Just announced on the BBC.
Very sad to hear this news

OP posts:

I'm saddened by this news, more so than I'd expect. They had such a solid bond of friendship, it was refreshing to see. They both appear to be genuine nice guys. Many below the line comments under the article in the Guardian about Dave's death, not one bad word about him. So unusual in these days when we're encouraged to hate one another. RIP Dave and thanks for all the decent telly.

AuntieStella · 29/02/2024 20:09

I found out only today about him being a make-up artist.

So not only could he cook, he could also tart you up for a night out (or perhaps turn you in to a monster for a Doctor Who convention).

They often have Hairy Biker re-runs on the Cookery Channel and Dave Ja Vu.

I hadn't seen any of the new series - are they on catch up? I really liked how they would showcase small producers when on their travels

I'd thought he was on the mend, as he was back on the box. Si made it sound like the making of the current series was huge fun. Glad he had that final hurrah

exiledfromcornwall · 29/02/2024 21:00

I am so upset by this news. When I saw that he was in a new series I thought he must be on the mend, and now this. Heartbreaking. RIP to a lovely, genuine, effortlessly funny guy.

Wolfiefan · 29/02/2024 21:04

So very sad. I had watched the latest series and really really hoped he was on the road to recovery.

PollyOrange · 29/02/2024 21:13

I've cried about this today never met him but watched everything he and Si did and my mum and sister and I all loved them. We don't often agree but all loved them.
I made their chicken and ham pie recently to rave reviews. Tasty and unpretentious. Just like them. Lovely lovely bloke

Hedjwitch · 29/02/2024 21:13

I lost my best friend to cancer. She was 58.
My heart goes out to Si.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 29/02/2024 22:14

Absolutely gutted to hear this today. Loved the Hairy Bikers, followed them for years. Such genuinely lovely boys and such fab cooks. Have made many of their recipes over the years. Feel so sorry for his family but especially for Si, he must be bereft. What he said in his statement made me howl. ‘My best friend has gone on a journey that for now, I can’t follow.’ 😢

Ride in peace Dave. You will be so missed by so many.

Dustyblue · 01/03/2024 03:49

I adore their show, it's one of my comforts when I'm feeling shitty. I hope the last shows are available here in Australia at some point.

Can't remember when I last cried over the death of someone I've never met, but here we are. RIP darling man.

Taytocrisps · 01/03/2024 06:36

I didn't recognize the name but then I realized he was one of the Hairy Bikers. Sad news. I haven't watched the show for a long time but I enjoyed it back in the day and their friendship was obviously what made the show such a success. They were two down to earth blokes who loved motor bikes and cooking. Condolences to his family and friends end especially to Si.

Thecatisboss · 01/03/2024 06:55

Both me and DH were very sad to hear he's died. Just watched the latest episode of the show on Wednesday and said how great it was and I thought he must be recovering to have recorded it.

coxesorangepippin · 29/02/2024 14:28

Very sad.

Loved the Yorkshire humour and approach in their shows

He was proudly from Barrow-in-Furness, not Yorkshire.
Sorry to correct you but honour bound!

IpanemaCaipirinha · 02/03/2024 12:05

I’ve just made one of their soups for lunch and ordered the HB veggie feast book. Still sadSad

LIZS · 02/03/2024 12:25

There is a new book due out on 25th April. Sad wonder if there was any filming made around it.

LaChienneDesFromages · 02/03/2024 12:35

Such sad news. Both Dave and Si come across in their books and TV shows as warm, funny and talented men. Have a rare talent of appealing to all generations and Dave will be very sadly missed by many. I read Si’s statement yesterday and it was so touching.

LIZS · 19/03/2024 19:52

Anyone watching the last episode? Dave seems to have a surge of energy. Referred to as the journey’s end and feels like a swansong though.

I am. Already in bits :(

LibbyLemoncake · 19/03/2024 19:57

I am too, he seems so full of life still. So unfair.

LIZS · 19/03/2024 19:59

The end piece to camera Sad

Vinorosso74 · 19/03/2024 20:36

There were tears here. It looked like he really enjoyed being out and about with Kingy again.
So sad and yes, so unfair.

WilloTheWispy · 19/03/2024 20:57

Yes, I watched it, I was in tears too.
It was a lovely fitting tribute to Dave, and his relationship with Si.

Whatsthesecret · 19/03/2024 21:04

I hope the BBC does a proper tribute to him. He deserves it.

Itscrashedagain · 19/03/2024 21:07

I'm saving it until the weekend, it's on Saturday lunchtimes too. I'll be in bits.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 19/03/2024 22:29

It was lovely. I was talking to a friend about it and she says they knew he didn’t have long, from what they were saying. I’m not sure, Dave occasionally made reference to looking forward to the future. I just think they were so glad to be out on the road together again and looking forward to it continuing. 😢

almostthere75 · 21/03/2024 22:20

Oooow why why why? It's so sad.
I watched the last episode tonight. Loved the series.

Alltheyearround · 22/03/2024 14:56

Not watched yet but I will.

He was one of the good guys. Saw Si last night in a clip, he was just lost for words, which says more than a thousand words. Testament to a deep friendship.
Heard someone say that grief is love that has nowhere to go, and I can see that.
