It's not new, it's seven hours away from home, it'd be a second home boohiss until we retire, it needs a lot of work. It's been on the market for a year and has no kitchen. It's so remote we'd need a starlink to be able to work or call an ambulance.
I have the visual equivalent of a tin ear when it comes to decorating and I'm so excited I could cry (I did cry when we visited)

This is amazing - congrats! Just enjoy in and enjoy all the creative stuff you can do to it. Make it a home and make it yours!

reservoirdawg · 20/02/2024 12:40

Thanks so much @Bunbum
It would be a bit crass to tell my very lovely front line and trauma dealing colleagues and the dc are very🙄we're not giving them house deposits instead.
I'll post some pics

Oh wow!! Congrats OP, it looks bloody wonderful.

TokyoSushi · 20/02/2024 13:43

Oh my, that's glorious! Where is it? (Just Wales/The Highlands etc will do!)

ForeveraBluebird · 20/02/2024 14:02

That’s beautiful, you’ve worked hard , hope you enjoy your lovely house .

reservoirdawg · 20/02/2024 15:39

It’s amazing isn’t it!? Very remote- half hour’s drive to nearest shop but just over an hour to Glasgow.

OP posts:
Darklane · 20/02/2024 15:53

What a stunning location, an hour north or south from Glasgow?
Looking at the photos , of the hall in particular, it doesn’t look as if it will need all that much work. From your opening post I was expecting a half derelict do-er upper like you see dotted a lot around Scotland & the remote northern hills where we are.

Bunbum · 20/02/2024 16:46

Oh it’s simply bloody gorgeous @reservoirdawg, you will have to post some reno pics in due course!

Yeah boo hiss is right! Someone who needs that home now could be living in it and making a useful, full-time contribution to the rural community and economy. But you enjoy your Pinterest board.

Did you miss the bit about it having been on the market for a year?

It's been on the market for a year according to the OP, so some local has had plenty of time to snap it up, but you carry on being a joy sponge hey! Hmm

MaggieFS · 20/02/2024 17:05

Wow, congrats OP! Stunning location.

xSideshowAuntSallyx · 20/02/2024 17:05

There's probably a reason it's been on the market for a year.

Also everyone saying how good it looks aren't reading her posts properly, the photos with the stairs/hall are her pininterest board not the actual house.

By the way remote Scotland can be very depressing especially if the depths of winter.

Wow

Jealous? Or just mean?

It looks amazing OP, please don't take any notice of this person

Well no one has bought it in a year and I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to let a house with no kitchen.

bleak2024 · 20/02/2024 17:16

I think this property is near me. I recognise the pics and the description of distance re shops and Glasgow.

Be warned. It's very wet, most of the year. And winters can be brutal. You will get snowed in. And you will struggle to get tradesman to do work as the travelling time puts them off.

It's probably been on the market a year because locals know the area and its lack of facilities, and can't afford to renovate/ know the issues with building supplies and tradies.

AcridAndStanLee · 20/02/2024 17:20

It looks divine. I love your excitement for it too.

GuessThatGranny · 20/02/2024 17:22

Ooh, I’m guessing somewhere in Argyll? How lovely

SilverCatStripes · 20/02/2024 17:26

OP I’m excited for you !

Incredible location- look at those views ! And the house has so much potential, cheers to you !

reservoirdawg · 20/02/2024 17:42

Thanks all- the nearest primary school is 50 mins away! Nearest opportunities for employment half an hours drive away so we’re depriving other wfh’ers.

OP posts:
reservoirdawg · 20/02/2024 17:56

Indeed the interior pictures are all ideas not in situ.
It’s literally half an hour/ 40 mins from any shops or places of work. Nearest school is So we’re competing with other wfh’s, and it’s been empty for a year.

This looks like somewhere you retire to and enjoy some peace after working all your life. Your first thought is to be snippy about someone else’s happiness.
This isn’t a second home in a coastal village it’s in the middle of nowhere, empty for a year.
