Apologies if there is already a thread but I couldn’t find one. What on earth has gone on between Amanda Abbington and Giovanni Pernice during Strictly?AA is apparently taking legal action against the BBC claiming she has PTSD.

@WriterOfWrongs there seem to be mixed reports but this is from a Daily Mail article yesterday. It doesn't say whether they honoured her request I suppose.

"According to Strictly insiders, Amanda called for cameras to be put up in rehearsal rooms as she became increasingly unhappy with Giovanni's attitude.

After her request, The Sun claims BBC bosses had a meeting with Giovanni over his conduct, but no action was taken."

WriterOfWrongs · 12/01/2024 20:47

Ah thanks @Mistressofnone

Hmm, this is all a bit too messy and public.

Charlize43 · 14/01/2024 09:23

Has she just done another interview with the Sun? I'm getting the feeling that she's enjoying all the drama and attention without actually disclosing what went on. It reminds me of the games reality TV Z listers play with the media to keep their names in the press.

You'd think she'd want to step back from it all and get treatment for her PTSD rather than reliving it every day. That can't be good for her mental health.

i expect the sun knows it sells papers/gets readers - so they just rehash it

ThePoshUns · 14/01/2024 10:23

There is an article in the Mail today that looks like she's given an interview/ leaked information
Says she has ' mild PTSD' and is receiving death threats.
Not sure how PTSD can be mild 🙄
She does seem like a right drama llama.

Willmafrockfit · 14/01/2024 10:24

and yes, now i have have searched, she seems to have done another reveal about the reaction to her ptsd claim @Charlize43

mydogisthebest · 14/01/2024 10:45

According to The Mail she is angry because she was not invited to do the Strictly tour! That cannot be true

Charlize43 · 14/01/2024 12:59

I doubt she'd want to do Strictly Tour unless she's trying to go from 'mild PTSD' to 'moderate or severe' if she's planning to shake down Auntie.

In my browse around this morning I saw a comment that said something like 'I've seen AA on the stage but after this I don't think I'll be watching anything she's in now.' The comments in the Daily Fail are also not particularly supportive of her.

I think at this point she's starting to do damage to her professional career as people are getting fed up of her. She's not coming across well. I hope she has more sense than try to milk the publicity for a couple of months and then turn around and say, 'No, this has nothing to do with Gio. I loved working with him!'

Despite doing another interview, she hasn't actually clarified anything!

Didn't that actress Catherine Tyldesley after 'cake gate' also claim to be getting 'death threats' and also throw her children into the mix. I wonder if her and AA have the same agent?

theDudesmummy · 14/01/2024 13:03

@ThePoshUns PTSD can indeed be mild. Not saying that is what she has necessarily, just pointing out that there are different levels of severity of PTSD (as defined both legally and clinically).

ArcaneWireless · 14/01/2024 13:13

We don’t know what has happened or who is involved still.

After my own personal experience/swirl of all encompassing shite/speculation, I take a dim view of folk standing quietly by while others are unfairly drowning in said shite.

I’m reserving judgement for now but I’ll probably go full Deirdre if it turns out to be so.

Silence ain’t always golden.

MrsTwatInAHat · 14/01/2024 13:26

Thinking about this, Strictly really best suits people who have no ego or agenda. Whether they're brilliant throughout, go on a "journey", or comedically crap, they will be popular if they seem like they're not up themselves and throw themselves into it for fun. Any sense of doing it for the publicity or money (though obviously those things may come their way) or being needy or arsey at all is not forgiven.

Unlike things like I'm a celeb or celeb big brother, where you can go on it for all kinds of nefarious reasons and it's all part of the mix and entertainment, and "villains" are kind of encouraged.

Some very obvious agenda players have done pretty well though.
The most obvious was Tom Chambers, who might as well have had a QR code to his agents' email and his showreel tattooed on his forehead.

Ah fair enough, I didn't see that one - have not watched every series.
I've never heard of him!

Ramalangadingdong · 14/01/2024 15:24

I can well believe that AA has PTSD after everything she has been through in the last few years: bankruptcy, break up of a long term relationship with a man with whom
she had children, falling in love with a handsome young man who soon after she started seeing him was involved in a horrendous accident, which left him a paraplegic.

All the above is too much stress for one person to bear. So, the GP stuff would have to be pretty bad for THAT to be the cause of her ptsd and not all the other events.

That may certainly be the case, but it is the way that she's making a lot of noise but not actually saying anything, which is putting a lot of people's backs up. Either poop or get off the pot!

Her leaving statement was also very baity and dramatic and it just all feels a bit gamey. I'm sure she'll be back in the papers again in a few days time to keep up the drip feed.

Maybe she's just bonkers! This is from an interview she did in Jan 2023

Amanda Abbington has always been terribly polite. Well, mostly. “Unless I’m in the car on my own and people don’t say thank you,” she says. “Then I'm really mouthy and nasty.” She’s not kidding. She once got so cross on the motorway that she actually followed someone in her car to a service station car park to tell him off. He was mortified, and she ended up buying him a coffee because she felt so bad about it.
“That's one of the most embarrassing things I've done,” she cringes. “From ‘why don't you say thank you?’ to ‘have a cappuccino on me’. I'm really sorry. Come and live in my house. Please have all my money.”

Booklover28 · 14/01/2024 16:24

I'm amazed that after calling the initial reports as bt, she is happy to give statements to the very tabloid which published those reports. She is practically confirming everything they have published is true. If any falsehood has been published, why doesn't she come out and say so?

MeinKraft · 14/01/2024 17:39

'That may certainly be the case, but it is the way that she's making a lot of noise but not actually saying anything, which is putting a lot of people's backs up. Either poop or get off the pot!'

Exactly, it's all very Meghan and Harry, throwing around some vague statements without naming names. It's incredibly damaging to everyone concerned.

RainbowWilf996 · 14/01/2024 17:43

Great to hear your positive experience of Giovanni @RainbowWilf996

JayAlfredPrufrock · 14/01/2024 21:49

Oh @RainbowWilf996

How lovely to hear from you.

WriterOfWrongs · 15/01/2024 10:11

Hi @RainbowWilf996 it’s great you enjoyed meeting Gio and found him kind.

We don’t know whether Gio has done anything wrong, we don’t have any evidence he has. All we know is that Amanda found Strictly a difficult experience, and a reason why may have been her training with Gio.

As a general life rule though: it’s important to remember that just because someone is kind to one person, it doesn’t mean they’re kind to someone else in a different situation.

MindHowYouGoes · 15/01/2024 14:19

He will be kind to people who pay to see him - that doesn’t mean anything really except he has to be nice so you pay to see him again. If he was rude or dismissive or unkind you wouldn’t go again would you?

WriterOfWrongs · 15/01/2024 16:35

Yes in a paid meet and greet, the ‘celebrity’ (in this case Gio) is almost guaranteed to be lovely.

Thats not to mean Giovanni isn’t a good, kind person, only that you can’t know someone’s true character from paying to spend time with them.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was true.

I can see there could be a logic to it, and… well I’ve worked with a lot of actors.
