Has anything you usually buy recently just disappeared from shops?

I cannot find 'cook at home' poppadums anywhere. Used to be in most supermarkets. I used to buy them all the time. I go to my local Indian shop for them sometimes but they've usually only got flavours I don't favour. The ready made ones aren't as nice and are usually in a load of plastic non-recylcable packaging which doesn't please me either.

I don't mean products that have been discontinued a long time ago, more so things that still exist but you just can't buy anywhere from recently!

Own brand coffee creamer is another one. Don't use it myself but I've heard people at work saying this often.

Supermarket own brand diet ginger beer. I can get the Old Jamaica, but only from Amazon in packs of 24 - I really want to buy smaller packs and cheaper. It is on Tesco's website, but not in store.

Supermarket (Asda) own brand paracetamol - they do have a cheaper brand but all the caplets snap in half when you try and pop them out of the pack, which makes them difficult to swallow.

Those packets of lemon meringue filling. I think they might be available from Sainsbury's, but there isn't one near me.

Kingsmill no crusts 50-50 bread - always out of stock.

"Dentinox Cradle Cap Treatment Shampoo for Babies, 125 milliliters : Amazon.co.uk: Baby Products" https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dentinox-Cradle-Treatment-Shampoo-Babies/dp/B000KU53BQ

Shows as not available to me? Except from ‘other buying options’ at 9 quid (it’s usually about 2.50)

ScrambledSmegs · 15/02/2024 22:59

Oh my god YES Cox's Orange Pippins. The best apple. I remember going apple picking to an orchard in Kent and filling our pockets, it was the most gloriously quaint day and I ate loads of apples and got a stomach ache

Brown and Poulson Cornflour.

I can’t eat gluten so it is the only thing I can use to make a sauce.

Have tried all the supermarket own brands but they all go lumpy.

I hate lumpy sauce, so no more Lasagne for me.

Cornflour vanished down to the Ukraine. Now only own brand. I miss it too

Try Sainsburys. I bought their own ginger beer over Christmas and have seen it since.

I make sauces with ordinary (Dove’s Farm) g-f flour. Is that wrong?

Frozen vegetable base mix - carrot, onion and celery chopped into pieces far smaller than I’ll ever have the patience for. Gone from all the major supermarkets.

Gingerlygreen · 15/02/2024 23:05

Not for me but my Mum can't get own brand powdered milk, only Coffee Mate which she doesn't like.
Also our local Morrisons doesn't have Bisto powder any more.

justasking111 · 15/02/2024 23:11

I managed to get earl grey in the co-op, cheaper too

There's definitely a cut back in variety, sizes. Down to energy costs, staff shortages.

There's a huge shortage of drugs, the article I read said it's not going to end soon. Apparently the raw materials made in China. Covid sent many workers home to their regions and they haven't returned. India process creating the finished product only. Drug companies have put all their eggs in too few baskets

Amazon and eBay sometimes stock these disappearing things but because they know you can't get them, they are usually expensive.

I end up buying packs of six or more - at inflated prices - when it's become clear things are disappearing. This only delays the misery, of course, but I keep hoping shortages are just due to post-Brexit logistics blips, and they'll come back (few have so far).

There's hydrocortisone cream on Amazon.

I'm still bereft over the withdrawal of Day Nurse. That stuff was magic. Also Ranitidine - seems that OTC meds which actually work are doomed!

Mini chopper! Best thing ever. I have this which is just the bowl and blade to clean
Hack up whatever veg, throw it in and press down, and you have tiny chopped bits

Alpro fake cream. Nobody's got any this month; I am optimistic about its return, though. Maybe they failed to plan for Veganuary?

A pack of 3 red bell peppers. I’m 32 weeks pregnant and want only red peppers. I got a substitute for mixed peppers, went into tesco, again only mixed peppers .. went to Morrisons … no red peppers nor even loose ones!!! One red pepper just doesn’t cut it. I don’t want yellow or green I want red! 😂

It's the same with chillies too. Tesco used to sell packs of red chillies, green chillies or mixed. Now you can only get mixed.

I've noticed quite a few things disappearing from stock over the last couple of years. Tesco used to do a really nice freshly squeezed OJ, seems to have vanished now. In our local shops it's getting harder and harder to find free range chicken of any kind. One (Morrisons) doesn't sell it any more and it's often out of stock in the others.
we used to buy frozen edamame beans but can't find them any more.
Really noticing everything shrinking over the past couple of months too.

I've had frozen edamame beans from sainsburys recently. I have noticed the quality has gone down though.

Persil Colour powder, though you can still get it on Amazon

Large branches of Morrisons sell it too

Asda last week, finish was the only brand available.

IntheSnowySnowyMountains · 15/02/2024 23:21

Can't quote more than one post but @EffieeBriest @AllBlackEverything Pepto Bismol tablets have also disappeared! There must be something about indigestion medication... got DH to ask in the pharmacy this week as I've nearly finished my stash and apparently PB are no longer available. I suspect they are Brexit casualties as they've been gone about 3 years.

@AllBlackEverything Lysopaïne tablets for sore throats (available in France, not sure where else) have a similar numbing effect to Tyrozets (sorry for tagging you twice).

@Jk987 Gutted that P.G. Tips have been replaced (and noticed only 210 in a box now, probably the same price as 240 used to be Angry).

Tumbleweed101 · 15/02/2024 23:21

Body form night pads without wings.

Hate winged towels so their ‘new’ ones don’t suit me. They were the only ones that matched my flow and sleeping patterns as I need pads as far to the front as possible as I sleep on my front. Winged ones force you to put it too low down.

blibblibs · 15/02/2024 23:22

Dove Shea butter bar soap.
Just isn't in the shops anymore, Amazon have it but it's way more expensive and the packaging is European but I still bulk buy it at inflated prices because I haven't found another bar soap that doesn't dry my skin out and I don't want to use a shower gel.

There's some, and I can't remember the bloody brand! They've got wings but the back bit is longer... so what I do is turn them and you then get a giant front bit which is brilliant

Ranitidine was withdrawn for safety reasons. I wonder if it will ever return.

Waitrose sell this. It’s a bit chunky but does the job.

I have been reading this thread thinking I’m glad it’s not just me. Yes to peppermint tea, condensed soup, dishwasher salt and decent baking potatoes.

Im also struggling to get jarred hollandaise and coffee filters. I’m having to buy the latter in bulk from Amazon, none of my local supermarkets have any.
