Putting washing on the line in the sun

I apologise if this is a niche pleasure - but does anyone else get a huge pleasure from seeing big sheets on the washing line in the sun?

Maybe it's a childhood thing.

I love it, but miss my lines full of tiny babygrows and terry nappies.

Roselilly36 · 23/02/2024 20:20

Love washing on the line, smells so fresh.

crew2022 · 23/02/2024 20:21

I love it too. Even today it was cold but they were almost dry and I just put them in the dryer for twenty minutes. Saves money and so much fresher.

christmascactus22 · 23/02/2024 20:24

I love it, but it will be a few weeks before it is warm enough to do that here. I'm a bit jealous of people who have daffodils in bloom as we still have snowdrops.

Savemykitchen · 23/02/2024 20:25

I somehow forgot and recently rediscovered the whole sun bleaching out bad stains on line dried clothing. IMMENSELY satisfying. 10/10 would highly recommend.

hellomi · 23/02/2024 20:30

One of my favourite things.

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 23/02/2024 20:32

Totally agree op!

i hang out all year round when not raining… “great drying day” is one of my most overused expressions!

my fave thing is washing bedsheets, lime drying (finishing off in the dryer if needed) and putting back on the bed the same day. They smell amazing 😊

Manzana · 23/02/2024 20:32

yes, and getting into a bed made with sun dried sheets

Jojoanna · 23/02/2024 20:59

One of my favourite things ,, hanging the washing out early

RampantIvy · 23/02/2024 21:00

Don't you just hate it when the summer haters post about how much they love the rain?

I have a load done and a load on now so it’s ready to go out early 😂

Decafflatteplease · 23/02/2024 21:51

I've found my people 🥰

One of lifes simple pleasures!

We have 2 washing lines as it's a large garden and love seeing things flapping about on the line. Especially liked a row of cloth nappies when DC were younger.

The weather app says zero percent chance of rain here tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to getting all the school uniform washed and on the line in the morning!

BigBundleOfFluff · 23/02/2024 21:52

Love it. Last weekend was the first weekend in months for me. I felt very competent.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 23/02/2024 22:02

Nope, love the smell of radiator/tumble dried clothes.

When the kids come in from playing out and smell of 'outside'... No, that is not for me 🙊

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 23/02/2024 22:03

I do dry clothes outside whenever I can but I do not like the smell!

Lifebeganat50 · 23/02/2024 22:04

@Decafflatteplease I also have a line in a separate part of the garden to catch the lower sun in the winter…the previous owner of my house who put it there was clearly a woman after my own heart 😂

RampantIvy · 23/02/2024 22:12

Our garden doesn't get any sun in winter. However, I have checked the weather and it looks like I will be able to line dry over the next few days - yay!

IloveAslan · 23/02/2024 22:12

TooTiredToType77 · 23/02/2024 13:15

I've been hanging my sheets out on the line at any opportunity, even in January, and then finishing off on the radiators. Read something about being outside, even in the cold, the fabric will dry. Advice about COL I think it was but it really works.

I hang my washing out all year round (not in the UK), and yes it does dry, or at least partially dry, even if it's cold or there's no sunshine. Unless it's actually raining my washing goes on the line - and yes, I love the sight of it.

I love it! I've dried quite a bit out there so fat this year. I live in a block of 12 flats and I am the ONLY person who uses the washing lines. It's unbelievable! I love thinking about the generations of women in my family who've gone before me, pegging out their washing, and here I am doing it now. 🥰

I think that's one of the joys. It's something women have been doing forever, and it really hasn't changed, still just a line and a few pegs. Technology can't improve on it.

It's warm and windy here today (NZ) - perfect!

Notinmylifethyme · 23/02/2024 22:21

Work gets in the way of my love for a line of laundry. But I am partial to drying on the rotary overnight in the summer and getting it in and ironed first thing. 👍

None of this darked on nonsense here😁

FussyPud · 23/02/2024 22:52

Line dried bedding and towels are little dopamine hits throughout the drying seasons. My children are learning how to hang things out too, this summer they should be able to not hang things completely wonkily. :)

FussyPud · 23/02/2024 22:53

I’m quite lucky, I have a long line and a whirligig in the garden. I’ve got room for another long line, so that may get added this year.

ScottBakula · 24/02/2024 08:30

@Chicheguevara , ha ha I love that . They will all be searching on Amazon for the wonder gadget.

LilacpointMummy · 24/02/2024 08:30

Chicheguevara · 23/02/2024 20:14

I love it.
I told the youngsters at work, that I dry my clothes using solar and wind technology and they think I am cool. I failed to mention the line and pegs bit, they think I have some futuristic gizmo in the kitchen.

I love this 😆

I'm fascinated by the putting it out at night in the summer sorcery! I've never done this, is this common among my people here?
