ooh thought of another couple

In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning by Carly Simon (from the Sleepless in Seattle soundtrack). Absolutely pitch perfect.

If I Loved You from Carousel. Many years ago a young theatre group were singing songs from musicals in the Whitgift Centre in Croydon. DH went off to go to the gents and came back to find me in tears in the doorway of one of the shops listening to a lad who couldn't have been more than 15/16 was singing it. It is one of my favourite songs and it was a beautiful rendition. I often wondered if he went on to have a career in musical theatre.

Somebody - Depeche Mode
Always and Forever - Heatwave
The Very Thought of You - Al Bowllby
She Moved Through the Fair
Lagan Love - Hozier covered this a few years ago as a one off.

Luther Vandross - so many ballads! Love him covering A House is not A Home by Hal David and Burt Bacharach, This live performance is a tour de force in vocal control and talent- The GOAT

Giving you the best that I got - Anita Baker
Set Adrift on Memory Bliss - PM Dawn
Sign Your Name - Sananda Maitreya (Terence Trent Darby)

Lovely songs there. Can't improve on Dusty Springfield singing My Lagan Love though!

And Billie Davis' Angel of the Morning.

Or First Cut is the Deepest (PP Arnold version.)

It is very haunting. Padraic Colum wrote the words I think , though the air is much older. It was played at my mum's funeral.
The English priest announced it as She Moved Through the Air which conjured up images of the Snowman theme and gave us a little chuckle .

If You Could Read My Mind by Gordon Lightfoot. I don't think that's had a mention yet.

I note the mention of Stay With Me Baby upthread. Lorraine Ellison's version takes the song into power ballad territory but not corny crap power ballads. Needs high volume for maximum spinal shivers!

Time after Time. Cyndi Lauper.

It was playing when DH & I met in the 80's, it played, randomly, somewhere on most holidays we took in Europe for the last 35 years.

And it still plays now he is gone & brings a tear to my eye every time.

What a lovely memory. The lyrics are very apt too.

LadyEloise1 · 23/02/2024 09:38

Sorry for your loss @magimedi
Time After Time is fabulous.
I've heard it sung recently in a much slower tempo and it was beautiful. For the life of me I can't remember by whom. ☹️

Blackcountryexile · 24/02/2024 17:33

@LadyEloise1 Possibly Eva Cassidy?

TheTecknician · 24/02/2024 20:14
