Do you wash your hands after a wee in the night?

It’s the middle of the night and you’re up for a wee. (Assume you’ve just dabbed yourself dry with loo roll, no other bodily fluids present!) Do you do a full 30 second soap and water hand wash vs after? A quick water-only rinse, and pat dry? Not wash at all and go straight back to bed? Something else completely?

I’ve often wondered what others do but too afraid to ask in real life 🫢

No - I just go straight back to bed. Always shower first thing though.

zeddybrek · 15/01/2024 22:06

No, but wash hands after first morning wee so haven't really touched anything. Well, that's what I tell myself. It's gross but it would wake me up too much and I'll never go back to sleep!

Hermittrismegistus · 15/01/2024 22:06

I don’t touch the lid, it’s always up, the seat is always down

Wow. I had no idea people dont shut the lid before every flush.

Are you not worried about toilet germs spraying about your bathroom?

No and I also suck my thumb. My body, my germs. The dog licks her fanny on my bed, the other dog sometimes has a lick of it too. They sometimes lick my hand. I like germs.

😂

Delatron · 15/01/2024 22:07

Yeah I think I don’t mind my own germs. I’m obsessive about hand washing in public and when I come back in. Don’t want other people’s germs. The tiny amount I may get from the toilet roll in the middle of the night I’m at peace with…

Waitingfor5pm · 15/01/2024 22:07

Not just for a wee, no

beachyheadd · 15/01/2024 22:07

I honestly don’t wash my hands after most of my wees, assuming hands havent got wee on them etc (which most of the time they don’t!) I’m not that arsed if it’s grim, I’m convinced way more people do similar than they admit, haha. Anyway there’s way more germs on a keyboard or on your phone, it’s fineeee

😂 I bet you have an amazing immune system.

Mielbee · 15/01/2024 22:08

Wash my hands properly. Bacteria don't go to bed at night!

I hope the non washers aren't having sex after

Do you understand what sex is?

😂

Byeckythump · 15/01/2024 22:08

Water rinse and dry here

Thecatmaster · 15/01/2024 22:08

Wot?? There are actually people here who don't wash their hands after going to the toilet? What does it matter whether it is day or night? You're still touching all the same stuff whether the stars are out or not!

Selenitetower · 15/01/2024 22:09

Helloandgoodmorning2 · 15/01/2024 21:57

No, and I don’t flush. I go about 4 times at night and am asleep again in seconds! My husband doesn’t even get out of bed to wee at night and certainly doesn’t wash his hands (work that one out 😱) We don’t have a disease ridden bed or a skin complaint either.

I assume he has a urine bottle next to his bed to go in?

TempyBrennan · 15/01/2024 22:09

Nah.

frazzled22 · 15/01/2024 22:09

ApolloandDaphne · 15/01/2024 21:46

Nah. Quick wee, right back to bed. No flushing and no hand washing. Then when I wee before I get up I wash my hands thoroughly.

You wee before you get up?! Shock

Same people who probably thought sperm goes to sleep at night and got pregnant thinking it wasn't a risk that way

CastIronKiller · 15/01/2024 22:09

Fuck that. I feel my way to the loo and back like I'm blind so it's easier for me to get back to sleep.

blackpanth · 15/01/2024 22:09

KateyCuckoo · 15/01/2024 21:49

Yes because I suck my thumb!

Same

RedMinnie · 15/01/2024 22:09

By the time I’ve made it to the toilet, I’m no longer half asleep so why wouldn’t I wash my hands? Madness

Sodie · 15/01/2024 22:10

Always

holdoutaline · 15/01/2024 22:10

I brush my teeth again too before going back to bed. Not a proper brush, just a once over

Don't feel fresh otherwise! Lifetime habit for as long as I can remember

EwwSprouts · 15/01/2024 22:10

Flush & wash hands. Even half asleep it's just automatic. It would take more deliberate thinking to not do it.

ExpectantEs · 15/01/2024 22:10

No I don't - just go back to sleep

MajesticWhine · 15/01/2024 22:10

I'm in the compromise camp. Just a very quick rinse with water for me.
Very funny and typical mumsnet thread. It's a miracle we are all alive with such unsanitary behaviour.
