I'm flying over from Belfast for the night on 8 March to see my son who is in first year at John Moore's university.

I want to take him for a slap up meal on the Friday night and would like to have it booked in advance. I'm looking for recommendations for decent mid range restaurants that do (in order of preference):
Italian
Roast dinners
Mexican
Steakhouse
Indian

And my budget is about £100 for the two of including a couple of drinks with the meal.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. Someone had recommended Buyers Club and Bacaro Salthouse, so don't know if either of those are good, they look very nice though.

My son mentioned a place called Gaucho Steakhouse but it looked really expensive, some of the steak dinners £40 plus quid before you even order your sides.

Another vote for mowgli, but also love Rudy's for the most amazing pizza. Either branch!

Rudy’s is nice, agree!

Please do not waste your time and £sd on any of the a/mentioned fly by nights - stay out of Liverpool city centre and g to Delifonseca - you won’t be disappointed I can assure you - There’s also a shop/deli where you could buy a some treats for yourself and son - Have a lovely time - but do tog up as it’s going to be a bit chilly 🥶👍☘️🕊️

I eat at delifonseca fairly regularly as it's walking distance from my office. It's nice enough but nothing stand out. Nowhere to grab a drink unless you wander along to the Baltic fleet

Hanover street social has lovely food. Central and not too expensive

gocompare · 29/02/2024 11:37

Facenda.

You get about 15 different meats and your sides. Hot sides and cold sides.

The little cheese breads in there are lovely and I eat too many everytime I go

It's my fave.

I'm going this weekend at some point.

gocompare · 29/02/2024 11:40

Sapporo is a nice place aswell but not on your list of food type.

They cook In front of you and the chef puts oil on the cooking plate to make a big wall of flame for a few seconds.

It's nice in there too.

They do a nice blossom tea also.

This fella on Instagram does really good reviews of food. Some take out, some restaurants.

Thanks all again for all your help and input.

One more question is there an easy and cheap way to get into city centre (lime street) from airport? I'll be arriving around 9.15am.

It looks like there's a bus service but it takes 40mins and it's saying taxis are approx £25, are there any other options trains etc?

You could ring Village Cabs and ask them for a quote for a cab to Lime Street, generally found them very competitive.

winning2024 · 04/03/2024 10:52

You can get the bus (or a taxi) to Liverpool South parkway train station - would not take long then around 10 mins on the train into lime street. It depends on what time you would get the bus then make a connecting train. Bus would be cheapest option though.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/03/2024 14:39

Or get the bus to Cressington station and get the train from there. The bus drops you at the end of the road where the station is.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/03/2024 14:39

Although by the time you've waited for a train, you might as well stay on the bus.

The 500 bus is quicker into town from the airport as it's only got a couple of stops.

Italian - Villa Romana or Amalia
Roast dinners - Albert's Schloss / Albert's Schenke are both amazing but definitely need to book.
Mexican - La Parrilla (not at all fancy but lovely food!)
Steakhouse - Hawksmoor or Churrasco (recently had a big birthday bash at the latter and it was amazing. They do early evening offers too which are outstanding value)
Indian - the best Indian restaurants I've been to have been in the suburbs really - I do like Mowgli in town but it's not my favourite Indian.

Hope you enjoy wherever you go x

I don't like Delifonseca, foods always been a bit underwhelming. The bakery mentioned above is the Wild Loaf and is excellent, I used to work across the road from there.

Fazenda is great but you do have to eat alot to get your monies worth now, it used to be less than £30 a person, now it's something like £49!

It’s quite a small airport so shouldn’t be too difficult to find. I think it might be just outside the front.

I really love Elif, the original Lark Lane venue, but there is one on the Childwall Fiveways and one on Bold St in town. Amazing Turkish bbq. The spiced chicken wings were delicious.

hellsbells99 · 04/03/2024 19:35

Leaf on Bold Street is nice for brunch
