Country music appreciation thread

Just watching the 58th Academy of Country Music Awards on Prime presented by my first two country loves Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks.
I love country music and Lainey Wilson is my latest love. I don't see many music threads in general (except Taylor Swift ticket threads-love TS) and thought I'd start one where we can share our love of l things country music. I'm going to start wearing my cowboy boots again and go to the local country festival in the summer. I'm autistic and music is my main stim where I play the same song over and over for hours if not days. They then go on my songs of the week playlist.
I'd be hard pressed to choose my ultimate favourite but current favourites are:
Lainey Wilson
Jason Aldean
Blake Shelton
Luke Combs
Cole Swindell
Carly Pearce
Jordan Davis
Kelsea Ballerini
Luke Bryan
Carrie Underwood

Wildflowers and Wild Horses by Lainey Wilson is my current musical stim. I wake up singing it in my head.

I love the way country songs tell a story. Not all, but most of what I listen too is a story. Some are just good fun but I love the story telling. Blown Away by Carrie Underwood for example. The Thunder Rolls by Garth Brooks. Proper goosebumps songs.

Come share your country music love with me 🥰

I'm here - there does seem to have been a distinct lack of country music events in the UK this past 10 years.

Does anyone know of, and what to go to, a country music event in or near Gloucestershire/worcestershire/warwickshire?

Patsykenning · 07/01/2024 17:41

I love The Chicks - Easy Silence is one of my favourite songs of all time. I like a lot of the artists you mention too but I listen to them on Spotify country playlists rather than in depth. I am a huge Swiftie and I think the reason she is such a good storyteller is because of her country background. 🩷

Big country music fan here. Quite a lot of live country to see in the UK now - there is C2C (Lainey played last year) and the Long Road as two big country festivals. And country is so popular now that lots of stars come - in last 6 months I have seen Luke Combs, Zack Bryan and Morgan Wallenberg. I have tickets for Tyler Childers in Feb and my 11th C2C in March. Join Country Music Attendees group on Facebook if you want to meet people to go to concerts with.

Pyri · 07/01/2024 18:06

Big huge country music fan here. But not proper old school country, I love the “bro country” which is really more of a mix of pop and rock country

Jason Aldean is my all time favourite. Would love him to tour here one day.

BringMeSunshine48 · 07/01/2024 18:10

Love a bit of Country! Chris Stapleton is my fave!

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 07/01/2024 21:15

Hi y'all! So glad you've joined me! I'm so envious of those who have seen any of my favourites live. I saw Kenny Rogers, Don Williams and Reba McIntyre about 17 years ago. That was something. My granddad used to sing a Don Williams song so it was very emotional.
I live in the Northwest (England) and am going to be on the look out for festivals locally.
My godmother spent time in Texas and met lots of real life cowboys and I send her all my favourite songs. I love her stories of tall, dark, handsome cowboys.
My ds shares my love of country but my teenagers are slightly embarrassed although I catch them singing along when they think I'm not looking 🤣
I usually ask Alexa to play me some country and will notice a song, ask her who it is and then listen to more of their stuff.

Love country music! Brett Eldredge is a favourite of mine. Seen quite a few live now, they tend to play small venues! Cam, Maren Morris, Old Dominion, Thomas Rhett!

I really want to see Brothers Osborne!

EwwSprouts · 07/01/2024 21:48

I've discovered the Absolute Country radio channel and often have it on in the car. Love the big names like Dolly Parton. Current songs in my head are The Painter by Cody Johnson and My Church by Maren Morris. Also like Zac Brown Band.

guinnessguzzler · 07/01/2024 22:01

Love Maren Morris, especially My Church, which is an absolute belter. Also fairly recently came across Walker Hayes who I really like.

Dolly of course is wonderful and absolutely love her new version of What's Up, duetting with Linda Perry. Great concept for the whole album.

Will check out some of the others suggested here, thanks for the thread OP.

KissTheRains · 07/01/2024 22:10

Waylon Jennings
Johnny cash
Alan Jackson
& Charlie Daniels

That's my favourites list.
I couldn't put them in an order if in honest.
They all have songs I love and I couldn't pick a favourite from their discography.

But .. some to try:

Waylon -
Are You Sure Hank Did It This Way?
Lonesome Onry and Mean

Johnny Cash -
Folsom Prison Blues
The Man Comes Around

Alan Jackson -
Blue Ridge Mountain Song (this one makes me cry, the lyrics are heartbreaking)
Small Town Southern Man

Charlie Daniels -
Talk To Me Fiddle

Still in Saigon
Legend Of Wooley Swamp

There are some amazing country fb groups which are full of uk gig info. Cowboys and Cowgirls UK is particularly good. Saw Shania, The Chicks, Maren Morris and Luke Combs last year and Lainey and Chris Stapleton coming up this year! (All in the London/Birmingham)

The fb groups are really on it when it comes to tickets, the scene is exploding and tickets sell out in minutes!!

NashvilleQueen · 07/01/2024 22:18

Hello! You'd probably have guessed by my name that I am fan.

I tend to like 'old' country and then what is sometimes called alt country, Americana or bluegrass. Favourite artists:
Johnny Cash
George Jones
Dolly (obviously)
Alan Jackson
Randy Travis
Hank Williams

Gillian Welch
Alison Krauss
The Chicks
Brad Paisley
Dwight Yoakham
Chris Janson
Gary Stewart

Rocketstarr · 07/01/2024 22:18

Also Buck and Bull for regular country events. Mostly London but sometimes Ireland, the next one is Bournemouth. Live music, line dancing, rodeo bull and DJ. Everyone’s in boots and hats, the best nights!

Lesina · 07/01/2024 22:22

Taylor Austin Dye’s song ‘rest in peace’ is my current favourite :)

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 07/01/2024 22:40

I saw Don Williams, Kenny Rogers and Reba McIntire about 17 years ago too! A Manchester venue. I felt like I had reduced the average age by decades and it was the best live event I have ever been to.

Thank you for reminding me of the memories.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 08/01/2024 13:58

Does anyone know anywhere to get a cowboy hat? Not fancy dress type but a decent one that doesn't cost the earth? I looked at Lainey Wilson's hat choices but they are made with fur which is a big no and $$$$ too. I do love hats. Hats should make a comeback. I have a fairly small head if that mages a difference.

The guitar solo in “stay a little longer” is one of the best pieces of music in any song ever

SquashPenguin · 08/01/2024 14:20

I used to like Jason Aldean until I realised what a racist and xenophobic piece of shit he actually is.

I stick with Brad Paisley, Dolly and Chris Stapleton now.
