How do you get thinner poos?!!

Just NC'd obviously, but am not the poo troll honest.

I 'struggle' with bigger poos, like 3cm diameter, occasionally bigger. However they are really soft and healthy looking. I am never ever constipated and never push even a tiny bit - they just fall out. But they are aggravating the grade 1 haemorrhoids I got from pregnancy so I'd like them to be thinner to give the haemorrhoids a chance to heal properly.

So what foods can give me thinner poos?! Google only says that insoluble fibre gives you fatter poos, but I don't overeat that really.

In brief, I eat two portions of carbs a day, usually white rice, homemade white bread,.or potato. I eat meat, full fat dairy, nuts, veg, fruit, chocolate and home baking. Copious water and tea. A bottle of wine spread over a weekend.

TIA!

You need to make sure they're very soft so cut out the white rice and bread and eat more veg.

Yougetmoreofwhatyoufocuson · 08/01/2024 18:58

Google 28g of fibre and work from there. Also drink plenty, eat an orange a day. Ditto above, ditch the white carbs.

Missing the point of your post, but it's concerning that poo is just falling out of your arse.

3cm diameter? That’s really small already! Do you really think a 3cm diameter poo is a b8g one?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/01/2024 19:20

Do you mean 3 inches?

Egglett · 08/01/2024 19:20

Insoluble fibre is definitely not the answer. Plenty of studies have shown that this makes poo bigger.
Soluble fibre may help, but I already eat around 8 portions of fruit and veg a day. Should I eat more?
They are very soft already (any softer and they wouldn't be formed I don't think).
I drink around 2 litres of water and 1 litre of tea. I've experimented with adding another litre of water but it makes no difference.

You seem very poo focused. If this is genuine, just aim to soften your stool. I'm not sure you can do anything to make it a specific measurement. Fibre, plenty of fluids, a stool softener if you need one.

Fresh apricots are the best.

Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 08/01/2024 19:26

Flax seed will make it slippery 😁

Edited

I have no idea what other people's poo sizes are so I don't know! 😆 Is 3cm diameter normal then?
It doesn't really matter what's normal though to be honest. 3cm is too big for me at the moment until the haemorrhoids go away properly.

Erm… I mean, your poos don’t sound that big, but you could always try prune juice or a mild laxative. I don’t think any food is going to help you pass spaghetti poos.

Egglett · 08/01/2024 19:28

Sometimes they are smaller diameter, but I don't know what causes this. I just thought other people might know.

You could always get diverticular disease which would narrow your bowel but I wouldn't recommend it. I'm a bit jealous actually.

ironorchids · 08/01/2024 19:30

How long since you gave birth? For the first week or so the doctor gave me laxatives just as a preventative, but it's probably best to speak to your GP before taking anything like that for more than a day or so and be under medical supervision.

Can you go on a spinach soup diet for a week or so to try and give some relief to the haemorrhoids?

whatausername · 08/01/2024 19:31

How do you know the size?! Spaghetti measurer?

Orlistat2024 · 08/01/2024 19:32

Get some suppositories and treat the hemorrhoids. Nuts always make mine worse so when mine are playing up I avoid nuts too.

MargotMoon · 08/01/2024 19:35

I'd be delighted with a 3cm poo! 💩
Half a tablespoon of chia seeds in your morning cereal or yoghurt will help smooth things out 😁

DoubleHelix79 · 08/01/2024 19:36

Might be worth trying Lactulose - very low risk and should be available without a prescription for adults at any pharmacy.

SallyWD · 08/01/2024 19:38

3cm is really thin! I'm amazed you think this is big.

Doesn’t poo just come out the size of your bumhole? How would it come out smaller than your bumhole?

You realise your bum hole isn’t some sort of metal tube, right?

Something coming out of a metal tube would come out the same size not smaller as well. I’m genuinely asking how it’s possible for poo to be smaller than your bumhole.

Cheeesus · 08/01/2024 19:47

If they are soft then I would be surprised if they are aggravating the haemorrhoids.

Beautiful3 · 08/01/2024 19:49

If your poos are too big, that means they are storing up in your colon for too long. Get sodium picosulphate from the chemist, you don't need a prescription. It forces the colon to expell what's there. The more frequent you pass a stool, the smaller it will be. Magnesium salts in the bath will help too. One teaspoon of Califig syrup in some kefir yoghurt, will be great to speed up the process.
