Things you still do as an adult

what do you do as an adult, that you shouldn’t really still do?

I (30F) still sick my thumb. 2 young kids and a decent job.

I don’t do it in the day, just at night. Didn’t really think anything of it until my daughter shoved my own thumb back in my mouth whilst she was in bed with us the other night.

I still say a quiet a hello to my old stuff toys when I open the cupboard of old things at my parents

Love this!

OldTinHat · 08/02/2024 09:37

Say 'oooh, a nee nor' out loud whenever I see the emergency services. Only when I'm on my own though!

BouleDeSuif · 08/02/2024 09:38

Still read my Bunty and Judy and Diana annuals.

HumerusandClavickle · 08/02/2024 09:38

I have a nighttime “blankie”

(Can’t believe I am admitting this on here. It’s a really warm knobbly but so confortable fleece thing from Amazon as my childhood one didn’t survive. I love it! Our house is old and freezing and it takes the chill off the shoulders!)

Drink squash (Ribena) instead of tea or coffee 😳

There was an advert on the radio recently about “things that annoy you” and they said “adults who drink squash - come on, you’re a grown adult!”. Made me a bit sad.

Me and DP go through gallons of squash! I can't drink coffee all day and it's better than pop.

HumerusandClavickle · 08/02/2024 09:39

Forgot to say that I love making sand castles and snowmen.

Boogiebadass · 08/02/2024 09:41

grab dh and say pinch, punch first day of the month without fail each month

BogRollBOGOF · 08/02/2024 09:41

Another who chats to cuddly toys.

My Little Pony have relaunched their original range. I have been known to stand in the toy shop lusting after them and reminiscing.

I'm pretty partial to a playground when no one is looking!
Well, family is allowed to look. Just not disapproving strangers.

Boogiebadass · 08/02/2024 09:42

Also, feel bad for toys when my kids chuck them around and still feel like they could come alive at night like toy story 😂

Say "I know you are but what am I"

I still "your mum" my husband and sometimes my brother.

It doesn't even mean anything!

KeepSmiling89 · 08/02/2024 09:43

@Trynato Neopets still exists?!?! rushes off to sign up for an account

@Margotandgerry Yayy!! I'm not alone in this! It's the BEST way to eat a Tunnocks tea cake...not ashamed to do it.

I save the crisps with most flavour on them for last then lick off the flavour before eating the whole crisp. I also don't lick the flavour off my fingers until I've finished the bag and my fingers are just flavoury goodness! Cheesy and Chilli Heatwave Doritos are the best ones for this!

GettingStuffed · 08/02/2024 09:44

Kick through leaves in autumn, I also drink squash, not every glass of water though, and hot ribena is my current go to if I want to snack by the time I've made it and drunk it the urge to eat is over.

I say "that's what she/he said" to one of my best friends - we both get a good laugh out of it!

CrazyBaubles · 08/02/2024 09:46

While my bedroom is clean and tidy, my side of the bed is the same as it was when I was a teen Blush

I say hello to dogs, cats, birds and bugs. I spend a lot of the summer rescuing bees and butterflies from the conservatory and I tell them what I'm doing and/or compliment them while I'm doing it. DH thinks it's bonkers.

Nieces and nephews love me looking after them because I join in the silly dances (current favourite is essentially us all wobbling around as though we don't have bones), I will get on a swing or the slide in the park and I get extra points for my Disney and superhero knowledge.

Privately, I still really enjoy Christmas in a childish way. Even though I know I do most of the work preparing for the day, I still like to pretend Santa has been when I get up on Christmas morning.
Love smart plugs that makes this easier because DH can now make sure music is playing and the lights are on before we walk through the door Xmas Smile

I tell the DCs off for being mean or rough to their cuddly toys. Sometimes they do it just to wind me up.

DS1 has a special cuddly toy that he loves and when I drop him off in the morning, he leaves the toy in the car, and I'll have chats with him through the day until we pick his boy up. DS is a teenager.

phallusfallacy · 08/02/2024 09:50

I sleep with a teddy and have a blankie. I'm in my 40s but definitely not a grown up

I have to put Hula Hoops on my fingers before I eat them.

I do this. I also take square liquorice allsorts to pieces with my tongue and eat the different layers one at a time.

Jump in puddles when I have my wellies on
Squelch through the squelchiest mud when I have my wellies on
Make snow angels when it snows
Kick through piles of swept up leaves in the Autumn
Take a little run with the shopping trolley if the aisle is every empty, then ride on the handle Blush

This is me - so much fun

AngelinaFibres · 08/02/2024 09:53

I jump out on my husband with Ninja arms and a loud "Wataaaaa" every now and then. Like Kato in the Peter Sellers films. We've been together 22 years. Still makes us laugh.

MissingMoominMamma · 08/02/2024 09:54

I use the play equipment at school. I have been known to challenge children to a monkey bars race.

InMySpareTime · 08/02/2024 09:57

I love cracking the ice on frozen puddles.
I say "YAY!😁" when I see a rainbow.
When it snows I stick out my tongue to lick snowflakes.
I high five tree branches (even when people can see me).
When the car drives round a curve I lean exaggeratedly and say "wheeeeeeeeeeeee" until it straightens up again.
If someone drops a pea, I look shocked and accuse them of pea-ing on the floor/table/surface.
Any mention of pantomime must be met with some sort of "behind you" or "OH NO IT ISN'T!" type gag.
I always have stickers and chocolate coins in my bag in case someone needs cheering up. Adults or children (in fact, chocolate coins are more appreciated by adults as nobody else offers them)

And can I ask am I the only one, I'm 48 now and still waiting to feel like a proper adult ( like my mum and dad were)or is that just me?

Totally.

When I have ice cream, or anything with a yummy sauce, I lick the bowl. Only at home though. If I'm out I wipe up all the sauce with bread or my finger
DH chases sauce remnants round the bowl with his spoon like a grownup.

I'm a professional 40 year old woman and my side of the bedroom still looks like it would have done when I was a teenager. Piles of clothes, books, random crap discarded everywhere. I always assumed I'd be tidier when I grew up. Never happened.

Me too! It's depressing and I'm much older than you! 🙁
