It's all very contradictory. Coffey saying swift action was taken but also saying she didn't think LA was a racist and Dowden saying that LA wasn't intending to be Islamaphbic. Are they questioning Sunak's actions?

mibbelucieachwell · 25/02/2024 13:16

Apart from anything else- 30pLee's gall to accuse SK of giving away London to his mates. Has he forgotten about all the Conservative corruption? Off the top of my head, the PM's wife benefitting from government contracts, Tory donors benefitting from government contracts, Michael Gove's dodgy dealings, peerages given to Tory donors and Russian oligarch mates.

Cornettoninja · 25/02/2024 13:56

Ah glad you got the last sentence in there @mibbelucieachwell! I was poised to bring up lebedev Grin

How dare he!

Rishi Sunak warns of hatred in politics after Lee Anderson row - BBC News

This is someone who dog whistles about trans people regularly.
Maybe he just can't see it?

How dare he indeed. He is the man who said "while we were opposing terrorists, Kier Starmer was taking payments from them" a few weeks ago at PMQs.Hmm

Cornettoninja · 25/02/2024 14:01

I wonder what Sunak will say?

I’m a knob please like me, I’m a knob please like me, I’m a knob please like me, I’m a knob please like me….

That’s what I hear when he talks anyway

DuncinToffee · 25/02/2024 14:10

Here is the full read out of Sunak's statement, no mention of Islamophobia

That statement is disgusting. It's deflection, deflection, deflection. Absolutely no taking of responsibility, or acknowledgement of their actions. Pure vitriol and a bloody good example of what is wrong in politics.

Antisemitism is not acceptable in a civilised society, but neither is islamophobia. Both need addressing, and singling out one group over another, especially from the position of PM, you are adding fuel to the fire.

DuncinToffee · 25/02/2024 14:39

Here is Sadiq Khan's reply

Rishi Sunak's statement on hatred in politics fails to mention anti-Muslim hatred at all.

His deputy today refused to condemn Lee Anderson’s racist and Islamophobic remarks.

These are just the two most recent examples of enabling anti-Muslim hatred in the Conservative party.

In recent months we’ve seen a terrifying spike in hate towards Jewish and Muslim communities.

Racism is racism. There should be no hierarchy.

Now, more than ever, we should be seeking to bring our country together. There must be zero tolerance for the politics of division.

To me, the subtext of that statement is that Sunak broadly agrees with Anderson. Phrases such as "infect our streets" are inflammatory language IMHO.

Sunak clearly has his own prejudices.

L1ttledrummergirl · 25/02/2024 14:49

That's a good, measured response. Dignified given the attacks on him.

"He (Sunak) appeared alongside farmer Gareth Wyn Jones and stood next to placards emblazoned with the logo for the campaign “No Farmers No Food”.
Wyn Jones is a leading supporter of the campaign, which was started and is being run by James Melville, a GB News pundit and communications consultant."
Says it all really.

When they talk about shadowy figures they need to start looking closer to home.

Gareth Wyn Jones is a decent man who only wants a decent deal for Welsh farmers. His family have received death threats this week.

Notonthestairs · 25/02/2024 15:21

I was referring to Melville - certainly not Wyn Jones. Sorry I wasn't more clear.

There's nothing shadowy about this. Farmers all over Europe are sick to the back teeth. Have you not seen the protests?

cakeorwine · 25/02/2024 15:49

So this is a Word Cloud of Bravermans Telegraph article
But different to Anderson - and yes, I did have to read the article

Ok Dexra. I'll withdraw shadowy. I don't find Melville reliable. Of course you are free to think otherwise. Did you read the article that was linked - is it incorrect?

Notonthestairs · 25/02/2024 16:09

Sorry, Derxa not Dexra.

Piggywaspushed · 25/02/2024 16:13

Melville is extremely dodgy. And I'd wager he knows next to nothing about farming.

I would have thought you might be annoyed by him latching on to a cause and using it for photo ops, potentially meaning many people don't care to find out more.

He's a farmer's son.

derxa · 25/02/2024 16:19

He's a farmer's son.

And I’m a former RAF pilot’s daughter. Strangely I can’t fly a plane.

Piggywaspushed · 25/02/2024 16:31

Hmmm.

He's also an antivaxxer, anti masker, Covid denier climate change denier. He's just a disruptor.

Does he live on a farm? Does he live anywhere near Wales?

A lot of Welsh farmers don't seem too thrilled with him.

The article is a mishmash. There is nothing inaccurate. It doesn't care about the plight of Welsh farmers though. I couldn't give a shiny shite about Rishi Sunak or any other party leader or their godforsaken parties.

Electoral calculus now predicts a Labour win for my constituency .

My Tory stronghold constituency.

Currently led by Braverman.

My god that would be the biggest party I've had Grin

Growing up on a farm never leaves you. You have no idea. Anyway I'm not a supporter of this man.
