What was your favourite soft drink when you were growing up?

We used to buy bottles of pop from the greengrocers, almost always Barr, which meant Tizer, Jusoda, Strike Cola and Dandelion and Burdock. I think Jusoda was my favourite, a sort of fizzy orange-flavoured drink although I have no idea what was actually in it! I remember thinking Strike Cola was every bit as good as Coca-Cola and Pepsi.

Citra, from Wakefield, made lots of fizzies too. Apple Dash was the best one. I probably considered it a bit grown-up as it was apparently made from the same fruit used to make cider!

I never cared for cherryade and cream soda. I wasn't crazy about Dandelion and Burdock either but I made do with it. I doubt I could stomach any of these drinks now; I'd be overwhelmed by the sweetness.

Limeade
Tiger
Pepsi

Hoglet70 · 17/02/2024 11:46

Lemonade as a little kid (I'm very boring) and then as soon as Diet Coke was invented (God it tasted vile in those days) I was on that with a vengeance.

I still get the 1Kcal advert that Victoria Wood sang pop up as my ear worm although I don't ever remember buying it.

Born mid 80s. Tizer and Lilt. Then, as a late teen to now age, cherry coke.

Shandy Bass with a packet of crisps from the off licence across the road.

HoldingTheDoor · 17/02/2024 11:51

Ginger beer by a long way.

I also enjoyed cream soda, diet Irn Bru, limeade and pineappleade.

Usernamewassavedsuccessfully · 17/02/2024 11:52

Lilt. But very occasionally mum would buy cherryade from the pop man and that was just 🤯

FloofyBird · 17/02/2024 11:52

Tizer
Dandelion and burdock
Vimto
Cherry coke
Cherryade
Occasionally lilt

Born in the 70's so it was all about the pop van. American ice cream soda was an unbelievable flavour, parents pushed dandelion and burdock but Coke has always been my favourite.

Malarandras · 17/02/2024 11:53

I loved Lilt as a kid. Don’t see it anywhere now though!

femfemlicious · 17/02/2024 11:53

Miranda, Linda, tandi gurana

MamaAlwaysknowsbest · 17/02/2024 11:53

Coke, lemonade and one non alcoholic one typical for our culture, well, actually two of those

VaddaABeetch · 17/02/2024 11:54

Fresca
cream soda
club lemon
club Orange

they were once in a blue moon treat.

I never drink fizzy drinks now.

MamaAlwaysknowsbest · 17/02/2024 11:55

Coke - lol, Coca Cola
I am sure not grown up in the West shows very clearly in me but we need many more of me on these forums also

Mudflaps · 17/02/2024 11:56

Lilt!! Totally tropical taste. Haven't had it in years and now I want some

MandyMotherOfBrian · 17/02/2024 11:57

Tab and Fresca, though it was such a rare occurrence that I’d get them - maybe twice a year. Then when my Dad became a milkman we would sometimes have a bottle of either cola, lemonade, cream soda, limeade, cherryade or orangeade - can’t remember what the Unigate brand was though. The last three were my favourites and that would be a rare treat he would bring home. I was allowed a Crazy Milk as a treat if I ever went out on the float with him.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 17/02/2024 12:00

Mr blobby pink lemonade from woolworths

mrsbyers · 17/02/2024 12:01

Quattro

barbrahunter · 17/02/2024 12:08

All of the above! I was a greedy child.

Northsideoftheriver · 17/02/2024 12:08

Memory lane this is.
I'd forgotten about Tizer.

For me it was apple tango and anything blue.
Couldn't touch the stuff now. Sunny delight was it called? Jesus, it was like radon in a bottle. I drank way too much of the stuff 🤢

Cream soda, wtf was that about? Yuk.

FebruaryHailstones · 17/02/2024 12:11

Lilt. It's almost impossible to get the proper stuff now (where I live anyway) and diet lilt is really revolting.

I remember when Tab Clear came out in the UK. Loved that.

LaPalmaLlama · 17/02/2024 12:13

Boring but my fave has always been coke, ever since I was a kid. Still like it now. Went to diet for a long time but now I’m back on the good stuff. Realised I’d rather have a can of fat coke a week than 2 cans of diet every day.

LaPalmaLlama · 17/02/2024 12:13

But I do also really like dandelion and burdock

Precipice · 17/02/2024 12:14

I didn't like fizzy drinks at all! I liked these puree juices (multifruit, all with a carrot base) that were popular in my country. In childhood, I drank them so much the doctors said I had to drink less as I was acquiring an orange tinge.

CockSpadget · 17/02/2024 12:16

Quatro! It was a mix of tropical fruits, loved it, then it just disappeared from the shops. Rubicon now do something pretty similar, but it’s not as good.
