How many countries have your teen dc visited?

I just posted on another thread saying we've travelled a fair bit and my dc19 said she's very grateful for this. I've just counted though and they've been to 8 non UK countries over 3 continents, which doesn't sound a lot. We've been to some countries twice, but different areas. I didn't include transit countries.
This is not a stealth boast BTW as we've always done it on the cheap, they've been taken out of school and our accommodation would leave most of MN pearl clutching!

By 19 I had been to:

  • France
  • Spain
  • Italy
  • South Korea
  • South Africa
  • Botswana
  • Zambia
I think 8 is pretty good! My parents have never been abroad so all of my trips were with school
oOmoonhaOo · 14/02/2024 20:18

Ds is 14. He’s never been out of europe but been to Italy, Greece, Spain, France, Switzerland, Gibraltar, Portugal. So 7.

FartingAgainstThunder · 14/02/2024 20:19

My eldest two (13 & 15) Have been to France, Germany, Australia and as we are Scottish they'd like to include England (I don't think it counts but they want to bump up their numbers)

At their age I'd been to Majorca (three times unfortunately, It wasn't my type of holiday as a young teenager)

WinterLobelia · 14/02/2024 20:21

My family live in a two different countries abroad and DHs family the same.

So our 14 and 12 year olds have been to;

New Zealand
Australia
Greece
Turkey
France
Belgium

4 of those places were to visit family (or 'sitting on other peoples sofas' as DH calls it).

Waitingfordoggo · 14/02/2024 20:22

My DC are 18 and 15 and they’ve visited 13 countries, mostly in Europe but also USA and Canada. They’re very lucky and they know it.

InMySpareTime · 14/02/2024 20:22

My DCs have only been abroad twice with us, but have gone away with school and scouts on a few international trips.
Ireland
France
Belgium
Italy
Denmark
Netherlands
Morocco
USA

By the time I was 18 I'd been to:
Ireland
Spain
Greece
France
Netherlands
USA
Cyprus
Denmark
Austria

So I reckon we're pretty much even

Notevenslightlydamp · 14/02/2024 20:22

DD is 18. She's been to 8 different countries.

Emily1583 · 14/02/2024 20:23

One - New York. We have been planning to go to Australia for a few years but put it off twice due to Covid and then secondly family illness. Penciled in for next year now fingers crossed.

Waitingfordoggo · 14/02/2024 20:25

By the time I was 18, I had been to at least 4 European countries, plus Malaysia, USA, Canada and New Zealand. I felt (and still feel) very fortunate. I’ve now been to about 30 countries.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 14/02/2024 20:29

LaPalmaLlama · 14/02/2024 20:31

Ds is 13 and been to 16 countries plus country of birth and Uk. I’m including ski trips though and never sure if those really count because a mountain is a mountain is a mountain.

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 14/02/2024 20:33

Neverlands for both

megletthesecond · 14/02/2024 20:35

Just one ski trip. Hopefully an Iceland trip later this year.
We've never had a family holiday though. (Too poor).

S72 · 14/02/2024 20:38

DS is 12. Single parent. 14 countries so far but some of these were on the same trip, for instance driving through Austria, Slovenia and Croatia on a road trip & camping.

Bigdoglittlecat · 14/02/2024 20:40

Mine are mid teens - France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands, Denmark, Greece, Vietnam, China, India.

When I was their age I’d only been to France, Spain and Denmark - I didn’t do any real travelling til I left home as we couldn’t afford it, or perhaps it wasn’t so common in the 80s & 90s. I love it, and now they are old enough now to start doing trips by themselves in the next couple of years I’ll be encouraging it 100%.

Kyogo67 · 14/02/2024 20:41

DD is 16 and has been to
UAE
Lebanon
Italy
France
Spain
US
Portugal
Greece
Turkey

Dacadactyl · 14/02/2024 20:41

My 17 yo DD has been to 3 other countries...2 in Europe, one further flung.

My 11 yo DS has been to the same 3 countries as his sister.

TheSmallAssassin · 14/02/2024 20:42

At 18:

Wales
The Netherlands

Daughter has been to France too.

We've had at least one UK holiday every year and seen a good bit of England. We could probably have afforded to go abroad more, but there's so much here.

HRTQueen · 14/02/2024 20:43

ds is 16 abs has been to 14 countries

some of this is down to family who live abroad

Retrievemysanity · 14/02/2024 20:43

13 year old DD has been to France, Spain, Finland, Croatia, Holland, Cyprus and Montenegro. Would’ve been to a few more but curtailed by Covid.
