Putting washing on the line in the sun

I apologise if this is a niche pleasure - but does anyone else get a huge pleasure from seeing big sheets on the washing line in the sun?

Maybe it's a childhood thing.

I've washed everything in sight over the last couple of days! Bedding, towels, the blanket on the sofa, the dogs blanket, my sons oodie, more bedding.

I absolutely LOVE IT. Sleeping in my line dried bedding genuinely brings me joy and happiness.

100% this!!

My bedding was dried in the beautiful sunshine yesterday, and smelt so lovely last night. Had a fab day yesterday, windows open, internal doors open and stacks of washing blowing dry on the line. Did plenty of ‘silly’ jobs, too - the ones that get ignored in the winter, but then you catch up on during a lovely spring day🔆

WingBingo · 08/03/2025 09:39

What a beautiful day. Bedding will be out asap. Going to do all the beds today. Cushion covers, towels.

I agree about the line dried bedding. Brings me a lot of joy.

First load is out, second is nearly ready.

I have high hopes for today!

NoWordForFluffy · 08/03/2025 10:38

We have two loads out and will put the kids' bedding on shortly. It's a beautiful day here too!

TheNuthatch · 08/03/2025 10:47

Two loads out already, two to go.
I havent had to dry anything indoors this week!

I'm with you.

Clothes and sheets dry quick, it's good for the environment, and it's a sign of Spring!

Sadly a dying practice, which is why lots of people smell of damp dishcloths.

Oh God yeah. My ex always put the damn washing away before it was fully aired, the twit. 🙄

I used to have to rewash and dry/air it properly.

I LOVE hanging washing on the line & it smelling of outdoors when I bring it in. 🙂

NeedWineNow · 08/03/2025 13:02

I’ve got a line out blowing in the wind. Love hanging washing out and the fresh smell when you get it in, and there is nothing like fresh bedding which has been line dried.

Augustus40 · 08/03/2025 13:04

Yes blissful. Heard some bees buzzing too. Hope I don't have a nest somewhere.

Washing dried really fast today.

SpiderGwen · 08/03/2025 13:06

Bedding on the line and I have just seen a butterfly!

At this time of year it’s more likely to be bumblebees waking from hibernation

Pedallleur · 08/03/2025 13:41

3rd wash just gone out and will be dry by 6. Oh mighty Sun, I salute you.

artant · 08/03/2025 14:24

I also have a wash out and have seen a butterfly and a bumble bee out and about. It feels properly warm in the sun.

zingally · 08/03/2025 14:51

I've got a white wash out for the first time this year. Absolutely glorious!

NeedWineNow · 08/03/2025 20:38

It was lovely when I went to get the washing in. A bird was singing in the tree next door, there wasn't a cloud in the sky and then suddenly a Spitfire went over - we get them a lot as we're not far from Biggin Hill. Fabulous.

Lifebeganat50 · 09/03/2025 09:59

bright and sunny here so mine was out by 8am! There’s just something so wholesome about washing on the line isn’t there!

NoWordForFluffy · 09/03/2025 10:52

We left two loads out overnight, and they were lovely and dry when I brought them in a short while ago.

I might yet do a darks load to go out with our bedding which I put out after bringing the other washing in. It's very much 'wash everything in your house' weather! 😁

I agree with the 'wash everything in the house' weather. I am just trying to get to the bottom of the washing basket!! Lol.

StarlightLady · 09/03/2025 16:24

Line full of washing today, probably needs a little airing and summer dress with bare legs ⚡️.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/03/2025 08:12

Today was forecast to be dry and breezy.

A load of towels is about to finish and I’ve stripped the beds

It’s just started raining 😡

Oh no!! It's still beautiful here in the Midlands but forecast to rain later in the week. Needless to say the washer is on this morning!

Lifebeganat50 · 10/03/2025 09:44

2 loads on the line and the 3rd in the machine, it’s very blustery here so it may well all end up in the North Sea 🤣

nahthatsnotforme · 10/03/2025 09:45

Midlands here too and it's raining!

I have sheets in the machine 🤬

artant · 10/03/2025 17:16

Grey and still here. Very glad I got bedding dry yesterday.

ScottBakula · 15/03/2025 10:49

I'd had a couple of days of nice weather last week so decided to go for it and washed my pillows, 1 memory foam and 1 hollow fiber . Put them out and within 5 mins it hailed and chucked it down for 10 mins .
The memory foam one is still wet ( enough to wring out ) 😡

But today is warm with a gentle breeze so it may be dry enough to at least bring in .

Now , a important question, am I the only one that does this ?
I have two lines , they form a triangular ish shape .
So I peg things on both lines, ie one end of a sheet will be on the left line the other end pegged on the right line .
Starting with sheets , quilt covers at the wide end and pot towels at the narrow pointy end .
My lines are only short , I can just about fit one flat sheet on one the other is a bit longer but close to the wall so anything long flaps over the wall .
My back yard gets no sun at this time of year so it doesn't matter that the items shade each other .
But I can get loads out there ! * *

NoWordForFluffy · 15/03/2025 10:57

It's another bumper washing day today as it's beautiful outside! One load out, one doing, and another to go in when that's done imminently!

We couldn't do that with our washing, @ScottBakula, as although we also have a triangular set up, they're too far apart for the majority. Plus the dog would be running through the washing! Our lines are longer than yours though.
