How old are you and how long have you been on Mumsnet?

I'll start... I'm 51 and I've been here 15 years.

I was thinking recently that Mumsnet has got older but maybe that's because I hang about in different corners (Higher Education instead of Pregnancy for example!) or click on threads that are relevant to my life now (pensions anyone?). I love the wide range of life experiences shared in general Chat and even AIBU.

I still remember my first thread when I was pregnant with DD2. Her nuchal scan showed a high risk of Down's and a friend suggested I hop onto Mumsnet for some advice. I was absolutely blown away by the kindness and support I received.

I know some topics can get a bit heated but I do hope newbies today get similarly warm reception.

How long have you been knocking around?

Blimey ive jusy realised 2004 is 20 years ago!! 20 years .... id just relocated amd was feeling a bit lonely with my then 2 and 4yo.
Ive left and rejoined after the username/pw hack and had a fair few name changes prior to that and since.
Ive seen a fair few things on here. Some very moving sad things and some hilarious Stuff, some.of which is in classics!

44 years old. I’ve been herev5 years. Followed one of those ridiculous Daily Mirror articles about Mumsnet, and stayed for the AIBU and Relationship boards. Got some great support when going through separation.

The knowledge, experience, empathy and support I’ve received here has been unparalleled on the internet for me. Thank you vipers!

Good substitute family feeling… I love the maternal vibe from some of our more mature kinder posters.

Hi , have you name changed?

Yes many times. I just know your username and not totally sure if we've ever commented on the same things. Very long time ago!

I don't think I'd want to search myself on here, for fear of being reminded of some of the shite I've been through.

It's so nice to see posts on this thread of those who've also been on here bloody ages!

Fucking hell were the new moldies!

blackheartsgirl · 09/02/2024 08:36

Hi!

I first tried about 10 years ago when my eldest was small but I struggled a lot with my reading and writing then and felt to intimated to talk really, but I'm sure had I explained in my post that I was limited they'd have not been unkind.

I've got much more confident with my reading and writing skills over the last 5 or so years, so I've popped back and I love it now.

I like seeing users names I recognise come up in threads and feel happy I know of them, even if I don't ever chat directly to them I see them as very sensible and kind to others which I appreciate.

I enjoy mumsnet because its absolutely packed with women I'd never have the opportunity to converse with in real life.

I disagree unfortunately.

I've been here 13 years and some posters would viciously attack those with less than perfect SPAG.

It's definitely improved over recent years though, and MNHQ seem to have cracked down on that sort of thing, in favour of inclusivity.

Long may it continue 👍

How did the meet ups work? Was it more of a friendship/ companionship type forum? I’ve only been here a few years maybe 5. Not had any proper interactions. A lot of time people seem quite intimidating but in real life probably really different.
