What was your favourite soft drink when you were growing up?

We used to buy bottles of pop from the greengrocers, almost always Barr, which meant Tizer, Jusoda, Strike Cola and Dandelion and Burdock. I think Jusoda was my favourite, a sort of fizzy orange-flavoured drink although I have no idea what was actually in it! I remember thinking Strike Cola was every bit as good as Coca-Cola and Pepsi.

Citra, from Wakefield, made lots of fizzies too. Apple Dash was the best one. I probably considered it a bit grown-up as it was apparently made from the same fruit used to make cider!

I never cared for cherryade and cream soda. I wasn't crazy about Dandelion and Burdock either but I made do with it. I doubt I could stomach any of these drinks now; I'd be overwhelmed by the sweetness.

Born early 70s.

We didn't have any. Ever. I was v jealous of my cousin who had various Corona flavoured fizzy drinks that were delivered on a wagon that went around the town selling it.

Bon Accord fizzy pineapple was my favourite. I also loved cream
Soda. Creamola foam was superb. Lemon flavour. This was the 70's.

Tizer
Dandelion and Burdock

Usually bought with pocket money as dp’s couldn’t afford them.

DahliaMacNamara · 17/02/2024 12:22

I used to love cream soda, Irn Bru and red kola when we visited family in Scotland. Never let it be said we failed to experience the exotic.
At home, it was cherryade and dandelion and burdock, not that we got to choose very often. None of them are the same these days.

transformandriseup · 17/02/2024 12:22

Tizer, Limeade, Coke, Lilt

Ribena

Cherryade from the Corona lorry. Then I discovered Orangina on a family holiday in France in the early 80s. We had to put up with orange juice mixed with lemonade until it became widely available in the UK.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/02/2024 12:23

Coke in the glass bottles, but we only had it once in a blue moon/at Christmas.
This was ages ago though.

HRTQueen · 17/02/2024 12:25

I was born in the early 70’s I don’t remember a pop van

I’ve never liked fizzy drinks that much but I liked American cream soda especially with ice cream

PieonaBarm · 17/02/2024 12:25

Irn Bru (from the 80's not the one we have now!)
Tizer
Quattro
Um Bungo

Phoebefail · 17/02/2024 12:27

Cherry pop from Corona.

Didydani · 17/02/2024 12:29

For me capri sun and coke. I still enjoy them occasionally now.

TheTecknician · 17/02/2024 12:30

Ben Shaws was, maybe still is, another traditional Yorkshire bottled pop company. They all used glass bottles which were returnable for a few pennies and went to be washed and reused. Early days of recycling.

Oop north Dandelion and Burdock is a popular accompaniment to fish and chips. I don't know why this is.

Original Lucozade

TheTecknician · 17/02/2024 12:36

R. White's Lemonade is gross. Doesn't even gave a slight lemon taste, just chemicals. Schweppes and Carter's lemonade were more realistic.

I loved Quattro.

Vinorosso74 · 17/02/2024 12:40

I did like Lilt. I loved Citrus Spring which I think Britvic made, they did lime, orange and lemon varieties, all good but especially the lime one.
