How old are you and how long have you been on Mumsnet?

I'll start... I'm 51 and I've been here 15 years.

I was thinking recently that Mumsnet has got older but maybe that's because I hang about in different corners (Higher Education instead of Pregnancy for example!) or click on threads that are relevant to my life now (pensions anyone?). I love the wide range of life experiences shared in general Chat and even AIBU.

I still remember my first thread when I was pregnant with DD2. Her nuchal scan showed a high risk of Down's and a friend suggested I hop onto Mumsnet for some advice. I was absolutely blown away by the kindness and support I received.

I know some topics can get a bit heated but I do hope newbies today get similarly warm reception.

How long have you been knocking around?

  1. and 2 months.

I found MN when googling for an answer on something - don't know what now. I found I was able to read the whole thread and not just the reply that had featured on Google. Then found I could read other threads without having to join / log in.

Joined so I could log in and reply on a thread - no idea which one it was now.

Still finding my way around, I either read the updates via ' my notifications ' or the ' last hour ' at the top or bottom of the page. Which means there are some threads I haven't / won't come across.

Haven't figured out how to placemark ? a thread. I have found how to reply to someone - as a poster told me how to. I have figured out how to use bold and how to underline.

So still very much finding my way around, some threads are very, very sad and a few threads change from the first comment i.e. the penis portions one.

Finally having a baby has changed so much in the many years since i had one :)

Hmm... yanbu.

Also, I'm sure I'm not the only one who gives dh the "daily mumsnet digest". A combination of useful insight about kids our age... interesting aibus... mumsnetters' take on the news of the day... screenshots of the funniest puns or misunderstandings... he genuinely loves it and asks if I forget to do it. I think this makes dh a MNer without a username

Me too! I think it was spotting after sex in early pregnancy. MN threads said usually normal and it'd be fine and not to panic... it was fine! Thanks mumsnet, as ever

38 and joined in 2008

My dh often asks 'what would MN say' when we have a problem or dilemma, about anything from parenting to pest control.

I’m 46 and I’ve been here since the birth of my DC2 which was 15 years ago (nearly 16).

Sgtmajormummy · 08/02/2024 14:09

I’m 56. I joined MN in 2008 (?) and lurked for a long time. Only one user name in all that time.
The Elderly Korean Lady thread inspired me to start posting.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 08/02/2024 14:11

53 and have been on mumsnet around 14 years I think. Came for parenting advice but stayed mainly for the entertaining parking threads and campsite and holiday recommendations.

BertieBotts · 08/02/2024 14:17

35 and 15 years.

I felt very young on MN when I joined. I actually think the demographic has got slightly younger. 15 years ago it tended to attract mums/mums-to-be (and a few not-mums) with a higher than average level of education, which meant that they tended to be 30+ and a lot of 40+ because higher educated people on average have children later in life. There has also always been a range of ages of children of the parents on this site. A lot of parenting sites are concentrated on the pregnancy/baby/toddler years and as children go to school and parents don't need as much intense support they leave the site. But MN has always been different and had so much interesting discussion outside of that intense parenting period that it seems it has continued on.
