Just announced on the BBC.
Very sad to hear this news

Ah no so sad I really hoped he’d turned a corner. I enjoyed their cooking and travel adventures together.

TheBayLady · 29/02/2024 12:07

Their friendship was the reason we all loved them, that and their passion for good food, our farmers and growers and our countryside. The pair have been through so much together and Si must be devastated today. So glad they had one last adventure together after Dave's cancer diagnosis. Heartbreaking.

Whatsthesecret · 29/02/2024 12:13

This is one of the very few celebrity deaths that has ever really hit me. He seemed like such a wonderful, kind and generous soul. Such a loss to his family and to Si. A loss for broadcasting and food too.

BestIsWest · 29/02/2024 12:16

I am sad to hear this. They seemed to have such a great relationship with each other. Always fun to watch.

HemlockSoup · 29/02/2024 12:16

Ah that is sad news. He had such a lovely warm energy. Felt genuine.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 29/02/2024 12:18

Dave seemed like a really lovely bloke. Lots of love to his family and friends.

BIossomtoes · 29/02/2024 12:20

He was a sweetheart. Poor Si, it’s really tough losing a close friend.

viques · 29/02/2024 12:20

Oh that is sad. You always hope someone will beat a bastard cancer diagnosis, and I really thought he had managed to do it, although he looked very frail the last time I caught one of the HB episodes.

RIP Dave.

OolongTeaDrinker · 29/02/2024 12:21

So sad - I really thought he was on the mend. I've loved watching The Hairy Bikers over the years, my favourite was their far eastern adventures. RIP and condolences to all who loved him.

SisterhoodNotCisterhood · 29/02/2024 12:25

Genuinely tearful hearing the news today. He had such a warm, lovable, kind personality. Such a passion for food and enjoying life.

herewegoroundthebastardbush · 29/02/2024 12:31

So rare these days for a celebrity to be just so loveable and joyful and unpretentious. I love them as a duo, and it's been so nice especially in recent series to see two men be so openly affectionate and fond to each other without any macho posturing. I am not usually bothered by celeb deaths - why would I be, I don't know them, it's not my grief - but I am very sorry for Si and his family, I can only imagine that it will be a huge loss even though they knew it was coming. But he lived a good life doing what he loved with people he loved and died surrounded by them - we should all hope for as much.

Sad

This news has really upset me. Dave seemed like such a genuine, lovely bloke. It was wonderful what he said about his wife and step children....that his biggest regret had been not having children and then suddenly he was lucky enough to find a family 😢.

Si King's statement was beautiful. You can tell they had such a special friendship.

I'm absolutely gutted. Rest easy Dave.

Oh no! I saw their Christmas special and latest series and thought he'd turned a corner for the better. I was so pleased for him.

How sad.

I was too. Maybe though, it was an infection or something that got him in the end, poor guy. We don't know. Immune systems can be compromised. My uncle has cancer and picked up an infection when going for his radiotherapy. He was rushed in amid the fear of sepsis. Luckily it wasn't, but it was scary and he was very poorly. He is back having his treatment now. I'm so very sad about this. He was a super guy.

We were going to see the Hairy Bikers later this year at the Yorkshire Dales Food and Drink Festival. I wonder if Si will do it on his own? Si will be absolutely heartbroken.

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 29/02/2024 12:44

Such sad news. What a lovely man.

Hadjab · 29/02/2024 12:53

Heartbreaking.

I loved the way he would call Simon King 'Kingy'

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 29/02/2024 12:55

So sad. I too thought he was doing better.

I liked the warm camaraderie he and Si had.

SingingSands · 29/02/2024 12:56

Oh Dave, what a lovely man. Poor Kingy, such a touching statement.

I have so many places "pinned" on Google Maps because of their show - they really were fantastic together and showcased some beautiful areas and producers in the UK.

Rest in peace Dave

almostthere75 · 29/02/2024 13:12

Oh noooo this is news I don't want to believe.

Most celebrity cooking shows grate on me, but theirs was so easy to watch and I always thought what a good time the crew must have with them.

A lovely voice, gentle , a proper gentleman. 🩶

VerbenaGirl · 29/02/2024 13:29

So sad. My DD was a huge fan of the Hairy Bikers and she just told me and had a little cry.

FootOnTheGas · 29/02/2024 13:31

God bless him, and his family.
He fought a good fight and will be very much missed.

Topseyt123 · 29/02/2024 13:33

I'm very saddened to hear this. RIP Dave.

The Hairy Bikers were great together.

NeedWineNow · 29/02/2024 13:35

Such sad news - we were just watching on the lunchtime news. He came across as a really kind, friendly and enthusiastic man. A lovely tribute from Si King, he will be devastated. Condolences to all his friends and family. RIP Dave.

maddiemookins16mum · 29/02/2024 13:50

How sad, such a decent chap.

Vinorosso74 · 29/02/2024 14:01

Very sad news. He always seemed such a lovely man, as does Si.
I enjoy watching their TV shows because of their enthusiasm and their friendship.
