I usually like the gastro ones from McCain's but they are quite pricey

On the hunt for some alternatives for a cheeky mid week easy dinner

Aldi do crinkle cut ones with a kind of herby coating that are nice.

DelilahBucket · 13/01/2024 19:50

M&S do nice frozen fries. Not tried the frozen chips.

truckcarlorry · 13/01/2024 19:52

Yes M&S do lovely triple cooked ones but they are about £3.50 a bag and the bag is tiny!

The M&S triple cooked frozen ones are lovely plus being gf which is always a bonus - I doubt they are much cheaper than McCains though .

Mynewnameis · 13/01/2024 19:52

I like the tesco homestyle ones. Kids like the fries which have the advantage of being quick.

New2024 · 13/01/2024 19:53

I just chip the potatoes, par boil for 2 mins, put them on a lightly oiled tray at 6 for 40 mins

Devilsmommy · 13/01/2024 19:53

Morrisons sweet potato wedges, can't beat them😁

BrennieGirl · 13/01/2024 19:55

M&S french fries are the only ones I buy.

MissHoollie · 13/01/2024 19:56

Aldi beef dripping are lovely
Or McCain French fries

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 13/01/2024 19:56

They aren't especially cheap - £3 or so for a bag - but we all absolutely love the Sainsbury's triple-cooked in beef dripping chips. We've tried quite a few alternatives and none of us think that any of the others can hold the faintest candle to these ones.

Skin on fries, any of the McCain, Asda, Aldi, Lidl etc ones are all really good imo

Congratulations! 😄

lavenderphase · 13/01/2024 20:02

I like the Gastro ones but they're so expensive. We usually get whatever is on offer which is home fries at the moment.

Mossstitch · 13/01/2024 20:07

Another vote for M & S French fries which I've recently discovered but their homestyle ones are good too for when you want traditional fat chips😋

BugsyDrakeTableScape · 13/01/2024 20:11

The Lidl triple cooked chips are the best

Good for you but OP wasn't asking for recipes. Many of us are looking for a quicker option.

Jijithecat · 13/01/2024 20:17

I like the Mccain Home Chips, but it has to be the crinkle cut.

Multipleexclamationmarks · 13/01/2024 20:18

McCains home fries but I do them in the air fryer with a spoon full of oil.

Are they nice though? Have you tried others to compare. That is the question

You can make chips from potatoes? Wow 😮 I am gobsmacked. Who knew 🤷🏻‍♀️

AceofPentacles · 13/01/2024 21:20

Proper Chips (that's the brand)

Solongtoshort · 13/01/2024 21:41

Home bargains do a bag with frozen chips with skin on, in a blue bag possibly aunt Bessie’s or Andrew Barlett and l am sure the are about £2.50. They are so nice.

TheTecknician · 13/01/2024 22:35

Albert Bartlett are good, if you can find them. Otherwise I'm happy with McCain or Aunt Bessie.

CheesecakeandCrackers · 13/01/2024 22:36

We've recently had a lovely bag from aldi. Chucked the bag before I realised how nice they were so I hope I find them again!

Teen DS eats chips daily, worked in a chip shop too, prefers Sainsb. steak cut.
