What day do you normally do your grocery shopping and why?

Just interested - I am a terrible housekeeper / meal planner.

I normally shop on a Wednesday as that's my least busy day. Wondering if I'm missing a trick by not doing a 'better' day. I could theoretically do any day if it was a delivery or click and collect

Any day as I get either a mid week or Saturday main shop delivered. So it’s always just to pick up the extras. Before that it was Saturdays.

Honestly try home delivery. I’ve never looked back and my DM who lives nearby is converted to - she uses two supermarkets on diff days.

Marmite27 · 02/03/2024 09:01

Friday, because I finish work at 11am.

I only do alternate weeks though, DH goes Thursday night after he’s been to the gym.

Mushroomwithaview · 02/03/2024 09:03

Sunday because I don't have a spare moment the rest of the week.

Chanxex · 02/03/2024 09:04

Friday mornings. I don’t work fridays

I aim to go on a Friday so that we're fully stocked for the weekend and week ahead, plus it's my day off so can go while shops are a bit quieter. If I don't get it done then it's either a Saturday morning or Sunday or we never quite get round to doing a "proper" shop and just get fresh stuff every few days.

Beezknees · 02/03/2024 09:05

I normally go most days. I live a 5 minute walk from an Asda superstore and I don't own a car so have to carry the bags home, it suits me to go little and often

I have home delivery on Fri as soon as I finish work (WFH on a Fri). It means doing the online shop on a Thurs night which is quite a busy evening for us but I like having the shop come on a Fri ready for the weekend.

idontlikealdi · 02/03/2024 09:06

Delivery on Sunday morning. That way I know we have enough for packed lunch and stays in date for the week.

Donthideyourlight · 02/03/2024 09:06

Thank you. It seems as if there is no objectively better day for it, so I'll just keep doing it when I'm free.

I will start booking a regular weekly delivery though, as I tend to forget things in the shops. '

Im honestly not a disorganised person at work I swear! It's just this sort of thing I am not great at.

The house is functioning and everyone is fed and clean, but I'm forever doing top up shops and I think it's costing us ££££

If I have a day off in the week then that's the day.
I find it I go after work shelves can be empty and on a weekend it's that plus the whole family outings taking over the shop!

squashyhat · 02/03/2024 09:07

Thursday. Stops me buying wine too early in the week.

Watchthedoormat · 02/03/2024 09:07

Friday we pick up click and collect.
Partner finishes work early on a Friday so can pick it up and put away before kids arrive home from school.
I like a Friday as then we have all new stuff in for over the weekend and DC aren't moaning that there is nothing in to eat ( they start that on a Tuesday/Wednesday😁)

cleaningandbathing · 02/03/2024 09:08

Tesco delivery every Saturday.

Cheaper than driving and buying myself as we live semi rurally.

Our shopping is pretty much the same each week so it takes less than 5 minutes online.

DelilahBucket · 02/03/2024 09:08

Home delivery usually on a Friday night so we have everything in for the weekend. We've been out on a Friday night quite a bit recently so it's been coming on a Saturday at various times depending on what we're doing. I'm waiting for it now.

stargazer02 · 02/03/2024 09:09

My usual supermarket is pretty picked over and bare come Saturday afternoon so I avoid then. I get a delivery on a Sunday afternoon/evening and Wednesday as two medium shops means I don't need to nip in for a top up shop. I'm best keeping out!

theduchessofspork · 02/03/2024 09:10

Have been so over busy all systems have gone to pot, but usually

Do the order on a Thursday evening to be delivered on Sat morning.

I do the next week’s order at the same time, and then just edit on the Thursday

Unless you actively enjoy it I think physically going to the shop is pretty bonkers

Bluevelvetsofa · 02/03/2024 09:11

Midweek usually, when it’s a bit quieter hopefully. Aldi don’t do deliveries and the nearest doesn’t do click and collect.

GenghisCalm · 02/03/2024 09:13

I have two medium deliveries one on Tuesday and Friday mornings between 7 and 8 am.

I found that fruit and vegetables were going mouldy and not lasting a week now we can eat them and not throw them away.

Nohousemove · 02/03/2024 09:15

I don’t think there is a best day. Just watch ever works for you. I currently get Tesco delivery on a Monday and I pop to Aldi later in the week to buy things which are cheaper there and top up on berries.

Donthideyourlight · 02/03/2024 09:16

Oh some good points re morning having more stuff! Might get a delivery for Saturday mornings then.

Also more people in the house over the weekend so better to have the most food in then I suppose. I also could get stuff to catch cook on Sunday afternoons which is another quiet point in my week but the shops are often closed / about to close by the time I get round to it.

Tuesday - but I'm retired and the stores are much quieter.

Also, not a bad day for bargains.😁

shouldbesleepingnotscrolling · 02/03/2024 09:17

We have two home deliveries - Sunday night which sorts us out for all the weekday meals and lunchboxes then one Thursday night for weekend food. It means I only have to plan for a 4 days ahead at a time which I prefer.

bingoringo4 · 02/03/2024 09:18

Fridays because that when I replenish my purse with the weeks budget.

Stressybetty · 02/03/2024 09:18

Thursday normally or Friday as Lidl offers refresh every Thursday at our store and more stuff is in stock.

Meadowfinch · 02/03/2024 09:19

About now. It's the only day I get time.
