I'm flying over from Belfast for the night on 8 March to see my son who is in first year at John Moore's university.

I want to take him for a slap up meal on the Friday night and would like to have it booked in advance. I'm looking for recommendations for decent mid range restaurants that do (in order of preference):
Italian
Roast dinners
Mexican
Steakhouse
Indian

And my budget is about £100 for the two of including a couple of drinks with the meal.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. Someone had recommended Buyers Club and Bacaro Salthouse, so don't know if either of those are good, they look very nice though.

My son mentioned a place called Gaucho Steakhouse but it looked really expensive, some of the steak dinners £40 plus quid before you even order your sides.

@RunsLikeaLittleFatDuck aw thank you! That's a great list of pubs to keep us going for the night, I think I'm gonna need my hangover sachets for Saturday morning! 😅

Heya! There’s a nice cafe by John Lewis called the Vibe Cafe – their food is really nice, and it’s a nice place to sit and relax :)

You could also check out the Egg Cafe, just iff Bold Street. It’s high up on the 3rd or 4th floor and can provide a nice view out when the sun comes through.

Both have an emphasis on fresh, healthy ingredients and do a nice cake and coffee :)

clothearedpotatohead · 08/03/2024 13:53

(John Lewis is next to Liverpool One, Egg Cafe is about halfway up Bold Street on a side road towards Lime St)

Lilifer · 08/03/2024 13:58

@clothearedpotatohead sounds just perfect thank you 🙏 😍

Rococo on Lord St is gorgeous for coffee and cake. It’s upstairs between the EE shop and Thomas Cook.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 08/03/2024 14:01

Hanover Street Social is brilliant and very central.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 08/03/2024 14:03

Gaucho will be VERY expensive once you've ordered sides and drinks etc. It's nice but there are equally good places you can go for much less.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 08/03/2024 14:04

Where are you staying? If you are in the Premier Inn at Liverpool One then Hanover Street social is literally 2 mins down the same road.

This is such a lovely thread. Liverpool has the nicest people. Closely followed by Swansea.

Have a great weekend OP.

Coffee and cake places
Tarleton Street off Church Street (the main drag through town)
Cake & Wake very friendly nice relaxed atmosphere.
Walk down to the end of the street and there's a huge Italian coffee and cake shop, they also sell gelatos
You'll be spoilt for choice.

Hi all you lovely Liverpudlians
I'm sitting at John Lennon Airport after the most wonderful two days (one night) in your beautiful and friendly city! Thank you for all the recommendations and suggestions on foot of which we enjoyed the most wonderful food and hospitality from:
Maggie Mays for brunch
The Egg for coffee and cake
The Flute for Pre dins drinks
The Italian Club for dinner
Brass Monkey and holiday Inn Bar for after dinner drinks
Moose cafe for brunch today
The Vines bar for pre airport drinks

From start to finish we enjoyed lovely food and drinks and such a great welcome from everyone we met.

Also Holiday Inn at Lime st was a great place to stay, massive room with two double beds, comfy, clean and quiet and would definitely stay there again.

Looking forward to my next visit to Liverpool already 🙌🏻🤗

Hello all you lovely Liverpool mumsnetters 🥰
Following from my thread last March I'm pleased to say that I'm returning to your lovely city to visit my second son who's now in his first term at Liverpool John Moore's. Heading over next Friday morning just for one night, will be staying near Lime st station as my lad is housed in Grand Central.

Got so many great recommendations for the last time for restaurants cafes etc I don't think i need any more but just wanted to pop by this thread to say hello and can't wait to hit your fab town again next weekend 🙌🏻

Ah my middle boy was in Grand Central for the past two years, even though we only live 3 miles out of town he wanted to live out. He's in Germany this year though 😞
Enjoy your visit next week xx

This place was recommended when I first moved here and it's definitely a favourite. Everyone I've taken has loved it:

theitalianclubfish.com/

I'm veggie and they cater for me no problem.

There's this place as well which is part of the same group but I've not actually been although I imagine it's as good and probably has more meat options:

Cowshed is also very good for steak but small so you will need to book

Seconded!
