If you could only save one, and the other would disappear overnight...

Marks and Spencer or Waitrose/John Lewis?

Save M&S as it’s a long drive to JL for me.

Janetime · 26/02/2024 08:46

Save John Lewis.

anythinginapinch · 26/02/2024 08:47

JL. Customer service

Westfacing · 26/02/2024 08:48

I love both but afraid M&S would have to take the hit!

MarnieMarnie · 26/02/2024 08:58

Waitrose/jl. The food quality of m&s is shite these days.

goodnessmeits2024 · 26/02/2024 08:58

I'd save Waitrose every time, it's a balanced mix of good quality ingredients.

M&S is above average certainly, but Waitrose has the a better choice and variety of quality ingredients.

I also really like Waitrose' Essential range. Inexpensive but good.

MermaidEyes · 26/02/2024 09:01

I don't shop in any so it wouldn't make much difference to me, I don't even live anywhere near a Waitrose or John Lewis. Maybe that means I'm not middle class 😆

BrambleJamandCustard · 26/02/2024 09:04

Geographically, I’d save M&S over W/JS as it’s too far for me to get to a Waitrose. If I was more city/town based then it would be the other way around

SomersetTart · 26/02/2024 09:06

JohnLewis/Waitrose. M&S was only ever about pants and socks for me and I can get them in Sainsbury's now.

However, I'm working class so my opinion might not count. Perhaps a real middle class person wouldn't stoop to Sainsbury's pants.

TheDowagerDoughnut · 26/02/2024 09:07

I would save JL/Waitrose without hesitation

3peassuit · 26/02/2024 09:07

M and S would have to go but it’s a tough call.

Mazuslongtoenail · 26/02/2024 09:08

M&S or the social media outcry about no more Percy Pigs would be unbearable.

mondaytosunday · 26/02/2024 09:11

I'd save Waitrose, even though I shop non food at M&S more as it's closer. But only food shop there if I happen to be in it, but there's a standalone Waitrose nearby I shop at (though Tesco is my main one)
But I'd prefer to keep JL over non food M&S.

AsTheyPulledYouOutOfTheOxygenTent · 26/02/2024 09:13

Don't make me choooooooossse!

CheerfulBardo · 26/02/2024 09:18

I’m a prole, but no one has ever apparently noted my non-MC credentials on my Sparks or Waitrose cards. I would have saved Waitrose/JL, but where I live no doesn’t have either, so M and S. primarily for their vegetarian cola caterpillars.

SirChenjins · 26/02/2024 09:19

M&S on balance. I’d miss their petite range and all the staples - inc Percy Pigs and his pals of course - and M&S is more widely available.

FinsburyCircus · 26/02/2024 09:38

I'd save M&S all the way, but suspected most of MN would go for Waitrose 😄sometimes sounds like their entire marketing team are active on here!

OP posts:
feathermucker · 26/02/2024 09:41

Is it only the middle classes who shop at either?

I'd save M&S

strugglingnd · 26/02/2024 09:43

Err why are you only asking the MC opinions 🤔?

beguilingeyes · 26/02/2024 09:50

M&S all day long. Knickers and food.

MaloneMeadow · 26/02/2024 09:51

M&S!

Us poor things in Northern Ireland have to survive without Waitrose and John Lewis!

treacledan71 · 26/02/2024 09:55

I just cant get my breath with the title of your thread. Why couldn't you just say which one would keep?Do you think us working class phelps don't use M&S or do you look down on us?

yoshiblue · 26/02/2024 09:57

M&S without a doubt. JL customer service is shit these days, I'm don't see what they offer anymore?

No Waitrose near me and I'm an Ocado shopper, so I like M&S food.

LadyKenya · 26/02/2024 10:01

I would definitely keep M&S. I am not middle class, and do not see what that would have to do with my shopping thereHmm

Lorrymum · 26/02/2024 10:05

M&S everytime. Definitely not middle class.
