I've towels we got as a house warming gift in 1999 and they're still going strong.

Some of my towels are inherited from my late grandmother and are older than I am (late 40s)

muddyford · 04/03/2024 06:42

I have a towel my mother bought when I started sailing at 14. I'm 61.

Lifebeganat50 · 04/03/2024 06:43

A pair from British Home Stores when we bought our first house in 1996. Still in very regular use and perfect condition

RadioGaGaRadioGooGoo · 04/03/2024 06:45

My mum didn't pack a towel on holiday in 2001 so bought a new one in Salou, and still uses it today

AmazingLemonDrizzle · 04/03/2024 06:46

Our towels are all fairly old I think.

Those people replacing the all every few years - why?

I'm now wondering about getting my teens a nice towel each so they can have one they "remember" like some on here have! Where do people get towels? Supermarket?

mitogoshi · 04/03/2024 06:51

My beach towel was bought for me at 15, I'm 50

borntobequiet · 04/03/2024 06:56

A couple of large towels that belonged to my mother, sent from the USA in the sixties/seventies when the quality was far better there.
She didn’t use them much - “too good” - I use them for sunbathing.

borntobequiet · 04/03/2024 06:57

My Christie towels I bought in 2000 are still going strong and in very good condition, despite considerable use.

AmazingLemonDrizzle · 04/03/2024 06:58

Wow I've just gone down a towel rabbit hole.

My big ones it seems are beach towels.

There are bath towels and bath sheets and these are different sizes. Again different sizes to beach towels.

I never knew!

SweetPeaPatch · 04/03/2024 07:06

My oldest one is about 35 years old, mine from when I was little. Still in regular use and only a few little thin holey bits. I have another blue and green one with fish on which is a bit younger, 30 years old maybe, which is falling apart. The hems unraveled, then fell off, and now it frays. I'm not supposed to use it...but I still do.

Glad it's not just me that's sentimental about towels. DH thinks it's odd.

Oganesson118 · 04/03/2024 07:11

I suspect around 2012 when DH and I both relocated (separately but met shortly afterwards)

Winnading · 04/03/2024 07:15

Still own and in decent nick, a towel from 1990. Bought from debenhams.

Only recently got rid of a ancient Christys towel from circa 1980 or earlier.
I've bought other Christy towels and they havent lasted as long.

I read on a blog that towels should be replaced every 4 or 5 years. Phshaw

BaleOfHay · 04/03/2024 07:21

DH's grandfather's school towel, complete with name tape. Relegated to general mopping towel now but must be from the 1930s.

My oldest towel is a hand towel with Hers embroidered on it. Given to me as a pair, the other had Him in it, when I became engaged in 1966.

I ditched the Him - both towel and bloke!

I now use the towel only when colouring my hair so it's a bit naff!

Tisfortired · 04/03/2024 07:24

My oldest I got from a catalogue shop in 2004 so 20 years? Got it for a holiday to Bulgaria. It’s a beach towel but thick do it gets daily use and hasn’t aged at all really!

sleekcat · 04/03/2024 07:25

Until recently I had a couple that I brought with me when I moved in 97. They were already a few years old then!

UtterlyOtterly · 04/03/2024 07:26

I regularly use a towel I took to university in 1982.

Our garden toilet hand towels are a pair my parents were given as as a wedding present in 1957.

On a visit to DD recently I was amused to see her cartoon character primary school swimming towel from about 2003 in their otherwise very tasteful bathroom.

Globules · 04/03/2024 07:27
  1. It was my school towel. It still has my name tag sewn on it. ❤️
artfuldodgerjack · 04/03/2024 07:32

Still got my mum's old swimming towel with her name tag stitched on. It must be from 1965... so nearly 60 years old.

Theredjellybean · 04/03/2024 07:34

One with my name tape sewn on it from when I started boarding school on 1981...

Hoglet70 · 04/03/2024 07:34

I have some hand towels that belonged to my parents. Potentially from late 60s as I always remember them being there.

Willmafrockfit · 04/03/2024 07:35

I have a couple of wedding present towels from 1995, they have gone a bit scratchy but I use them as hand towels. I also have but don't use a few tea towels that were my late mils they look a bit 70s.

just remembered I kept my dc baby towels from the 90s

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/03/2024 07:37

I've had my swimming towel since I was at school, so it dates to at least the mid 80s.
