TV shows as a child that freaked you out

Just thought I would start a threat for fun, I was trying to describe this particular show to my partner and he had no idea what I was talking about but after much researching I found out it was Wizbit, which was played by Paul Daniels. The yellow hat and the rabbit honestly freaked me out. For context I'm 33 so this was early 90s it must have been on..anyone got any shows that still give them the ick as an adult?

That awful bloody Hartley Hare and his revolting stumpy arms.

PotatoPrimo · 22/01/2024 21:40

Noseybonk. Utterly terrifying.

Dr Who, when the Daleks were able to climb stairs. Also Dr Who with Zoe Wannemaker as just a piece of stretched skin. So weird.

Worzel Gummidge gave me the creeps. I used to run out of the room when he started twisting his head off.

LutonBeds · 22/01/2024 21:43

I remember Wizbit! Think it was the early ‘80s.

I hated Emu for some reason and the end of Chock-a-Block when they turned the lights off - banging theme tune though!

CAB was a bit scary/creepy too, I remember one series being about a lady who disappeared from here antique shop then reappeared walking down a staircase that was inside a wardrobe.

Lizzie Dripping and the Witch. That witch was terrifying

WishesPromises · 22/01/2024 21:43

Rentaghost was pretty weird.

greengreengrass25 · 22/01/2024 21:43

Rupert the bear

Raggerty, it was horrible

Noseybonk. Utterly terrifying.

Was about to post exactly the same thing. Just imagine the pitch to children's TV producers for that character.

The Beverly hillbillies made me feel sick with fear as a kid.

EVHead · 22/01/2024 21:44

The opening credits and theme music for the were well freaky.

The scene in bedknobs and broomsticks where there is deep singing and the armour is walking across the field.

Jaws from James Bond.

The music to rhubarb and custard was very sinister.

greengreengrass25 · 22/01/2024 21:47

Fab music though

PauliesWalnuts · 22/01/2024 21:47

The witch and those spikey things from Chorlton and the Wheelies.

The Singing Ringing Tree - TV series from East Germany. I bought the DVD on a trip to Berlin a few years ago to see whether it was really as scary as I rembered - it was.

mikado1 · 22/01/2024 21:48

Hitchcock's Half Hour and Tales of the Unexpected ... freaky and intriguing at the same time!

TwoBlueFish · 22/01/2024 21:49

Mr Softee from the soft mint adverts, something about the way he moved really freaked me out.

DreamingInPhosphorescence · 22/01/2024 21:50

Rainbow. Every character was weird.

Shadowsindarkplaces · 22/01/2024 21:51

I'm watching old 60s stuff on Great TV. The Avengers is just plain weird. They were definitely smoking something weird! 🤣 As a child, Dr Who and Worzel Gummidge both gave me heebee geebees..😂

LutonBeds · 22/01/2024 21:51

I used to hate those public information adverts too; the escalator, power lines, spirit of dark and lonely water, Robbie….they worked though! Never forgot them and didn’t do anything dangerous as they petrified me. Loved Charly the cat though!

Shadowsindarkplaces · 22/01/2024 21:51

Just thought...Children of the Stones

Was about to post and say the same thing!

No idea how that fucking horror was allowed tbh...
