I usually like the gastro ones from McCain's but they are quite pricey

On the hunt for some alternatives for a cheeky mid week easy dinner

Another vote for skin on fries from the freezer. I've only tried Aldi and Morrison's. Both are really good.

mrsbyers · 13/01/2024 22:46

Yellow bag skin on fries from Aldi , just went today to stock up on them

Fifiellz · 13/01/2024 22:59

These are the best I have ever tasted.

Failing that McCain Gastro or M&S triple fried

Home bargains do a bag with frozen chips with skin on, in a blue bag possibly aunt Bessie’s or Andrew Barlett and l am sure the are about £2.50. They are so nice.

Your home bargains sells frozen food?!?

Yes M&S do lovely triple cooked ones but they are about £3.50 a bag and the bag is tiny!

I rather like their chunky chips, which are better value. I pulled a bag out of the freezer, thinking I'd grabbed some of those, earlier. But it turned out to be the crinkle cut. They were still good, though - nice tasty potato.

The strong roots fries are rather good but quite pricey so I only buy them on offer.

Pigeonqueen · 13/01/2024 23:03

I think most of them can be improved by whacking the oven up really high to pre heat the baking tray with some oil in it, then after 10 mins throwing the chips in and so they sizzle as you give them a shove about and then cook them.

Albert Bartlett by far!!

Gooseysgirl · 13/01/2024 23:44

Our current favourite is Sainsbury’s skin on chips chips link

Thislittlekitten · 13/01/2024 23:45

Aldi beef dripping ones are superb! Those and the m and s triple cooked one’s oven cook the best though aldi are cheaper.

My home bargains has a small frozen section too. Plus fresh food. Not tried any of their stuff though

RipePeach · 13/01/2024 23:48

Another vote for Aldi Skin On Fries - they are a favourite in this house!

UsernameChangerRanger · 13/01/2024 23:50

Albert Bartlett. I've tried some of the ones recommended on this thread and they taste of chemicals.

NoKateMoss · 13/01/2024 23:50

And another for Aldi Skin On Fries. They're really good.

Albert Bartlett by far!!

I usually like them but they've been a bit sour with a lot of black ones, this year. I've had the same issue with Maris Piper spuds. Probably all the wet weather.

LuluBlakey1 · 13/01/2024 23:57

I bought some from the chilled section at Morrisons, not their make, in a thin beer batter- they are the best chips I have ever had. Don't taste like they are in batter. Just crunchy on the outside. DH pronounced them 'better than my grandma's chips' which is the highest praise.

Oh this is them! Yes, they are the best.Mash Direct. I think they are from Northern Ireland.

mrsbyers · 14/01/2024 00:34

We don’t have Albert Bartlett products any more since we discovered the links to fox hunting

The Lidl triple cooked chips are the best

Love 😘 these

2024GarlicCloves · 14/01/2024 00:40

I buy the big bags of McCain Home Chips when they're on offer - which is nearly always. Currently £3.50 for 1.6kg at Morrisons; next week it'll be Tesco or Sainsbury's. Aldi's swanky chips are even cheaper, though.

Agreeing with all the love for triple-cooked, dripping-cooked, and skin-on oven chips, as well. Actually ... I just love potatoes 😂 With or without rice flour & the other stuff in oven chips: spuds are GOOD!

Yep. Always a catch.

Iceland Ridiculously Crispy Skin on Fries (blue bag).

SagaNorensPorche · 14/01/2024 11:51

McCain Skin on Fries for us. The chips are actually chip sized and not full of the awful potato end bits. Cook nicely in the air fryer too.

MaidOfSteel · 14/01/2024 11:53

Aldi do some lovely chunky chips. Crisp on the outside, light & fluffy on the inside.

Oldraver · 14/01/2024 11:59

Aldi skin on fries. Come up nice in the air fryer as well

Toddlerteaplease · 14/01/2024 12:11

Lidl triple cooked beef dripping.
