My Mum and Dad were always dancing around the kitchen to this and when my Mum died last year I had it played at the funeral. I thought I was doing ok until it started and I fell apart and everyone cried- lovely song.

I’m sorry @FiveShelties I’ve only just seen your post, which has brought tears to my eyes. I’m sorry for your loss. I can imagine playing that song would have been a very moving tribute to your Mum x

FiveShelties · 17/02/2024 02:15

@Qwine thank you so much for your kind words, very much appreciated.

Against All Odds - Phil Collins.
In Too Deep - Phil Collins.

I really like some of Phil Collins’s love songs. He’s underrated imo.

Silver Springs by Fleetwood Mac.
True Colors - Cyndi Lauper.
Anything for You - Gloria Estefan.
Hands to Heaven - Breathe.

One Step Up - Bruce Springsteen.

I actually have a Spotify playlist called ‘Young Romance’ full of songs I used to listen to when I was a hormonal adolescent. It’s great for a nostalgic wallow 🥰

Some Enchanted Evening - from South Pacific.

Jack Jones recorded What I Did For Love for the same-titled album in about 1976. Very good it is too. My parents were fans and went to a few of his shows at the Batley Variety Club back in the day.

Theme From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To?) by Diana Ross is another old classic that somehow doesn't get old. Timeless.

I Get Along Without You Very Well - especially Chet Baker version. That last line: "Except perhaps in Spring - but I should never think of Spring, for that would surely break my heart in two."

Smooth radio play ‘Against all odds’ all the time.

Does a lullaby count as a love ballad.

If so - Goodnight My Angel by Billy Joel , written for his baby daughter. The Kings Singers version is awesome. Mums and Dads might need a box of tissues.

Stardust makes me bawl my eyes out, I think I want that one at my funeral.

Me too! The Nat King Cole version. Has me in floods. Every time.

Thank you was desperately trying to remember this yesterday.
yy Jack Jones my dad was a huge fan of his, not sure if I’m making this up but wasn’t he David Cassidy Dad?
Al Martino -Spanish eyes always makes me cry my Dad used to sing this a lot (he had a fabulous tenor voice)
Sam Cooke - you send me

SongbirdGarden · 17/02/2024 17:15

A love so beautiful. Roy Orbison,, Michael Bolton also covered it.

TheTecknician · 17/02/2024 17:18

Jack Jones is not David Cassidy's father. There's only 12 years' age difference.
