Which activities make your heart sink?

TootTootPeanutbutter · 06/03/2024 15:37

Each to their own but which activities that your friends and family love are just not for you?

I’m genuinely pleased that others love it but I’m really not a fan of going for a walk unless there’s some other purpose e.g Exploring a city. I find it boring and difficult and often painful(Due to disabilities)

Also anything involving clubs or alcohol. I don’t drink and I have sensory issues so they’re too loud for me.

There are others but I want to hear what activities you dread.

TIA

Escape room, or anything with the word "team" in it!

God yes !! I get horrible and competitive in any team event and absolutely hate it. Brings out the worst in me

fetchacloth · 06/03/2024 19:12

Quiz nights !
So utterly boring and difficult to have conversations with people 🙄

chingaling · 06/03/2024 19:14

Another one for ten pin bowling.
Going for a walk.
Swimming in a public pool. (Love it on holiday)
Theme parks rides.
Anything that involves queuing.
Arcades.
Soft play.
Kids birthday parties (except my own)
Caravans.
Camping.
Networking.
Forced 'fun' at work.
Learning a new board/card game.

FreebieWallopFridge · 06/03/2024 19:14

Soft play

Games with adults (unless a bog standard board game, but even then….not top of my list)

Anything that would fall into the ‘enforced fun’ category, which typically includes team games, ice breakers, etc.

Wandering around random shops just for the sake of ‘shopping’ which doesn’t seem to ever involve buying anything

Tours of things where someone who works there imparts knowledge and takes you round like you’re on a school trip.

Fun runs

Assault courses

Anything that involves mud (I don’t care one bit about getting wet, but mud is a no; ditto for freezing cold weather)

FreebieWallopFridge · 06/03/2024 19:16

Oh god, camping - that can get to fuck

Wexone · 06/03/2024 19:17

Baby showers - just no
Forced work activities
pubs with no seats and really really loud music
anything to do with sport
BBQS - Ireland has an obsession with them (yet we have the worst weather for them )

FourLeggedBuckers · 06/03/2024 19:18

Spa days, massages, beauty treatments.

Anything involving loud night clubs or dancing, or where the primary aim is socialising / having a “nice chat”.

I like walking, activities, sports, pub quizzes, events themed around something educational, comedy - I like doing things, rather than just “being” in company.

Northernsouloldies · 06/03/2024 19:18

Company team building days with a load of cunts that you about tolerate in the workplace anything outwith can fuck right off

MissingMoominMamma · 06/03/2024 19:18

Parties. I hate small talk.

Clubs, unless it’s music from my heyday.

Shopping.

Runhomejack · 06/03/2024 19:25

So many of my preferred activities are listed on this thread multiple times, I hope the people I invite actually enjoy them! Going for a long, aimless walk followed by word games in a busy pub... anyone want to join?

bringmorewashing · 06/03/2024 19:27

Drinking games of any sort, cards against humanity, any sort of hen do/baby shower game. Just no!

Also karaoke and I refuse to go near an "escape room".

I swear I'm not a total misery. I love a lot of the things mentioned here especially barbecues and going 'out for drinks', love camping and walking (though prefer it to be in direction of a pub!)

MrsAvocet · 06/03/2024 19:35

More or less any kind of organised "fun" really. And any event where large numbers of people are eating. Buffets particularly repulse me.
Unfortunately I have an inescapable event shortly which will involve both being jolly by numbers and communal over indulgence. Yay...can't wait...

Book groups. (Being polite about other people's strange points of view!)

When I was asked to join a book club I said I only read non fiction (

TellySavalashairbrush · 06/03/2024 19:38

Crafting or having to listen to
people talk enthusiastically about crafting .

Buffets - usually organised in the office for someone’s birthday/leaving do.

theatre trips

UnravellingTheWorld · 06/03/2024 19:39

Bowling - a couple of friends from work and I used to go every Monday because it was cheap. I despise bowling; only went because of the socializing (I don't have a lot of friends). Was not sad when the event ceased!

Swimming. Can't hear a thing without my glasses (if you know, you know).

Online shopping. Let me loose in a massive shopping centre and I'm happy (as long as no one accompanies me)

Any social event involving alcohol - I'm not averse to drinking per se, but some women do get ridiculous.

I had no idea ice skating was so unpopular! I love it! Shooting over an ultra smooth surface, and then cross skating around the corner so you don't lose speed... it's the best! Wish I was better at it, but it's an expensive hobby. Roller blading is much cheaper, but in the UK it's difficult to find sufficient paths that are moderately skate-able. (I'm decidedly unathletic, but skating is literally the only sport I've ever been any good at)

Donthideyourlight · 06/03/2024 19:42

Mini golf
Go-ape
Climbing/bouldering
Water parks/theme parks
Obstacle course (this was a hen do activity once in donegal - not fun at all - the mud and rain 😩)
Getting drunk

Brendabigbaps · 06/03/2024 19:44

Golf

People who suggest pubs /bars when there aren’t enough seats.

Cotonsugar · 06/03/2024 19:45

JengaCupboard · 06/03/2024 16:22

Any sort of enforced 'fun'.. entry level would be board games, or worse, card games, just no.

Anything like Crazy Golf, hen-do activities like cocktail making classes/candle/overpriced useless cosmetic parties etc, or the thought of those 'escape room' type things.. awful (for me)

I can just about tolerate a pub quiz if I'm there by accident.

I don't mind the cinema if it's one of those lazy-boy chair places and it's something I really want to see..

God I sound miserable (I'm not!!) :)

Aka “organised fun” 😂

Oakbeam · 06/03/2024 19:47

Paddle boarding.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 06/03/2024 19:55

Pretty much all of the above, except:
Board games
Meals & drinks out
Walks
Quizzes

FourLeggedBuckers · 06/03/2024 19:57

I own horses, slithering around a muddy obstacle course is my main activity in life 😂

I don’t invite people to join me though!

😂 exactly! You might do it because you have to. You wouldn't make it into a competitive activity between a bunch of women who don't know each other and them expect them to go clubbing and then back to the hostel to share a dorm style room with...I mean unless you knew they liked those activities. It was a high risk strategy for sure. I still wonder what the MoH was thinking there tbh

coxesorangepippin · 06/03/2024 20:06

Shopping for more than an hour

Walking on canals

Crafting - scrapbooking is my worst nightmare

Any kind of interior decor - I just cannot connect with the information

Anon9898 · 06/03/2024 20:08

Clubbing. Never been a fan. In fact I am not a big people person in groups

I mean, I’d quite enjoy it as a competitive activity - I’ve been training for this for years, I’m pretty sure I’d do ok! - followed by a stiff drink and heading home for decontamination and flopping down in front of the tv (alone!). It’s the clubbing and dorm rooms that would put me off more than the mud!

But, in your circumstances, I can only imagine that the MoH really hated the bride!
