Is the Krakow to Leeds flight the one that was delayed from last night to early this morning? If it is, I feel extremely sorry for those poor people!

VesperLind · 22/01/2024 11:13

It’s still very windy here (LBA) this morning. Haven’t heard any planes yet but it does depend on which vector they are using as to how loud they are overhead.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 22/01/2024 11:16

I feel so sorry for the people who were on flights that didn’t need passports and ended up in France or Germany. A woman on the radio was just saying that of the people on the flight that ended up in France ones who had passports got hotels and the ones who don’t have been stuck in the terminal all night.

Does it count as going abroad if you've never been abroad and your internal flight gets diverted abroad but you aren't allowed to leave the terminal?

Yes.
the Ryanair folks who ended up in Cologne would have been in a better place because Ryanair insists on passports for Uk/Ireland flights even though it’s not a legal requirement

perhaps in case of this exact scenario.

Cologne is a Ryanair base which is why a bunch went there. As is CDG for Easyjet.

SurreyMumOfOne · 22/01/2024 11:30

Further North, a Loganair flight Edinburgh - Kirkwall did a few stacks and is heading south again. They've passed Inverness, so I guess back to Edinburgh. Other smaller aircraft are coming and goign from Kirkwall, so I'd be curious to know the reason. It's LM391.

I’d count it as abroad. You’re still on foreign soil!

Is this a coastguard helicopter? It's been hovering in the same spot over the sea for quite some time now.

No, it belongs to Nordzee Helicopters Vlaanderen which has a base at Blackpool.

According to the NHV Group website thd bade provides "passenger transfer services in support of their client's East Irish Sea operations "

Two hours for these guys to go from Edinburgh to Glasgow and not get to Kirkwall

Looks like after midnight tonight the weather is dying down a lot here. Hopefully that makes it better for LBA tonight.

QueenOfThorns · 22/01/2024 12:26

Ryanair from Malaga just gave up on approach to LBA. It didn’t get below 7000 ft, so the crosswinds must just be too much at the minute. Wonder where they’ll go now?

RampantIvy · 22/01/2024 12:32

I saw it fly straight past. Manchester maybe?

SurreyMumOfOne · 22/01/2024 12:39

Yes, still a bad day at Leeds. One departure, no arrivals. Looks like Manchester for that Ryanair flight.

QueenOfThorns · 22/01/2024 12:43

Yes, they’re just lining up to go over the end of our garden! I’ll give them a wave shortly.

At least they’re not going to Cologne, but I don’t fancy the M62 today!

I don’t fancy the M62 on ANY day, worst motorway ever. And look where it goes. Yes, that’s right, the dark side. Hahahaha. Just kidding, red rosers.

RampantIvy · 22/01/2024 12:49

It's landed at Manchester. I see that the airport hasn't updated its arrivals page, nor has Flight Radar updated the diversion. Spoke tto soon. FR has updated.

Stringagal · 22/01/2024 12:54

Just seen the 6am Leeds to Riga flight has been delayed until 8pm. Jeez, hope those passengers aren’t air side and can at least get out for some fresh air and decent food.

AngryMoan · 22/01/2024 13:03

This little plane has just failed its second landing at Exeter.

[lunch break]

That aircraft belongs to one of the flying schools (Leading Edge Aviation) that trains pilots who are enroute to the airlines.

It looks to me very much like it's involved instrument flying training, rather than there being a weather problem.

FWIW the trace just happens to nicely show what a good old fashioned manually flown holding pattern can look like, nothing like the nice precise ovals you almost always get when airliners trundle round the hold referencing GPS.

Checking out the Russians?

Stringagal · 22/01/2024 13:22

KLM flight from Dam due in a few minutes. Will it make it to Leeds?

Stringagal · 22/01/2024 13:31

Yes, she’s down, and only 4 minutes later than scheduled. Well done KLM!! Doing a little dance.

SudokuMania · 22/01/2024 13:32

I thought planes were avoiding Russian airspace - has that changed? Does it depend on what altitude they're at?
