I've towels we got as a house warming gift in 1999 and they're still going strong.

My parents have one that I was given when I was 10. It's 30 years old.

I've not read the whole thread but I'm pretty sure I've won.I've not read the whole thread but I'm pretty sure I've won.

If you read the whole thread, you'd know you haven't.

1970s later end.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/03/2024 22:44

Actually just inherited the contents of mum's cupboard so maybe there are older things in there.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 04/03/2024 22:48

I've got some fabulous beach towels that I bought in 1992 🤣

Onelifeonly · 04/03/2024 22:49

Can't say they're the oldest for sure, but the ones I can date are two beach towels bought for a holiday in 1994. Generally only use them on holidays, so they are in fairly good condition.

A peach and grey towel, probably early 80s, belonging to my dear late MIL. Still going strong, but for the sake of aesthetics confined to hair dying and dog towelling-off.

Charlingspont · 04/03/2024 23:04

I have one that I took to (boarding) school 45 years ago. It's perfectly fine.

TeabySea · 04/03/2024 23:11

I have one that's lost a lot of its pile, but it's still very absorbent and it's a large towel. I think I've had it since around 1985, when one of my parents worked in a hotel, and were upgrading stuff so it was going to be chucked out. When I moved out in the later 90s, I took it with me.

Littlefish · 04/03/2024 23:15

Pale blue bath sheet from 1987. It's got my name tape on from when I took it to university.

Cloudful · 04/03/2024 23:19

My oldest towel is 68 years old. It was a wedding present to my grandma and as was the thing back then it was kept for best and so never used. When I was a teenager I asked if I could have it. It’s a huge bath sheet that wraps round you properly and goes right down to my feet. It’s worse for wear now, the edges are frayed and DH keeps trying unsuccessfully to get rid of it but it’s like a comfort blanket and is my favourite towel.

I recently rediscovered a towel I'd brought home from a (one off) trip to Disneyland. My partner had moved to LA, I'd stayed in UK, we met up there (he booked it as a surprise). The trip was in 1994. I'd tucked the towel away as a keepsake & it is as good as new. We got back together after 20 years & had 7 happy years together. When I found the towel I wrapped myself up in it & had a few tears. He died 2 years ago next week.

We have a towel that DH brought with him from his mum's house, that his sister nicked from a hotel on a girls' holiday a few years before. It has the hotel name on it.

DH and I have been together 22 years so it's 25+ years old.

HearMeSnore · 05/03/2024 09:43

The oldest one that's still in use as a towel is a beach towel that I've had since 1988. I use it after swimming because it's extra long and wraps all the way round my middle-aged spread with room to spare.

The oldest one in the house is one of my mum's old bath towels from the early 80's. It's got green stripes - she bought it to go with the avocado bath suite. I use it to protect furniture/floors when decorating.

When I was a girl, the usual "minding" for a young couple about to be wed was either a pair of pillow slips or a pair of pit towels.

The toughest pit towels seem to be the original type - white with stripes - those from the 60s are more floral. I'm assuming that yours is one of the originals.

Yep!! Mine is white with green and brown strips. I think late 40's / early 50's!!

Approx 2005. I'm in awe of some of you!

mrsbyers · 05/03/2024 15:47

35 years old , my brother and his wife went on holiday one year and got me a beach towel as a gift - it was pretty obvious they had used it but it’s stayed with me and makes me smile

Katherineryan1986 · 05/03/2024 15:49

My daughter has one of those baby towels with the hood in the corner that was hers when she was born - so almost 30 years old! She still uses it as a hair towel when she washes her hair. She recently had a baby of her own and she was thrilled to be gifted a couple of new baby corner hood towels, but I told her they were for baby not her!

TallulahBetty · 05/03/2024 15:53

2002, a few I took to uni. Dunelm quality!

AddieLoggins2 · 05/03/2024 16:05

My mum bought 2 pink baby towels when I was born, almost 40 years ago. I still use them as hair towels daily (one for use and one for wash)

I've been using them my whole life. They're the only hair towels I can ever remember using - and there are photos of me wrapped up in them as a baby and toddler.

Racheltension1 · 05/03/2024 17:37

You mean 'Old Bleachy'? He ooooolllddd. He seen some shit.

louderthan · 05/03/2024 18:36

Probably 50 years?? Lovely white and green geometric 70s pattern. I've also got a Mickey Mouse towel that my parents found abandoned on a beach in the early 80s.

LightSpeeds · 05/03/2024 18:49

I've got a couple from 1985 (bought them from BHS when I left home). They're still useable.

NannyGythaOgg · 05/03/2024 20:15

One of mum's old ones. From 1960ish

A bit threadbare and no longer used as a body towel but still perfectly serviceable. So over 60 years old
