How many countries have your teen dc visited?

I just posted on another thread saying we've travelled a fair bit and my dc19 said she's very grateful for this. I've just counted though and they've been to 8 non UK countries over 3 continents, which doesn't sound a lot. We've been to some countries twice, but different areas. I didn't include transit countries.
This is not a stealth boast BTW as we've always done it on the cheap, they've been taken out of school and our accommodation would leave most of MN pearl clutching!

Ours (early teens) have been to

France, Belgium, Netherlands by car
Greece
Spain
Croatia
Italy
Switzerland
Wales and Scotland

Planning an out-of-Europe trip in a couple of years

mondaytosunday · 15/02/2024 08:32

By the time they were in their teens they had both been to:
Australia (before they were four)
America (about six times)
Spain (before they were both one, then at least once a year til covid)
France
Italy
Scotland
Ireland
Holland
Norway
Belgium
Luxembourg
Wales
Portugal (just one of them there now for a month work experience)

They were 14 and 16 when the pandemic hit and we've only been back to Holland, Belgium and America since then.

I would love to take the kids to Paris for the day but passports are about £80 each and none of us have one so it’s just too expensive. I don’t really want to get each of us a passport every few months and if I save there’s always something more pressing to spend the money on.
My kids were the only ones in their primary school class who hadn’t been overseas. I feel a bit sad now

Flivequacle · 15/02/2024 11:20

12 countries, 4 continents.

cheezncrackers · 15/02/2024 11:28

Not including the countries of the British Isles DS1 (16) has been to 17 countries and DS2 (12) has been to 13. DH and I love to travel and we spend most of our disposable income on it, but they (and we) are very aware how lucky we are to have visited so many countries. By the time I was 19 I'd been to 7 countries.

MojoDojoCasaHouse · 15/02/2024 12:11

My 16 year old has been to

Morocco
France
Netherlands
Belgium
Germany
Italy
Spain
Iceland

Younger DC as above without Morocco (before she was born) and Iceland (school trip)

We’re happy to stick to Europe I minimise flights and to save money. We usually ferry and drive.
