Has anything you usually buy recently just disappeared from shops?

I cannot find 'cook at home' poppadums anywhere. Used to be in most supermarkets. I used to buy them all the time. I go to my local Indian shop for them sometimes but they've usually only got flavours I don't favour. The ready made ones aren't as nice and are usually in a load of plastic non-recylcable packaging which doesn't please me either.

I don't mean products that have been discontinued a long time ago, more so things that still exist but you just can't buy anywhere from recently!

Own brand coffee creamer is another one. Don't use it myself but I've heard people at work saying this often.

Tinned anchovies.
It's as if they've gone extinct.

And as for the version in bottles, the bottles have shrunk and you just get a layer of anchovies around the outside.

So I've gone and looked and apparently there is an international shortage due to El Niño.

Edited

I eventually found those in M and S. Sainsbury's has them too but in a 100g jar!

aliceinanwonderland · 15/02/2024 21:14

Frozen chargrilled aubergine. It was brilliant for moussakas

I was going to say anchovies! I wondered if there was a global shortage. I found some tinned ones in Sainsbury's this week so pounced.

Yes! Pond's cold cream seems to have completely disappeared recently and I'm almost at the bottom of my jar. Where has all the cold cream gone?? I really do not want to be forced to join the 21st century and use something else!

Ifailed · 15/02/2024 21:17

Tinned anchovies
My sainsbury's sell them in tins and jars.

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 15/02/2024 21:20

Tesco Finest peppermint tea
Aldi (whatever their finest equivalent is) peppermint tea
M&S (finest version again) peppermint tea

You get the theme 🙄

All the pyramid real mint types.

Haven't been able to get since war in Ukraine started but I don't know if there's any correlation. Can still get Teapigs but I don't really want them.

Goldenthigh · 15/02/2024 21:20

I've noticed quite a few things disappearing from stock over the last couple of years. Tesco used to do a really nice freshly squeezed OJ, seems to have vanished now. In our local shops it's getting harder and harder to find free range chicken of any kind. One (Morrisons) doesn't sell it any more and it's often out of stock in the others.
we used to buy frozen edamame beans but can't find them any more.
Really noticing everything shrinking over the past couple of months too.

DrCoconut · 15/02/2024 21:21

Morrisons gluten free pizza ☹️

Have not been able to get jamaica ginger cake since covid hit.

Where are you located? I've been able to get this in several different supermarkets.

Gingernaut · 15/02/2024 20:17

This isn't recent, but Tyrozets

They've been discontinued because they contained an antibiotic, but they were fabulous for sore throats

I still miss Tyrozets. Nothing else comes close. I went a bit mad last winter googling to see if they were stocked in other European countries, no such luck or I'd have booked a holiday just to stock up.

My mum likes Trex for baking. I can't find any anywhere

Shake n vac!! Can’t find it anywhere

Aldi plain protein Yoghurt - was 500g tub, about £1.39 so cheaper than branded Skyr. Has totally vanished. Lots of small, flavoured pots, but not the big, unflavoured option.

Lidl sells it my DH buys two tubs a week

BreakfastAtMilliways · 15/02/2024 21:40

Microwave/roasting bags with ties (not steam bags, they’re rubbish, fiddly and too small). The only ones I’ve seen recently are large enough for a small turkey and come in packs of 2 for about £6.50 a pack. Not that desperate. I’ve wondered if it’s some kind of anti-plastics drive.

Haven’t found Asda own brand dental floss on the shelf for months (or any other brand on their shelf, come to that). All they seem to have are the stupid little ‘dental harps’ (way to increase plastic pollution) or interdental brushes (great for hearing aid tubing, not so great for gums). I was so pissed off with them the other day, I took out the shelf ticket and put it in the bin.

(I found some dental floss in Home Bargains for 49p. Silver linings.)

PG Tips pyramid tea bags. We used to get the boxes of 240.

I think they're all square now

IloveAslan · 15/02/2024 21:47

I live in NZ and several things I used to buy have disappeared from the supermarket shelves. Not so much the actual products, but they used to be sold in various sizes and now there is only a choice of one, usually larger than what I want.

theDudesmummy · 15/02/2024 21:48

@PelvicFloorClenchReminder I got ponds cold cream on amazon last week.

Previousreligion · 15/02/2024 21:50

Morrisons Best chopped tomatoes in packs of four. You can still get them as single tins but they cost twice as much.

I was just thinking last week that several things I always buy seem to never be in stock anymore.

AQuantityOfNaughtyCats · 15/02/2024 21:51

Nappy sacks. To reduce single use plastics I assume. Which is fine but I need to put used cat litter in something. Compostable dog poo bags work when I can find them.

Bird and blend do a nice one but it's more expensive and this company too

These are £20 but 100 bags

(Yes I'm bored tonight!)

Mammma91 · 15/02/2024 21:54

A pack of 3 red bell peppers. I’m 32 weeks pregnant and want only red peppers. I got a substitute for mixed peppers, went into tesco, again only mixed peppers .. went to Morrisons … no red peppers nor even loose ones!!! One red pepper just doesn’t cut it. I don’t want yellow or green I want red! 😂

Lots on Amazon if you don't object to them
I use these for cat litter

Sainsbury's have some online too, I've used them before

Aldi haven't had any for months, I got their dog poo bags though which are decent

Riverlee · 15/02/2024 21:56

Ocado do packs of three red peppers. The red ones taste the best.

Pear Drops!
I know I can get them online and in proper sweet shops, but sometimes I just want to grab some from the supermarket, they used to be a staple with the humbugs and dolly mixture!

I've had this issue with bon bons
