What’s your ‘bucket list’ destination… and how old are you?

I’ve always wanted to go to Japan and finally I am going! (Can’t believe it actually, tears were shed)

Joked to my DH I could ‘die happy’ after and he said I’ll just have to pick a new place. (I have a few in mind!)

Asked my mum what her bucket list place was and she said Paris, seems like one of the most achievable destinations from the UK (and I’m definitely going to book this a surprise for her after hearing this!)

Made me wonder about others and if this is an age thing - I guess people travel more now and distances are more achievable.

Where’s your bucket list destination?

Mine was the Trans Siberian express. Even though I have Russian relatives, don't think will be happening any time soon now.

Hoping to tick off the Faroes, Iceland, Denmark and Norway in the next few years tho. All places I've wanted to go for a while.

A luxury hut on stilts over crystal clear waters in the South Pacific (not Maldives!), with a plunge pool, steps into the sea, private deck with sun loungers and all the mod cons.

I'm fortunate to have done a lot of travelling, back packing and nicer quality, but I could never bring myself to spend THAT much money, and now I have DC I couldn't afford to.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 05/03/2024 23:08

I had wanted to go to Bhutan since I was in my early teens. I went last year at age 56, and now I want to go back again.

Sarvanga38 · 05/03/2024 23:08

M bucket lists were probably California and South Africa - both done, but will never get tired of finding other places to go!😆

MrsHughesPinny · 05/03/2024 23:09

New Zealand. I’d love to go but I don’t have much leave allowance and to be worth the huge amount of travel time you have to go for at least two weeks. One day…

ArsMamatoria · 05/03/2024 23:09

Clicked on this to say Japan. I'm very envious OP! Hope you have an absolutely amazing time!

Edited to say I'm in my mid forties.

Morocco. I want to do a few days in a city, a few days in the mountains and a few days on the coast. It was supposed to be our honeymoon 13 years ago but we never went because we were broke. One day.

Borneo to see the orangutans
Brazil for carnival

I’m 45.

Loved Japan, have an amazing trip OP. I went in the autumn and would love to go back during the cherry blossom season!

Japan is on our list. Almost planned to go there this summer, but DH gave up because of the cost of flights (a family of four). But I know it's achievable one day, like most of the places in our list.

The only place I want to go, but probably will never go is New Zealand. We'd go there for the nature, but it's too far and too much hassle with small children. When they grow up, we'd be too old to manage! (We are late 40s)

One place I always wanted to go since I was a little girl but never thought I could was Jerusalem. But I'm very proud that we made it happen before our first DC was born (during a relatively peaceful time in between the constant instabilities in that region). It's very humble experience and fulfilling, like dream cams true!

Oh, also in the list, Tahiti and Maldives - can never afford!!!

India but until their horrific situation around violence towards women is no longer an issue, I won't go. I'm nearly 50; I fear I'll never get there.

I know females who went and hired private drivers

I just don't know if I could??

Tootytoot78 · 05/03/2024 23:43

Did a road trip in the Deep South, Charleston, Savannah, Charlotte plus a lot of the lovely small towns.
Been a dream of mine for ever, and it was everything I hoped it would be. We were 65.

NZ and back to Sydney. Bestie lives in Cambridge NZ and Sydney was where I spent a few happy wild years 30 + years ago. Son in Vancouver so am going out there in July.
Son’s girlfriend parents live in Japan ….am not drawn there TBH !

Disneydatknee88 · 05/03/2024 23:56

Japan is also on my bucket list! I hope you have a lovely time. I'm 34. Also on my bucket list was texas. Which I went to on my honeymoon (not traditional I know). I'd always wanted to visit USA and texas was the most American place I could think of. We did texas state fair in dallas. Weird fried food. Everything just bigger and better than the UK. We did a lot of people watching. Walmart is something else! We went to all the chain restaurants we don't get over here but are referenced in TV (Cheesecake factory, olive garden etc). We had a great time!

Norway was my bucket list, a cruise to the fjords. I managed to do it last year for my 40th.

I cried with overwhelm many times that trip. I was so so happy.

New place is Lapland.

Charlie2121 · 06/03/2024 00:20

I travelled extensively in my 20’s and 30’s so have managed to tick off the majority of my bucket list.

I’ve visited over half the countries in the world but I still fancy going to the Falkland Islands and Antarctica. I’d also be keen to go to North Korea as I love visiting genuinely different places.
