Do you wash your hands after a wee in the night?

It’s the middle of the night and you’re up for a wee. (Assume you’ve just dabbed yourself dry with loo roll, no other bodily fluids present!) Do you do a full 30 second soap and water hand wash vs after? A quick water-only rinse, and pat dry? Not wash at all and go straight back to bed? Something else completely?

I’ve often wondered what others do but too afraid to ask in real life 🫢

Are the people who wash their hands and are sickened by those who don't, also getting out of bed straight after sex to wash their hands?

I do.

Thecatmaster · 15/01/2024 22:17

I don't understand why, if it's perfectly fine not to wash your hands during the night, people then go on to say that they wash them first thing in the morning when they get up, as a demonstration of hygiene. There's absolutely no logic to it!

amberisola · 15/01/2024 22:18

Very funny thread! I get up multiple times to pee at night, I wash my hands if I'm already fairly awake, I don't if I'm basically sleepwalking. I don't think it matters much though if it's just a quick pee in your en suite!

I do.

Absolutely!! But not until I've had a good wipe and cleaned up below deck first.

Yes I thought the same.

@Comedycook Erm,(whispers quietly) guilty as charged, I cant cope with desiccated bodily fluids on my hands in the morning 😳

Maria1982 · 15/01/2024 22:20

Rinse but no soap…. Sleepy , and don’t want to dry my hands out after having moisturised.
feel guilty but see I’m not alone !

Doremisofarsogood · 15/01/2024 22:20

No lights, no flush and no taps. DH is the same.
The cat sleeps on our bed and licks her arse and later licks us. One big happy family!

Starseeking · 15/01/2024 22:20

I always do.

I have a relative who only ever washes his hands after the loo when he thinks no-one will notice, which makes me feel sick as he also splashes wee on the seat and leaves it there 🤮🤮🤮

PriOn1 · 15/01/2024 22:21

I wash with soap and water as I’m conditioned to do that and would find it hard to sleep because my brain would be telling me my hands are dirty. Not so thorough at three am as during the day though. Logically it’s crazy as there’s only me living here, so I’m unlikely to pick anything up from myself!

BoobyDazzler · 15/01/2024 22:22

No. I don’t flush the toilet either.

The logic is that after the morning wee they will flush so having touched a germy handle they will want to wash their hands and are not trying to stay asleep.

That’s different- if I was sharing a bathroom with relatives I’d wash every time. I’m basically concerned about other people’s germs. Nobody else uses my en-suite.

ApolloandDaphne · 15/01/2024 21:46

Nah. Quick wee, right back to bed. No flushing and no hand washing. Then when I wee before I get up I wash my hands thoroughly.

"Then when I wee before I get up I wash my hands thoroughly."

And the sheets I hope?

MirandaWest · 15/01/2024 22:23

I don’t wash my hands if I have a wee at night.

Starseeking · 15/01/2024 22:23

MysweetAudrina · 15/01/2024 22:05

No and I also suck my thumb. My body, my germs. The dog licks her fanny on my bed, the other dog sometimes has a lick of it too. They sometimes lick my hand. I like germs.

Reading quickly, I thought you'd said something else there at first 😳🤣😬

katepilar · 15/01/2024 22:23

No handwashing at night. The sink is in another room but dont think I would rinse my hand even if it was in the same room and I didnt have the light on. If I was sharing a bed I might do it differently.

I can’t believe how many people don’t wash their hands! This confirms for me that people are always dirtier than I expect them to be.

I know! I am genuinely shocked and MN has made my tolerance for that pretty high. 😂

Inastatus · 15/01/2024 22:24

Nope! Quick wee, quick dab with toilet roll so not actually touching fanjo with bare hands, don’t flush, straight back to bed.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 15/01/2024 22:24

Yes

Haha yes, a half awake hand job because you can't be arsed for a shag. Do you leap out of bed after to wash your hands?

Or when you have an intimate itch in the night? Do you you wash your hands after, or just fuck of back to sleep?

Thecatmaster · 15/01/2024 22:25

Incidentally, it makes absolutely no difference to hygiene whether you use hot or cold water. Hot water would have to be boiling to kill germs. Germs thrive less in cold than warmer places (although the difference is negligible with regards to clean running water). Warm water doesn't produce more suds either. There's been some good recent scientific studies on this. Clean running water of any temperature and soap are all that are required. Switzerland discourages the use of warm water for environmental reasons.

I hope the non washers aren't having sex after

Do you understand what sex is?

Snort!

I don't wash my hands either. The only thing I've touched is my own toilet paper. Don't think it will kill me or anyone else.

whynotwhatknot · 15/01/2024 22:27
