Do you love your dishwasher?

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 08/03/2024 09:03

Ours has just broken, it trips the power whenever we try to start it. However it is old, some of the plate prongs have snapped off. Its a Bosch
I don't know how to choose a new one, the choice is overwhelming. So please tell me the good and bad points of your dishwasher, is the new cutlery shelf feature in some better than a basket? and anyone with a smart connectivity / voice control one, what is the point of this? Looking forward to an exciting dishwasher discussion 😀

Why would you even think that anyone cares remotely? Why did you even post anyway on a thread requesting recommendations for dishwashers to sanctimoniously inform the MN users that you don't use one?! Bizarre.

The only person "triggered" here is you!

The question was 'Do you love your dishwasher?' I answered no, I didn't use my dishwasher so I got rid of it. Sorry, are we only allowed to post on threads here if they align with others opinions?

I haven't called anyone any names based on their use of a dishwasher ducky. I am finding it rather entertaining

I did. I still thought I'd share that I didn't actually have one. You could have scrolled past. But nope.

IPMSL. My mother never had a dishwasher. I hope that helps.

This thread is useful to me as I'm looking for a reliable new one. Three DWs in three years so far. Bosch, Samsung, and now Infiniton. All rubbish, and a waste of precious resources. 😎

I love my very old Miele one. I really can’t remember when I got it but it had a10 year guarantee which ran out in the mist s of time. I have a bad back so the cutlery basket works for me as I carry it over to the drawer. I unload it fairly slowly after painkillers ave set in in the morning. On bad days it may take a long time but dirty dishes are sitting ing a sink near it. I cannot stand long enough to wash dishes .

CruelAndUnusualParenting · 11/03/2024 19:19

My Beko is high maintenance. I'm constantly having to unclog the filter and gunk builds up around the seal, which can cause it to leak, if I don't watch it.

Dbank · 11/03/2024 21:36

We've had several Bosch ones, which have been okay and tend to last 5 years. Bought a Miele much quieter and cleans better. I thought the cutlery rack would be a PITA, but it's much easier to empty and works better than a basket.

Yogatoga1 · 12/03/2024 09:42

Which Miele do people have? It it worth going 💸💸💸💸💸 or is there not much difference between models?

I’m finding very few shops have dishwashers on display now so struggling to get a grasp of the layouts and what might suit.

i had almost decided on a Bosch but am swayed toward Miele now.

i am going to blow the budget as I think the dishwasher is probably our most used appliance and it’s so frustrating when stuff doesn’t fit or come out clean.

UpsideLeft · 12/03/2024 10:05

I have a 17 year old Bosch still going strong so I'd happily replace it with another Bosch

I’m not a fan of cutlery trays. Takes longer to load, and I’m not sure if you can take it out at the end - with the basked you can just carry the whole thing over to the cutlery drawer to put away.

I would love a dishwasher that is good with washing cereal bowls, they always seem to come out dirtier than when they were out in in our house.

Yes this

UpsideLeft · 12/03/2024 10:08

Not the cereal bowl bit though

Lifebeganat50 · 12/03/2024 10:09

I’m very much feeling the love for my new Bosch….yes I know it’s only been a few days, but having previously always had Bosch, the “lower” brand of Hoover was a piece of shit! I’d forgotten what it’s like to have dishes come out sparkling and dry…you know, how they’re supposed to!

I’m just glad that I didn’t pay for the piece of shit that was the Hoover!

Oh and nice and quiet, not like a plane taking off!

Mine is a Zanussi now 12 years old. No complaints about it. My daughter has a Beko. I hate the cutlery box. Their cutlery is slightly chunky and the grid holes for the cutlery are various sizes. The knives and forks don’t fit in some holes. If the grandkids have started filling it and put the small spoons in the wide holes there’s no wide holes left for the chunky items and it all needs rearranged. I also find that some side plates don’t fit in their top shelf that fit in mine. First world problems, I know!

I think you can detach the cutlery grid so you have 4 or 6 baskets. Mix up the cutlery in each basket and it doesn’t stick together.

and while I don’t feel any strong love for my old dishwasher I wouldn’t live without one.

Ifailed · 12/03/2024 11:14

Which Miele do people have?

I have what was their basic model. Looking at their site I see they have ones which auto-dispense cleaner and doors that open once the cycle has ended to facilitate drying.

For me, I think the first is just another thing to go wrong and the 2nd could be potentially dangerous in a house with small kids.

MollyButton · 12/03/2024 11:51

I have a Bosch about 8 years old now, and it's much better than the Bosch it replaced. I would have got a Miele but couldn't justify the cost.
It has a cutlery tray which I like. Seems to clog less with grains of rice than my previous machines. The door also automatically opens at the end which I didn't realise for ages.
It doesn't seem too loud (I might have chosen it as it's quiet). And takes 3:45 on eco

MollyButton · 12/03/2024 11:51

Oh and the door only opens a crack and only when the temperature has dropped.

swimlyn · 12/03/2024 16:57

I feel that quality has hugely deteriorated in recent years, so when you’ve loved a 17 year old or 11 year old brand, you almost certainly won’t get anything like the same quality today. We loved Hotpoint appliances in the 70s. Our daughter’s experience of Hotpoint recently is diabolical.

DW engineers seem to confirm this problem, often with expletives. For my Samsung I googled part numbers from components left in the bin after two repairs (within 18 months of purchase) and found references for five or six other cheapo brands I wouldn’t dream of buying.

Dare I say the guts of the machines appear to be Chinese source? The wiring labels have unusual characters.

Browsing the shops it’s interesting that across the brands, some interiors are absolutely identical.

I’m now trying to source a brand that actually makes their own (with pride) as opposed to buying in foreign rubbish and simply badging it. From my research it appears that Electrolux and AEG do make their own.

Any info on that aspect gratefully received. :o)

I was like this but the trick to the cutlery trays is:

  • to load types of cutlery together in groups in the tray If you load all the forks side by side, then when it's done you just grab all the handles together and lift them out and put them straight into the drawer.

*load as you go during the day - so when you've used a teaspoon you are done with, put it in the tray. when you've finsihed with your lunch cutlery put it in the tray.

It doesn't really take that much longer to load once you get the hang of it and it is much quicker and safer to unload (no forks/knives sticking upwards).

I would recommend it and I speak as someone who kept the basket from the old dishwasher because I didn't like the look of the cutlery tray. Now I wouldn't go back.

Caveat my Miele is 9 years old last week (just found the guide and invoice)! It has a cutlery tray and the door opening thingy. It is a clean steel version and it remains easy to keep the front looking clean.

The door doesn't spring open. It slowly opens out on a latch(?) to about 5 degrees. You have to push the door back in to release it. We tend to just run a lengthy Eco wash so other speedier programs might be different.

The cutlery drawer has a middle bit that's a bit lower so you can pop fish slices and ladles in. We definitely put the cutlery into spoon/knife/fork zones, so we simply scoop up a handful and pop them in the cutlery drawer next to the dishwasher.

FWIW we've owned a Miele Twin Dos washing machine for a good few years, but gave up using the automatic dosing and pods after a couple of years. Supermarket/Eco brands were so much cheaper. We have cupboard space and it just seems easier to grab detergents etc and pour them in.

AEG, Zanuzzi, are both owned by Electrolux, and probably share designs and parts.
In my experience Miele is about the only brand still making quality appliances in volume. Out of the 5 appliances I have, only one has had an issue which Miele replaced FOC, within 24 hours, and it was four years old.

I hate dishwashers. Any that have been in residence when I've moved have been swiftly got rid of.

Ghastly things.

Any particular reason for the hate?

if you’ve removed them asap have you ever used one?
