Apologies if there is already a thread but I couldn’t find one. What on earth has gone on between Amanda Abbington and Giovanni Pernice during Strictly?AA is apparently taking legal action against the BBC claiming she has PTSD.

i’ve had a chance meeting with Giovanni on the street outside a dance studio, and he was lovely, even though I basically accosted him without warning on a 30 degree day in the baking sun.

I told him he had a big fan in my daughter, who was 7 at the time, and he chatted to her and was really charming and kind when he was on his own time and didn’t need to. Doesn’t mean he can’t also be difficult, but there’s a kind side to him.

WriterOfWrongs · 15/01/2024 18:01

That’s a lovely anecdote @ATerrorofLeftovers It absolutely sounds like he has a kind side. Indeed it’s entirely possible he was nothing but kind to Amanda.

I’m just mindful that for safeguarding reasons, we teach children and those who are vulnerable that people are complex and not to completely trust based on 5 minutes in a certain context.

@MamaToABeautifulBoy it's hardly embarrassing to point out that PTSD is quite a changing area of psychiatry, with varying views of its definition and therefore diagnosis. I assume you're a psychiatrist qualified to diagnose such a disorder?

That’s not what you commented on your original post though, it is 😂

This seems to all be kicking off again. I have to say I think trauma is poorly understood and can set in far more quickly in stressful situations than many people realise.

ThePoshUns · 17/03/2024 09:02

I thought it had all been dropped?

ponchohoncho · 17/03/2024 12:03

Not according to the DailyMail who I suspect has spoken to at least one of the parties directly or indirectly.

ThePoshUns · 17/03/2024 12:31

Ohh interesting.

Utterknowitall · 17/03/2024 15:57

Whether she is in the right or the wrong, I think it will adversely affect her career prospects.

Over40Overdating · 17/03/2024 19:42

So she didn’t get what she wanted from the footage, couldn’t milk it for max attention, so now she a source is ‘reporting’ a meet up with the other partners to the mail to keep the story going.

Have a feeling you think Johnny Depp’s a great guy too.

ponchohoncho · 18/03/2024 01:41

If she genuinely has PTSD though, can you blame her? I can't see why she would make it up any more than anyone claiming PTSD from anything else would.

Over40Overdating · 18/03/2024 07:37

@MissusWeasley good thing feelings aren’t facts then isn’t it, because you’d feel a bit stupid being so very wrong.

It’s almost like I’ve got enough of a brain to evaluate things as standalone events and not reduce everything to man bad, woman sad victim.

Almost? Oh, that’s great! All good, then.

@MissusWeasley with sharp wit like that, you’re wasted on an anonymous forum.

What happened yesterday? I can't see anything in the media today.

Charlize43 · 18/03/2024 16:33

I think at this point she's doing more damage to her career than if she had let it go.

A couple of my friends can't stand her now whereas before Strictly they wouldn't have had any opinion on her.

I’m sure that’s one of the many very unfair reasons it’s very hard for women to come forward in situations like this. It’s brave when they do.

Just google her name and hit the news button on the google search and it brings up all stories from the last few days. The same story about possibly making a joint complaint with other contestants has been in the multiple papers.

Willmafrockfit · 19/03/2024 06:27

i dont think she is doing herself any favours.

What situation? Going on a dance show and then complaining that she has PTSD?

God help the Amanda Abbingtons if they ever find themselves in a situation like war in the Ukraine!

I don't think people think she's 'brave' but slightly ridiculous.

Oh the ‘going on a dance show and getting PTSD’ thing again. Here we go, right ok, so… this seems desperately obvious but… I suspect she’s not claiming that the dance show itself is the issue. Rather something she alleges happened during it.

You know, a bit like if someone is assaulted in their office, it’s not the office itself? But rather what happened there.

Neither you nor I know what happened in this situation, and that’s the point. But just in case you’re confused about the dance show bit, thought I might be able to help out 😊

Thank you for typing all that out. I can totally see now why you support this ridiculous woman by your ridiculous answer. Well done!

Thank you, happy to support ‘ridiculous women’ everywhere.

I will bow out here, because I’ve said my piece, and we’ll never agree. I suspect your perspective on this will never change unless due to changing personal experience, and I genuinely hope for you that that never becomes the case.
