It's not new, it's seven hours away from home, it'd be a second home boohiss until we retire, it needs a lot of work. It's been on the market for a year and has no kitchen. It's so remote we'd need a starlink to be able to work or call an ambulance.
I have the visual equivalent of a tin ear when it comes to decorating and I'm so excited I could cry (I did cry when we visited)

I have a whimsical image in my mind of a snowy scene with a lovely fire, lots of cosy sofas, jumpers and blankets, a cup of tea and a book, with a little doggo beside me. Gorgeous OP!

Jump on the practicality, get yourself a starlink, make sure you always have plenty of canned food and water available in winter to see out a big snowfall and enjoy it!

Enjoy your time up there. Have a read through here. https://www.reddit.com/r/VEDC/

We’re in! Rollercoaster on Friday with dour unhelpful solicitors and keys as we drove up, but safely installed. En route we stopped off at the local furniture shop and had bed and sofas delivered. Two roaring wood burners, random strange damp patches, car charger that works and dark dark skies and sheep for neighbours. Starlink needs a code so no WiFi or tv. Re remoteness, while we’re young and fit it’s not an issue- I’m currently at Edinburgh airport flying back to London for a family birthday party, leaving ddog and DH. Hugging myself!

Oh that looks utterly beautiful!!

heldinadream · 07/04/2024 10:20

View looks amazing OP. Well done for going for it. Has it got a kitchen yet or will you be subsisting on microwave and toaster concoctions?

Actually that sounds doable. Who needs a kitchen?
I'm in the process of moving and yesterday I was looking at boxes of kitchen and dining stuff I've just packed and thinking actually I could just chuck about three boxes of this stuff out and really live much more simply (not to speak of spend way less time cooking). 😅

changedagain67543 · 07/04/2024 20:38

Yey!

userxx · 07/04/2024 20:55

Wow, that's pretty spectacular.

reservoirdawg · 07/04/2024 21:16

You lovely lovely people 🥰
It’s so beautiful! It’s not practical for a family, but saw lots of relatives today and I’ll have a rota of guests and visitors, I’ll have to find some more beds.

Congratulations OP, that is everything I dream of. If you have done your research as I have, then you can ignore the naysayers because you know exactly what to expect of the weather etc. Wishing you much health and happiness and in case I dont get my dream, please can you install an Esse Ironheart stove and oven and post photos 😀

I have lots on relatives who grew up with Rayburn and Agas and the trauma when I mention them! One cold radiator, Dad getting up early and grumpily feeding it. I’d love one but literally a dozen friends and family have warned against one. I’m a member of a log burning stove group and the passion people have! But I suspect they’re such a big investment of time and energy that you will it to be great! I desperately want one!

Congratulations. It looks wonderful, and I hope you have many happy years there.

reservoirdawg · 16/04/2024 22:36

I took a 90 minute walk in all the Scottish weather to get phone signal at the weekend. Strode out in bright sun and was almost crying with pain as the rain lashed my face horizontally on the way back. However this was the view…
Still using the hob oven combo and our TV less evenings are spent feeding the fire, definitely some Withnail moments and definitely in love!
