Apologies if there is already a thread but I couldn’t find one. What on earth has gone on between Amanda Abbington and Giovanni Pernice during Strictly?AA is apparently taking legal action against the BBC claiming she has PTSD.

This is not a strictly problem. This is retrospectively about Amanda. She,like everyone else, knew what was in front of them
, the intensity etc. and it Aways takes two to tango.

Gowlett · 09/01/2024 18:15

Interesting, Booklover28. Someone else mentioned Alice Evans. Twitter / Insta etc can be quite addictive, I imagine…

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 09/01/2024 18:28

Cause BBC don’t have history with covering up abuse?

I'd agree with this totally. I think she wants some funds in the bank! There were a couple of occasions I felt, while watching her in SCD, when something seemed a bit "off" about her, but I couldn't put my finger on it. But then she isn't one of my favourite people anyway.

Who knows that happened, but terms like PTSD should be reserved for a bit more than a possibly rather aggressive dance coach. Watching people die violent deaths, that sort of thing, that's what I think of as PTSD...

I was bullied at work and had PTSD for years after. I had to leave work and lost my career as an Occupational Therapist. This was 25 years ago and I only stopped having nightmares about it within the last few years.
Never underestimate the effect that bullying has on a person.

Well, I met AA at a Comic Con last year, she was gushing over my cosplay and my sewing skills. Then she followed me on Instagram asked if I took commissions because she wanted me to make some dresses for her (I don't just make costumes) but has never contacted me and seems to have unfollowed me too.

So, I'm not saying she's flakey, but......

EvilRingahBitch · 09/01/2024 18:42

I don't have much stake in this either way, but I would suggest that anyone putting Amanda's behaviour down to not wanting to put the effort in goes back and looks at her dances. They're not the product of a Jerry Hall-style once-around-the-dance floor-and-it's-time-for-a-champagne-break approach to training.

I'd genuinely be equally prepared able to believe that the fault is his, hers or a bit of both, but I'd be staggered if the problem was her not being arsed to try.

And actually, even if that was her problem, which I absolutely don't believe, it would be her choice to make as the celeb who's being paid by results. Lots of celebs on Strictly over the years been unwilling or unable to work the punishing hours that you ideally want to achieve the best results. It's the pros' job to do their best with the effort available, stifle their disappointment and rein back their choreography to what's achievable. They are not the celeb's employer and they only get to order them around within mutually agreed limits.

Right. Disclaimer here. I don’t know Rose A-E or whether she’s profoundly deaf. And I genuinely do t mean this to sound stupid or offensive but if he is a shouty bully then surely he’d soon realise that shouting at a deaf person is
pretty pointless, and find another way?

but that doesn’t mean he’d suddenly change his ways with everyone?

I agree but I mean I wouldn’t have thought the producers would pair him with Rose in the first place if he was known to be impatient.

He was probably tough on her but training is tough and he is a professional athlete and wants to win.
We obviously don’t know her but I think the way she is maxing out on publicity with the aim of bringing him down is nasty and vindictive. She should have kept it private I am sure the BBC have appropriate measures in place.
She is the one behaving like an attention seeking diva

I agree with this. I can’t understand that she didn’t appreciate how brilliant their performances were, thanks to his rigorous training. I loved watching them, they were so well matched as a couple, just gorgeous. She seems vindictive, trying to ruin his career, which she will probably succeed in, judging by the comments on this thread which are largely supportive of her. I just can’t believe an actress of her experience is as fragile as she makes out, but I suspect she knows the BBC have deep pockets it it comes to compensation for her ‘trauma’.

But Ritchie the time before also had issues with Giovanni so it's a Giovanni issue

I went to school with Ritchie, from watching them it always seemed as though Giovani felt uncomfortable/ embarrassed and didn’t dance as well as he obviously can

Stringofpearlies · 09/01/2024 19:05

If he can't adjust his training style to the demeanor of the person learning with him, that's his failure as a teacher

but enough to cause someone to need therapy and say that have ptsd?

MoonWoman69 · 09/01/2024 19:12

I remember a couple of times her face changed dramatically when she was receiving constructive criticism from the judges! She looked like she couldn't believe they had the audacity to criticise her! You have to accept that in those situations, so that you can improve! Why she expected praise when it wasn't due baffled me! That's definitely the needy/wanting to be liked side coming through.

martinisforeveryone · 09/01/2024 19:13

@Booklover28
i believe she is a deeply insecure person who needs constant validation and cannot stand any sort of criticism. Why a person like that is in show business is really confusing to me.

I'm reading everyone's contributions with interest and trying to strike a balance.

I did read, somewhere, who knows where, that she actually worked and paid off her bankruptcy? However, I can only find reports of the bankruptcy being discharged after a year, which seeing as the c£100-120,000 was owed to HMRC (aka the taxpayer) at least in the most part, could have meant the Revenue settled for what they thought they could reasonably get hold of.

Celeb bankruptcies due to none payment of tax really wind me up. The rest of us have to either pay as we go or pay on account of projected earnings. How do they get away with it? and it's never thousands, it's always tens and hundreds of thousands, literally stolen from us. Just put it to one side, it's like a shop thinking everything in the till is profit.

I haven't followed AA's acting, she's just not been in anything I watch. I didn't know about her being GC. I have no axe to grind.

I have just always had a gut instinct that she's very emotionally fragile, as in, someone who could turn like the flick of a switch and no one could ever predict what might trigger that turn. If that's near the mark, she's not someone I'd have placed on a demanding series like Strictly. It's not for everyone. From her position though, with her domestic circumstances, a raised profile and good pay day, would be very tempting regardless of what you were being asked to do.

adriftinadenofvipers · 09/01/2024 19:24

I think a lot of posters are way, way too invested in this!

Unbelievable!

awaynboilyurheid · 09/01/2024 19:26

Its known that AA was always pushing for more work in TV, this makes me think she is after a pay out and is claiming PTSD.

Giovanni is competitive , he’s had lots of dance partners and he’s bound to not get on with some and better with others, that’s life. Lots don’t get on with their dance partners. Lula and Brendan really didnt get on at all well but she didn't claim PTSD and try to get money out the BBC.

What an embarrassing post 🙄

Megansmumsie · 09/01/2024 19:30

I just wanted to add, as I hadn't seen anyone mention it, the reason Laura Whitmore didn't want to work with him/ like him is he dated one of her friends, if memory serves me.

evilkeneivel · 09/01/2024 19:31

Rachel Riley said she had therapy for PTSD after Strictly and she went on to marry her dance partner so I wonder how much of this is about the show itself.

NeedSomeHeadspace · 09/01/2024 19:36

I couldn’t bear Ritchie! He’s too full of himself and as a radio traffic guy he always tried to make the radio shows about him!

Ramalangadingdong · 09/01/2024 19:40

Dancers are notorious for this. Years ago the conservatoire teachers were brutal. They would comment on weight and body shape and were extremely demanding. It wasn’t intended to be abusive but to instil in students the perfection demanded by dance. They would never get away with it today. They would all be sued and cancelled.

commonground · 09/01/2024 19:47

Yes, I think I read that it was 'awkward' for Laura W because her mate was going out with the Gio guy but they were breaking up at the time, so that was the tough/difficult headlines they tease you with about her.

I have no idea of the validity of the situation, obvs. But I have to say, I have seen AA on stage twice and both times she wasn't great. One was in a regional theatre production where she forgot her lines and just laughed (embarrassed? Or - oh it's a regional so what does it matter?)

And once in the West End where she also seemed really off the pace. It was noticeable as everyone else was soooo good and professional. I hope she is OK, tbh.
