Nudists/Naturists

I have a friend who introduced me to life modelling last year and the same friend invited me to join her at a nudist/naturist evening at a swimming pool a few weeks ago. I went with her and found myself enjoying it, so I went with her last weekend too. There was quite a good balance between female/male attendees, which helped make it feel comfortable. So I am wondering if there is a fair number of nudists/naturists on Mumsnet too?

I'm glad for you. I had my first experience of being naked outside away from home last weekend, on a quiet beach in the far north of Scotland 😁

Great stuff. How did it go? Welcome to the world of naturism

I am not a naturist as I wouldn't go outside naked but in the UK (although worse in the US) we need to get over thinking naked bodies as shameful. It's weird.

FYI I half think DS might grow up to be a naturist - loves stripping off 😂😂😂 Have persuaded him to only do it at home

Thank you. I must admit I did keep looking around at first in case anyone else suddenly appeared but soon relaxed enough to walk down to the water and have a short swim. That gave me the confidence to explore some rocks without getting dressed again 😁

I love the feeling of sun on my bare skin (important not to burn, though,) and swimming with no cossie. And if I like it, why shouldn't others? It's not about looking at others, it's about being comfortable in your own skin. Not that I'd call myself a naturist, but nudity doesn't bother me.

Me too love the. Sun tan. All. Over

JL690 · 17/05/2024 07:40

Loving this period of sunshine to make good use of my back garden 😃☀

Back from Crete. A beautifully peaceful week, in a lovely place. No scramble for sunbeds, met some lovely people and all over tan as a leaving gift.

JL690 · 23/05/2024 22:46

So glad you enjoyed it. I'll maybe get there one day.

Our club has a camping area where single men are not permitted that helps make women feel safe and gives the impression nothing to see here.

Seagull222 · 06/06/2024 07:26

I am new to being. Nudist I only. A nude in the house

I have been watching this post with interest and have hesitated in responding because of some of the draconian attitudes reflected up thread.

l am one of 2 sisters, now in my 40s (if that’s relevant), UK born, but because of dad’s job brought up in France. Just over 20 miles away, but cultural differences are huge. The naked breast is the symbol of France and, in addition, naturist holidays are heavily promoted by the government owned French Tourist Board.

Mum, who used to go topless at the beach, taught us that there was nothing wrong with bodies, but some people were silly about it. In addition we were told of the dangers of “bad people”.

Personally, l like the feeling of swimming naked and feeling the sun on my body. No wet cossie and as for the brief swimwear suggested up thread l’m too old for. But nudity, non sexual, can very much be a leveller for all shapes and sizes. I’m relaxed about being seen naked, but have no desire to be ogled or cat called. In the right places it is possible.

I am neither a pervert or an exhibitionist, l have no desire to go shopping naked, play bingo naked or whatever. I just want to enjoy the sun without either causing offence or distraction.

MyLovelyPurse · 06/06/2024 08:59

@StarlightLady i think your points about France are good but mainly relevant to the post war period until perhaps 10/15 years ago.

Young French women now are much less likely than their parents to go topless. Just look around a French beach this summer. It really won’t be different to a UK beach.

This has nothing at all to do with prudishness but a recognition that centuries of believing that the female body is for the enjoyment of others can’t be undone either by the earnest ‘rational’ belief that we ‘should’ be naked because it is ‘natural’ (predominant in Germany) or that is the duty of women to be liberated, insouciant, swinging and cool (in France).

elliejjtiny · 06/06/2024 09:35

It's not my scene, I'm too fat and wobbly. Although sometimes I look at my massive like of laundry and think I'd have so much more time and less stress if we were naturists!

StarlightLady · 06/06/2024 09:41

@MyLovelyPurse - There are certainly beaches in southern France which are very different to UK beaches and topless is very much the norm; I’m taking about this year.

l think in France at least, women tend to be more confident and libertine with age, hence as they get older the top comes off, rather than wearing a scaffolding like structure with minimal coverage and hoists the boobs up to the neck.

In France though, walking along a promenade in swimwear is a big no-no. What happens on the beach stays on the beach.

I often wonder whether naturists are A-sexual. I find being naked extremely sexual, and men's bodies very arousing, so there's no way I could be a naturist without wanting a shag immediately.

what, every single naked body you see?! I think that’s unusual. I feel much more aligned with @StarlightLady that nudity isn’t inherently sexual, that’s something humans have imposed on it and simply being nude in a setting where it’s accepted/expected is neutral and natural. Yes, of course you notice if someone is physically attractive or has a body you find visually pleasing, but in the spaces I’ve been in there’s a mutual respect and understanding that nobody’s there for that.

JL690 · 06/06/2024 10:50

@elliejjtiny The so called ideal body is in the minority where I go for the weekly swim so I wouldn't say anyone is too fat or wobbly.

@wasntlikethisinthegoodolddays I don't get naked only for sex, most of the time it is for comfort, showering, socialising - routine life to be honest. Entirely different from being sexually naked, which I enjoy too.

Not every body, but I'm sure there would be more than a few that were fanciable , and being naked myself I find extremely arousing, especially outdoors. I just couldn't do it !!

Finally it was a weekend where I got some proper sunbathing in my garden. It seems like years since the last one.

That's great! Just back from a couple of hours outside in the sun, just sunbathing how I want to, as we do on holiday. Our neighbour knows and is totally relaxed about it. I just don't go naked when their kids are around.
It's amazing what a bit of openness and tolerance does

JL690 · 01/08/2024 17:01

I worked from home today, a nice hot day so I didn't get dressed after my shower. It was a nice natural feeling. I had a nap at lunchtime, woke up startled by a long ring of the door bell, jumped up and answered it to a delivery driver with parcel for next door and a silly grin on his face!! He obviously enjoyed the view 😆

My wife & I got into nudism during lockdown. We started not getting dressed in the morning and enjoyed the freedom. Then it was all day walking around the house nude. Then as the warmer weather came in it was the house and garden. I guess the feeling of freedom is addictive. Were now nude at home most of the time. And in the summer were at the nudist beach any chance we get. I can honestly say, when DW and I are on the beach with nothing on, we dont have a care in the world 😊

NetDesMamans1 · 03/12/2024 17:41

I went to Clover Spa in Birmingham twice, and it was genuinely lovely, not awkward. It's 'clothes optional'.
Do not go to Silverleigh in Kent. Just....don't. Shudder.

Now I need to know why? 😂

NetDesMamans1 · 03/12/2024 23:45

@PeanutKing - the comments on TripAdvisor will tell you what you need to know. I saw a couple shagging in a hot tub, and then on the loungers. Wine glasses were plastic. Sleazy fellas abounded. Walls were thin. It was so very bad. I still need to leave a review.
