Things you still do as an adult

what do you do as an adult, that you shouldn’t really still do?

I (30F) still sick my thumb. 2 young kids and a decent job.

I don’t do it in the day, just at night. Didn’t really think anything of it until my daughter shoved my own thumb back in my mouth whilst she was in bed with us the other night.

I drink squash. I don’t see this as childish or weird, and know plenty who do too, but then other people absolutely lose their minds at the thought of an adult buying squash for themselves. Maybe it’s like a marmite thing.

Also I will not let DC have squash until they are older. That stuff isn’t for kids… or is it?!? 🤪

Schoolrunmumbun · 08/02/2024 08:07

If a leaf is hanging over the path at the right height when no one is around, I give it a high 5.

IloveGogglebox · 08/02/2024 08:10

My Nan used to work in the Tetley tea factory and would bring home loads of bubble wrap. Now at 42 I hide it from the kids and sit and pop it all on my own just reminiscing. I love it.

Ah, thanks. I've still got a Gameboy with Tetris only, from the late 90s. Buttons don't work any more.

Hereyoume · 08/02/2024 08:15

This thread is EXACTLY what I needed to lift my mood this morning!

When it's raining and I walk past some railings, I stick my index finger out and run it quickly along the top of the railing so the little drops of water that have collected there all fly up into the air.

I do this even when people are around.

I've tried to stop myself from doing it but I can't.

ssd · 08/02/2024 08:18

You're all nuts

In a nice way 😁

PuttingDownRoots · 08/02/2024 08:51

I sometimes clean to disney/film songs. They are just so... jolly and motivational.

ChewbaccasMrs · 08/02/2024 09:05

I do zoomies in my wheelchair( I didn't become disabled till I was 32)and I have been known to have races with toddlers that are in their pushchairs(with their parents consent after a toddler has asked me to) and they of course always win 😁, I also make up random songs, start singing for no apparent reason out of nowhere,my poor poor DH 😂but I make him laugh and are 5DC and our DGS all think I'm hilarious so I won't be stopping anytime soon.

ChewbaccasMrs · 08/02/2024 09:07

And can I ask am I the only one, I'm 48 now and still waiting to feel like a proper adult ( like my mum and dad were)or is that just me?

DamasceneRose · 08/02/2024 01:29

Drink squash (Ribena) instead of tea or coffee 😳

There was an advert on the radio recently about “things that annoy you” and they said “adults who drink squash - come on, you’re a grown adult!”. Made me a bit sad.

That advert is awful- take no notice!!

I sleep with a stuffed horse. Not in an adult way, though!

Not in an adult way

🤣🤣🤣

Pisses me off too, so I stick my tongue out at it!!

shellyleppard · 08/02/2024 09:11

Kick through piles of leaves, sing along to the songs in the supermarket/shop...... rather loudly LoL jump scare my sons (now taller than me) 😂😂😂😂

FeltCarrot · 08/02/2024 09:13

Im 57.

Pancakedayisthebest · 08/02/2024 09:13

Say "I know you are but what am I"

Walking2024now33days · 08/02/2024 09:14

@ChewbaccasMrs

Quote function just stopped working 🙄

but I feel the same as you!!

I still hold out for being a 'real' adult and I'm 54!!🙄🙄

MissingMoominMamma · 08/02/2024 09:14

I don’t use my favourite mug every day because I feel sorry for the other mugs and I don’t want them to know they aren’t my favourites…

I sometimes make my ponytail swing on purpose

I like that, I wave my long hair when I turn around sometimes in my job

MalarkeyBollocks · 08/02/2024 09:18

Love a tall enough table to sit on and swing swoosh legs back and forwards … like being 6 again!

MissRheingold · 08/02/2024 09:19

I climb trees and I make little dams in streets or divert the water away it's sticks and mud etc.

LosGibertyisacelebration · 08/02/2024 09:20

This is my favourite thread ever! I do so many of these things! Eating chocolate off a crunchie, running up the stairs after turning off the light, I have a dream cast and a sega mega drive!

I'll add one I haven't seen yet, I still get RIDICULOUSLY excited over "childish" things, I wake up super early before holidays because I'm too excited to sleep and I barely sleep every Christmas Eve.

All those of you saying you only do these things when/if no one else is around, don't! Do them all the time, the world would be a better place if we all did some of these things in public all the time. If I see another grown ass person high fiving a leaf, I'm smiling all day Grin

LenaLamont · 08/02/2024 09:21

I talk to my old teddy and my children’s special stuffed toys as if they are people.

I have a go on the swings if no one is around.

cheshiregal31 · 08/02/2024 09:24

W0tnow · 08/02/2024 07:14

Eat the chocolate from around a crunchie. Only when alone.

I do this with a mars bar Grin

Margotandgerry · 08/02/2024 09:34

On the rare occasions I come across a chocolate teacake, I crack the chocolate topping first of all, which I eat before carefully peeling off the marshmallow layer to eat. Last of all, I eat the biscuit base. I would do this in the company of others, but always apologise in advance. I eat all other foods in a conventional way!

I'm a professional 40 year old woman and my side of the bedroom still looks like it would have done when I was a teenager. Piles of clothes, books, random crap discarded everywhere. I always assumed I'd be tidier when I grew up. Never happened.

Same! I tell the kids off for the state of their rooms...mines no better!!
