Messy house/garden pics

So its sort my dump/shithole/trampy house in and out day. I'm gonna sulk for about an hour then get started.

I have a carpet which i was going to use to put on top of my daughters carpet because I thought it might help with sound proofing the floor a bit if she had double carpet. But im not sure? So I Need to think about if I'm still doing that. Or of I'm bining it.

Also in a few weeks or so I was thinking about panelling my hall and stairs. So I would need to remove the end banister I guess I should do that this weekend so it cam go on the bin as well.

I'm really pissed of about that big white unit thing in the garden.

Also I have been a massive prick. I managed to stuff 2 sofas into the shed. Now I'm scared to get them out.

I also need to stop being a prick with the washing and My room . I keep nagging the kids whilst my room is a shit hole and I don't keep it tidy for more than a few days.

When your feelin down/depressed it can be really hard to stay on top of things I find the same. We've had an awful time lately illness/bereavement and the house looks awful I've got stuck in this week and my room was terrible on Monday by weds it's was neat and tidy, you just need to do one room at a time don't try doing more than one room at once it will be chaos! The garden can wait till after the house as you won't really be using it till the weather starts improving. The large items like your sofa could maybe be collected by the council when your ready our council does this I'm waiting for a collection at the moment. Just stick on some music and go for it, good luck!!

She has about a thread a week moaning about the state of her house, does a bit, goes away, and then comes back to moan again.
It would take so little time if she simply Got On With It, instead of looking for validation all the time.
Harsh? Maybe, but there really is only so much help and advice mners can give.

Yes. Harsh. Others often reply on the thread to say that she is motivating them to get on with jobs, or makes others feel at ease that they are not the only ones with a mess that feel overwhelming. If you’re not interested, move on to the next thread.

That's OK you don't need to understand what I get from them. You don't need to see or understand the progress I have made. Thanks to theses threads and the people posting .

But to be fair this this seens quite negative this morning for no real reason

Ignore the haters. If posting helps you motivate yourself then keep doing it. You do encourage others too by posting.

good luck with the sort out today!!💪

Ok im gonna step away from this thread for a bit. I'm only going to be replying to posts that are not nasty because there's no need for it.

Very wise to only take positive responses into account.

What helped me start to tackle the jobs that seemed so huge at the beginning was to make lists.
Seems such a simple thing but i bought a 'Mums lists' book from Home bargains and set about writing down all of the things that needed doing in the house. At the start these were wide ranging - tidy the garden/ clean utility room/ clear spare room .
Once i had identified areas i relisted them with specific tasks for the week. So then i had - put black bags with clothes from spare room into car boot,do Charity shop run, do tip run .Cross out anything completed. Anything not done got moved to the next week.

I now have more of a hold on things . Ive still a long way to go but if anyone comes round unexpectedly i dont have to close doors to hide the mess any more. And i have my list book to show just how much ive done in the past year. That is enough to keep me motivated. I can do this and so can you.

ForeveraBluebird · 27/01/2024 10:19

Spring is coming , always motivates me to have a sort out in the house and tidy the garden. You’ll get it all sorted Op , music on and abit at a time.

LIZS · 27/01/2024 10:27

Honestly you are both too hard on yourself and overly ambitious. It sets you up to fail and spiral. The fabric and decor of the house is fine. Focus on clearing the rubbish onto the hippo bag and then keeping it tidy and organised for a while before starting any new projects.

Yes I have done similar. I have laminated some team tomm pages . It does a kind of list of things to do and can tick it of as I go. My house it not that good at the moment. But I could let someone in with out worrying to much .

Well, tell you what. I actually like your threads because it helps me too. I'm very similar and it's nice to know I'm not alone. It spurs me on to do things with my house. I don't know if you were the poster about the boys bedroom? Well that helped motivate me to sort my boys rooms out.

I try to break it into chunks. Music on. Strong coffee. Regular sit downs.

For me it's the sheer amount, putting things away. Having a place for everything as my gran always said. Making time and not scrolling. Scrolling is where I go wrong.

Good luck getting something done today. I always start with a bit of putting things away. Phone gets hidden, otherwise time gets wasted.

I l know I do. It just how I think . My main focus is definitely getting the hippo bag filled this week end . 100% that has to be done .

The reason I mentioned about decorating and other bits like that is . 1) I would need to get rid of the 2nd banister so that would end up in the hippo bag.

  1. once I have done this hippo bag. The decorating/ little diy things feels like something positive to aim for that not about cleaning. That does not mean it's going to be done in the next week its just a focus sort of thing .

Wow some unnecessary negativity around here this morning!

If it helps you to post for motivation and accountability then go ahead OP. I haven’t posted on your previous threads but I have enjoyed seeing the results.

Grab your bin bag and stick a wash on and let us know later how you’ve got on!

In fact you’ve inspired me to go and do some decluttering myself.

RootVegAndMash · 27/01/2024 10:44

I honestly think it looks worse than it actually is op.

In the bedroom for instance, just shutting all the drawers and scraping everything on the floor into one area would take less than 5 minutes and make it look 1000% better. I know that's easier said than done though!

I would go area by area. Just work solidly on one area or room until it's finished.

And think about how you'll feel when it's done! 👏👏

treacledan71 · 27/01/2024 10:50

Check no holes in your shed as rats will love the moisture in there and the sofas.

mapleriver · 27/01/2024 10:56

I like threads like this, they're alot more comfy and mundane than all of the cheating and despair and illness and poverty on alot of other popular threads, wish we had more like this tbh.

I'm a weirdo and love putting laundry away, I'd have that blitzed so fast 😂Hate DIY though, still have half the landing painted from two weeks ago but always end up cleaning instead of finishing it.

Chaiandtoast · 27/01/2024 11:01

dont do this. It’s going to date so badly and fuck up your walls. And if your house is overly cluttered and every rooms a mess it’s not like it’s going to make you happy or look nice anyway.
You’re clearly an all or nothing person, which I can be too. But that’s not working. Just spend an hour declutterring your room. It doesn’t have to be a job where you sort the laundry, and the carpet, and the panelling and the shed and all the rubbish etc. And it’s like a weapon of torture and punishment for letting the house get like this.
Just do one hour.
then tomorrow do another hour.
on Monday do 30mins. Tuesday take a break. Wednesday do another 30. You’ll get there soon enough. This needs to be a lifestyle change, not one quick (definitely won’t be quick and you won’t finish) clean.

Thank you . Yes I'm the poster who done the boys room . And it's still tidy 😅. I'm really proud of them.

I know lots of people don't understand my threads and that's OK. What I do know is that .they have helped me alot. I have achieved alot . Might not look like it to some people who do not know/understand how deep this gos . Its never been "just" about cleaning and the house. But it has given me a positive focus and help me change my mind set and move on from some stuff.

I'm glad it helps you to. Anything that's helpful can only be a good thing . Good luck

Hello. I have not been following your threads. You speak very harshly about yourself. I hope I am not overstepping but do you think you could have ADHD or depression? I have great difficulty keeping a house tidy. There is actually something wrong with me but I don't know what. There is also this message that ability to keep tidy is a moral issue somehow.

Do you have a means of removing the items from the premises? You need to focus on getting things out and away as much as possible. If they only make it as far as the door they will stay there for months.

HighQueenOfTheFarRealm · 27/01/2024 11:13

I get it op - you want accountability as that's how you motivate yourself.

Don't worry about negative posts. I lurk on yours sometimes and always wish the best. I love seeing the 'after' pictures and always think how lovely it looks.
It makes such a difference so keep going.

I don't think I have depression. But I think I can get myself a bit depressed and put myself on a downer . Or possibly a form of depression because of stuff i have been through. I don't know... but I do know I can get out of it. Otherwise I could not do what I have been doing.

And yes I can get it out of the way. That why its my main focus get it out and gone

Where I live the council offer a service to pick big items up for a fee. Might be worth seeing if yours does the same?? Ignore the negative comments the fact you are sharing is amazing. I have no doubt you have inspired someone to day aswell.

Shithole101 · 27/01/2024 11:41

I'm sitting down again because feel a bit out of breath. But I have taken apart that big unit thing and put it in the skip bag and bagged up some general crap. I'm going to eat something quick as I feel a bit sick then do some more.

How I sorted a messy chest of drawers.

I bought some of those drawer organiser boxes from IKEA or somewhere similar.

In one I put knickers (folded!)

In another bras (folded)

in another socks ( paired and flat folded a la Marie Kondo)

in another vest tops ( rolled)
In another scarves/hats/gloves
etc
Then I decided which drawers these boxes were going in.

Sorted other clothes to go in the other drawers( for me this was t shirts/ thermals/ fleeces /pj). They are stored rolled not folded. Other clothes are hangered and hung in a wardrobe - buy those skinny hangers with the fleecy bits, you get far more in a wardrobe than using mis matched hangers.

Once you know where things go, and how to store them it makes it much easier to keep the drawer contents organised, and the drawers closed , and it takes only a couple of minutes to put clean stuff away. The boxes really do prevent stuff from spreading into a mixed mess.

(I use a similar system in my kitchen, I bought small pretty trays so that stuff like cooking oils, salt, pepper etc that are used all the time stay in one place and don’t wander about. I have one for condiments as above and one for tea/ coffee/ other hot drinks.)

Madamlulu · 27/01/2024 11:54

Listen to podcast 'a slob comes clean' and read/listen to her book 'declutter at the speed of life' they will REALLY help you.

Forget about double carpeting/panelling walls for now you need to focus on decluttering and getting what you have NOW in order. This is going to take you quite some time.
