Not really.

HelloMiss · 18/02/2024 20:41

Does the film version have better actors?

MadeOfAllWork · 18/02/2024 20:44

I was watched the first episode and nothing happened.
Does anything else happen.

Amazing. So invested in their story!!!

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 18/02/2024 21:21

I don’t get the hype tbh, it was very tedious despite being short episodes, I think one episode was about 22mins and it still felt long. “It was fine” is my review basically 😂

I really enjoyed the film with Anne Hathaway, I thought they had much better chemistry then the 2 actors in the tv show

Not for about 10 episodes then something happens that’s still pretty dull 😂

HelloMiss · 18/02/2024 21:22

Oh will give the film a try

Netflix series had terrible actors

Yes, it does. And it’s on Film Four.

Wishthiswasntmypost · 18/02/2024 21:23

I thought it wasn't realistic (she's such a moaner...he'd have run a mile) and much preferred the Anne Hathaway version

Ohwhatadag · 18/02/2024 21:29

I thought the film was much better. Dexter was pretty much the same in both. But Anne Hathaway was better as Emma. The film version of dexter and emma was more believable.

It is hard to believe that a 80s posh boy like dexter would be interested (even as friends) in a girl who was 1) non-white, 2) working class and 3) less attractive than him. And if he was, she'd need to have buckets of charisma. Sadly, the Netflix version of emma just doesn't have that spark.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 18/02/2024 21:39

We’re on episode 13. It’s worth it for Leo Woodall, he is so fit! I like it but I also like Twilight and nothing happens in that either 😂. Plus slightly dishevelled posh boys must be my type. Emma is so bloody miserable though and rude though.

Couldn't get through first episode...just odd and dull

I loved the first episode! But they graduated about 2 years after me, so maybe I recognised the time and that helped.

It was ok. Easy watching and only half an hour per episode. It did grow on me as it progressed but didn't live up the hype for me.

It’s more than half an hour an episode. Somebody else said that so I checked.

I thought it was slow, as did DH and a bit like a gen Z/late millennial had gone back in time. DH and I were children in early 90s but my brother was a year younger than they are supposed to be and I just can't imagine anyone going in holiday as a couple of friends at 21 plus at that time. It was unrealistic in that sense.

I went on holiday with a male friend at pretty much exactly that time.

Goldenbear · 18/02/2024 11:10

I've not seen her in anything else so can't judge but yes, that really stood out, the character is so miserable and pessimistic for a graduate.

Are graduates notably more cheerful than others then?

TeapotTwister · 18/02/2024 21:47

Loved the book and film. Hated the Netflix series (but stuck at it because people said it was a slow burner and then felt committed). i did cry in the last episode though.

Let's not be pedantic. I've also checked and it's half hour there and there abouts. Some a little more and some a little less.

The one I was watching when I checked was 45. I assumed they were all about the same.

BusterGonad · 18/02/2024 21:56

I enjoyed it. I loved the fashion and music. I haven't read or watched the movie so all new for me. I liked Emma. She made a refreshing change from the usual leading lady. I really loved the fact that she wasn't your usual traditional beauty. So refreshing.

Garlicdoughball · 18/02/2024 21:59

I was at Edinburgh uni not long after that, some of the details in the first episode fucked me off so much one eyebrow was wedged into my hairline for the next couple of hours. Am expecting a big payoff somewhere to justify the cliche ridden tediousness it’s been so far.

None of them are 45’. The longest one is ep1 at 38’. Episode 11 is only 19’!

My maths is shit. I paused it and it said I’d watched 20 and had 25 to go though… 🤷‍♀️
If I’m wrong I’m wrong. It’s what my Netflix said. Bit irrelevant in the long run though.

That figure usually includes several minutes of credits for the international dubs. The reliable figure for actual watchable content is on the ‘episodes’ page Smile

Not sure why everyone is so keen to tell me I’m wrong when I’ve already said 8 might be and it’s completely irrelevant to the discussion…
