That's not a coffee or carrot cake as I make those quite a lot. Bit bored of chocolate. Fancy making something a bit different on Sunday as I have a whole day to myself child free. Any ideas?

Open to other things too that aren't cake. Brownies for example. Just fancy making something delicious!

Victoria sponge

sciencemama · 19/01/2024 21:51

Lemon drizzle or ginger cake here!
Make some jam tarts because why not

GotMooMilk · 19/01/2024 21:51

Battenburg! Appreciate it would be a PITA to make but it’s my fave !

Mrsjayy · 19/01/2024 21:52

I love millionaire shortbread or caramel shortbread whichever name you prefer its easier to eat than a cake cake .

2chocolateoranges · 19/01/2024 21:52

Victoria sponge is my favourite!

i love Costcos Victoria sponge, it’s delicious.

Porageeater · 19/01/2024 21:52

Victoria sponge or Black Forest gateau. I’m old school

Babyroobs · 19/01/2024 21:52

Lemon drizzle.

Mrsjayy · 19/01/2024 21:52

oh I do love gingerbread too.

RandomMess · 19/01/2024 21:52

I was going to say Battenberg as DH doesn't like it so it lasts longer but realise that isn't the point.

Raspberry and white chocolate blondies!

ilovethecoldsideofapillow · 19/01/2024 21:53

Another one for Black Forest gateau! But do love a lemon drizzle

MonsteraMama · 19/01/2024 21:53

Battenberg is my biggest weakness. Fun to make too, if a bit fiddly. I like doing all different coloured and flavoured mini ones.

Blomdd · 19/01/2024 21:54

Blondies are the front runner so far!

I will have a red velvet cake please - thank you very much. I will DM you my address. Thanks!! 😁

Myhubbyisasweetheart · 19/01/2024 21:55

Something with rose icing, or orange and cranberry cake.

TempleOfBloom · 19/01/2024 21:55

Parkin! A good sticky ginger Parkin!

TheChosenTwo · 19/01/2024 21:57

Blackforest cake is one of my faves, dd makes me one on my birthday.
malteser cake is really tasty and lasts a few days if it’s not all eaten on the same day.
i like making millionaires shortbread, it’s really easy but time consuming as you have to wait for the layers to properly cool.
Guinness cake is also good with the cream cheese frosting 😋

Northernsouloldies · 19/01/2024 21:59

Iced ginger cake. Mmmmmm.

INeedNewShoes · 19/01/2024 22:04

Pear and ginger cake

Or a bit more faff and maybe a bit too summery: Raspberry and marscapone layer cake

DoughnutB · 19/01/2024 22:04

victoria sponge
or marble cake

minipie · 19/01/2024 22:04

Big recommendation for Nigel Slater’s double ginger cake. It does require ginger in syrup, as well as ground ginger. So easy and delicious and lasts well.

Or anything with the lemon cream cheese frosting from Sally’s baking addiction. I don’t really like icing but couldn’t stop eating this.

Mumaway · 19/01/2024 22:05

Cinnamon apple

minipie · 19/01/2024 22:06

Cinnamon apple

Ooh yum, do you have a recommended recipe?

CurlewKate · 19/01/2024 22:09

I made Nadiya Hussein's cardamom cake today. The first time I've ever made a fatless sponge. It was a bit dry (I think I overbaked it) but it tastes amazing. I halved the recipe
