The predicted "Angela Rayners house" thread has now appeared in AIBU 🙄

Baroness Warsi is on fire today, taking apart Badenoch's 'we use the term anit-muslim hatred response od Dodds

This is absolute nonsense Kemi and you know it.
I met you alongside other colleagues over a year and a half ago and the definition was explained to you in detail - you were asked to detail your concerns / any objections and the basis of it .
You DID NOT follow up.
Instead all work on Islamophobia ( or whatever you feel we are allowed to call our racism ) has stopped.
Ministers do not even engage with the governments OWN cross government working group on your preferred “anti Muslim hatred”
The government has dragged its heels on any work to tackle this form of racism.
The only structures and programs that still survive are what we put in place during a Cameron government over a decade ago.
Amazing flagship programs like Remembering Srebrenica have been defunded.
No new initiatives , no engagement with communities , no definition
Instead culture wars , othering and blatant anti Muslim racism.
As for “blasphemy laws” - you know this isn’t true , as was explained and evidenced in our meeting and as you are well aware the definition like the IHRA definition on antisemitism is a NON legally binding working definition not a “law”
PS- just so colleagues word sensibilities are not triggered - the World will in a few weeks mark the United Nations International day to combat #Islamophobia.

Did I really just hear that Anderson could get his whip restored Shock

OP posts:
DuncinToffee · 26/02/2024 08:55

Good point by Jon Sopel

Just listened to the PM and Mark Harper - both saying Lee Anderson’s comments were ‘wrong’ and whip withdrawn for not apologising.
They refuse to say that he was racist or Islamophobic. So my question is this:
What exactly do they want Lee Anderson to apologise for?
Bewildering

I’ve been wondering about this since I heard it was suspended. Why wasn’t removed. Bridgen had his removed for anti-Semitism. You wouldn’t hear the end of it if Starmer suspended rather than removed it.

It is an interesting line they are taking on this. Truss and Braverman didn’t do anything wrong but Anderson did. Except that he also didn’t but was suspended for not apologising for the thing that he didn’t do wrong.

Here is Sunak going on about words matter and he choose the wrong words, it doesn't make sense

https://x.com/Haggis_UK/status/1762046600770117787?s=20

Georgey Spanswick(Radio York): Has the Tory Party got islamophobic tendencies?

Rishi Sunak: "No, of course it doesn't... "

OP posts:
RafaistheKingofClay · 26/02/2024 09:53

No, said Rishi hiding the report into Islamophobia in the Tory party at the bottom of a drawer.

I'm horrified. "Mulling" an AIBU thread but I don't want to encourage any racists on here.

This really is horrific.

The rivers trust have finally noticed the state of the rivers. 0% of rivers in England and NI are in good condition environmentally.

Interesting that they all agreed it did and said they’d address it in the leadership contest. I guess they couldn’t be seen to dis agree with Javid.

newnamethanks · 26/02/2024 12:44

I'm staying out of his today because I'm too angry to make sense. We can all see that extremists are taking over the Tory party and they are neither Muslim nor owned by Sadiq Khan. 'First cast out the mote in thine own eye' Tories. Indefensible and disgraceful. Well said Sayeeda Warsi.

tobee · 26/02/2024 14:20

Lee Anderson has made a statement via GB News (which I'm trying to find a link to that doesn't include extra stuff) which basically seems to be pretending he said something entirely different. That it was about Khan calling for a ceasefire "with no conditions while the hostages are still there being held at gunpoint by a terrorist organisation".

It has a totally different flavour.

tobee · 26/02/2024 14:25

So I've found GB News report and, as they say, he's ramping up the attack on Khan:-

tobee · 26/02/2024 14:25

So not a different flavour after all. Angry

I can't even articulate how angry this makes me....

IClaudine · 26/02/2024 14:55

Tice's statement is incitement to hatred.

Tice's statement is incitement to hatred.

Yup. Unfortunately it seems to be resonating with certain sections of the population.

tobee · 26/02/2024 14:59

I'm a Londoner and I'm not scared. He does not speak for me.

(Im not Jewish or Muslim. )

AdamRyan · 26/02/2024 15:00

It's unbelievable isn't it.
I don't know how racists have become so emboldened. I hate the fact he's been mealy mouthed with his "The projecting of a vile antisemitic slogan on our Houses of Parliament". It said "from the river to the sea". How antisemitic that is, is debatable amd he knows it which is why he made it sound like something much worse. I'm fed up with this division.

People are becoming emboldened because they can see anything they like on the internet that backs them up.

This is why it should be clamped down on when said by politicians. This why GB News is highly problematic.

DuncinToffee · 26/02/2024 15:12

Anderson is such a coward making that statement on Gbeebies without scrutiny.

And there is also Paul Scully talking about “changing neighbourhoods” and Muslim “no go areas” in Tower Hamlets and Birmingham.

And that is true of the majority of Londoners, IMO. The Anderson fans will explode when Khan gets back in.

LittleBowSheep · 26/02/2024 15:24

It seems to me that 30p Lee is trying to get pushed rather than take the jump himself and then he/Reform can blame the Tories for booting him out. It's not his fault, obviously.
