Do you love your dishwasher?

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 08/03/2024 09:03

Ours has just broken, it trips the power whenever we try to start it. However it is old, some of the plate prongs have snapped off. Its a Bosch
I don't know how to choose a new one, the choice is overwhelming. So please tell me the good and bad points of your dishwasher, is the new cutlery shelf feature in some better than a basket? and anyone with a smart connectivity / voice control one, what is the point of this? Looking forward to an exciting dishwasher discussion 😀

Our Bosch takes 3 hours 45 (there is a quick 1 hour option). We put on at night or after breakfast so works for us.

Rileybb · 09/03/2024 08:17

Beko is shit.
Bosch is good.

Indeed.

I knew that when I had to replace a broken (and c.15 years old) Bosch dishwasher. But I was pretty skint at that moment in time, drowning in the fucking washing up and fell for the supposedly good reviews and general online astroturfing insisting that beko have come such a long way and are now great and cheap.

This dishwasher is not great. I wish I’d just chucked the extra £200 on a credit card and bought a decent dishwasher. Now I feel like I have to just live with my crap choice.

See, I disagree Grin.

I had a Bosch washing machine which was awful and I loathed and detested it. So when my last dishwasher died (AEG, prob coming up to 10 years old) there's no way I would replace it with a Bosch. I am boycotting Bosch for the rest of my life.

My Beko does the job perfectly and is totally silent except for a gentle beep when it's done. It was £359 and I've had it for more than 4 years now. What's not to like?

it's all snobbery

youngestisapsycho · 09/03/2024 16:12

We had a Beko for 9 years and it was great… then when we redid our small kitchen we got a slim beko which was also great. We have a Bosch now as all our kitchen appliances are Bosch and we didn’t pay for them 😆

ClutchingOurBananas · 09/03/2024 19:58

@LindorDoubleChoc do you want my beko dishwasher instead. It is objectively awful.

K0OLA1D · 09/03/2024 20:00

We had one in our kitchen when we moved in. Didn't even switch it on. We got rid and got an extra freezer

That's mad. I don't believe anyone would do that. The time saved by a dishwasher is exponential to the the number of people in the house - for some reason x2 people is not x2 people's washing up it's more like x 3 people.

This was a really stupid decision to replace a dishwasher with a second freezer. I think you are trying to wind us up.

I literally don't see the point in them at all. It take me a max of 15 mins (and that's Sunday dinner dishes) to wash up.

I aren't winding you up. No one in mine or dps close family has one. Freezer serves us much better. Why the feck would I lie about it??

I fucking love mine. Only got my first one about 4 years ago when I moved into this house. My parents never had one, so I’d never seen the need.

but it has changed my life. I am no longer washing up multiple times a day, and the skin on my hands is so much better. It also means I have hot water all the time, as I’m not emptying the tank washing up. It means I can keep the kitchen reasonably clean as dirty dishes go straight in the dishwasher, no pots waiting to be washed up or drying on the side. We no longer have the constant supply of damp tea towels needing washed.

they save a fortune in water and hot water.

i’d have said I don’t need one until I got one.

my mum still washes up by hand when she comes over and it pisses me off with cups in the sink, or drying on the side with 3 teaspoons. Which have needed a sink full of hot water, so I need to double the time the immersion is on for.

i wouldn’t wash my clothes by hand either.

How can it possibly take you 15 mins? what about stuff that is stuck on/burnt on from oven or stains?

If I am washing up I do one full pass with the suds, then one full pass to rinse.

Plus things like cups and glasses and forks and spoons that have touched peoples mouths particularly need to be very thoroughly scrubbed/washed.

Why the feck would I lie about it??
People do all the time on here as you must be aware to wind people up and provoke arguments about the most trivial things.

Each to their own I suppose but honestly I can't believe you didn't even test out the dishwasher if you had one in the house...

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 09/03/2024 23:00

Mine is a Siemens iq300, and I really like it. I've had it 5 years.

If there is anything stuck on, which there rarely is as I have really good non stick oven trays, they go in soak whilst we eat. One washes, one wipes and puts away.

We do 2 lots of dishes, sometimes 1 lot a day. In the evening. Its not always my job, the dc or dp do them more often than not.

We didn't try it, because we had tried one whilst on holiday for the first few days. And like I said, didn't see the point.

Belive me, don't believe me. No bother to me. I like my extra freezer space a whole lot more

Aphotoaday · 10/03/2024 03:15

Wouldn’t be without ours. Neff, cutlery tray, quiet, integrated with an icon and time display that projects onto the floor.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 10/03/2024 19:10

I know someone who put a new dishwasher in when the kitchen was replaced fairly recently because she might downsize in the next ten years and thought a new kitchen would help sell the house. But she and her partner, and sometimes one or more of their kids, don't use it. Utterly bonkers.

I've had a Beko fridge freezer, Beko washer and Beko dryer. They've all been awful, still have the dryer. I'm not a brand snob in any way, but have never had any luck with cheaper appliances.
My Mum was sold a Blomberg washer and dishwasher, the shop told her they were the posh end of the Beko brand. Both have been shocking, the dishwasher is rusty inside.

I can't believe that you are doing 2 lots of dishes a day by hand and you "don't see the point" of a dishwasher. The point is that it is quicker and as well it is more hygenic as it washes and rinses at a higher temperature than by hand and dries by air rather than a handled and used teatowel.

I might think this was just about rational if you were a single person living alone and would have to expend money to buy one. but a family with children AND you had one in the house that you had to CHOOSE to get rid of? it's just really stubbornly stupid. It's like refusing to use a washing machine because you know it's the devils work as opposed to the mangel.

Well I wouldn't be without one. You don't know what you're missing!! When my old one died, it was a total pain in the arse. I couldn't wait to get a new one. I will never, ever be without a dishwasher.

I also manage to have 2 freezers so that's not an issue.

K0OLA1D · 11/03/2024 13:08

We don't normally have enough to fill a dishwasher. It physically hurts me to bend down.

I don't see the point when it takes me/dc/dp mere minutes to wash, wipe and put away.

I honestly couldn't give a toss about the hygiene factor. People manage without boiling things that have seen your mouth.

I love how triggered everyone is getting though about me choosing not to have a dishwasher 😂

Beamur · 11/03/2024 13:14

Siemens here.
Better than my previous Bosch. New Bosch machines are far inferior to the ones 10+ years ago. Probably more efficient but much flimsier.
Has both a cutlery basket and a knife shelf. All pretty adjustable. Has a fancy blue light I quite like. Only downside is very small rinse aid reservoir.

JazzPigeon24 · 11/03/2024 13:22

I do. I actually love it. We got this one a few weeks ago and it's amazing how much more we can fit in it compared with the old one (can't remember what brand but not Bosch). The cutlery drawer is fab. Plus it dries everything, including all the kids plastic plates, bowls etc.

God no, not in the least bit "triggered"! We don't know you and couldn't care less about what you do. Just posted to say how crazy I think it is to not use a dishwasher and then instantly forgot about you until this thread came up again.

OK. Well I don't agree. I've been called 'stupid, crazy, bonkers' all for my choice to not have a dishwasher?

Bit strong for people who apparently 'don't care'

Why would you even think that anyone cares remotely? Why did you even post anyway on a thread requesting recommendations for dishwashers to sanctimoniously inform the MN users that you don't use one?! Bizarre.

The only person "triggered" here is you!
