Peter Bone attempting to prove he’s not the bully he’s made out to be by … bullying Sunak into choosing his girlfriend as a candidate.

Zonder · 07/01/2024 22:18

You couldn't make it up.

Zonder · 07/01/2024 22:26

Just seen the MN thread which is really an ad - survey about MNetters political views. Will be interesting to read the results.

Notonthestairs · 07/01/2024 22:27

I read similar @Zonder

I'm amazed that Bone would have split the vote. Have the Conservative voters of Wellingborough not read what he did?

cakeorwine · 07/01/2024 22:33

I was just looking at his constituency. One thing I find depressing was the turnout - 64%. That is basically 36% of the electorate who did not vote.

Voter turnout in this country is low. Some 72% of people voted in the EU Referendum but you can see how it's changed over the last elections.

I have always voted. It would be interesting to see the reasons why people don't vote - and what would make people want to vote.

Voter turnout in the UK 1918-2019 | Statista

In the UK's general election of 2019, voter turnout was 67.3 percent, a 1.5 percent drop compared with the previous general election in 2017.

Zonder · 07/01/2024 22:46

Same @Notonthestairs I wonder if both PB and RS just have an overinflated sense of his importance.

Zonder · 07/01/2024 22:48

I find it shocking @cakeorwine but I know a lot of people who say they're not interested in politics (often followed by that erudite statement that they're all the same anyway).

I just want to say so you're not interested in health or education or housing or tax or pensions then?

RafaistheKingofClay · 07/01/2024 22:54

He may not have needed to split the vote by very much given current swings. They really are in an every vote counts situation. Possible that if it was a different situation they could have just told Bone to fuck off.

It’s a bit like reform helping the left by threatening to stand a candidate in every seat. They won’t get a huge vote share or any MPs but it’s going to take just enough of the further right Tory voters to make things more difficult for them.

Notonthestairs · 07/01/2024 23:14

Certainly has the whiff of desperation.

Zonder · 08/01/2024 07:39

Sorry I meant surely Tory won't keep it anyway but I know some places do still vote Tory.

newnamethanks · 08/01/2024 07:49

Dear God. In Plain Sight. For anyone who doubts it, this is what they think of the electorate. Good luck Wellingborough, may you have all you desire and if you buy this then serve you right.

itsgettingweird · 08/01/2024 07:55

Single mums are one of the Tories favourite targets

Along with disabled people.

I'm a LP to a disabled (now adult) DS.

I watched services dwindle and the recent hatred increase.

pointythings · 08/01/2024 08:41

I think low turnout is to be expected in a FPTP system. For too many people their vote really makes no difference.

DuncinToffee · 08/01/2024 09:17

Parliament is back today and Alok Sharma is the first MP to say that he won’t back the government’s oil and gas bill

AdamRyan · 08/01/2024 09:26

I really hope more follow him.

BIossomtoes · 08/01/2024 09:36

AdamRyan · 08/01/2024 09:26

A lot of them have nothing to lose since they’re not standing for reelection. The Whips are going to have a hell of a job maintaining any semblance of unity until the election.

I wonder if some groups of people will be more motivated to vote this time, and others that typcially do vote will be less motivated.

Sunak deliberately misleading journalists

"I asked the PM how he felt about the girlfriend of Peter Bone getting selected to replace him, after he was found to have harassed staff. His response didn't endorse her...

"Candidate selection is done locally, so local members in their area can choose a given candidate. That's how It works in our party. We believe in empowering people locally that's how we do it."

BUT

"Hmm… for by-election selections the three person shortlist is actually set by CCHQ (after consultation with the local party)… so Sunak’s claim that it’s all done locally is not true"

He opens his mouth and lies flow out.

Zonder · 08/01/2024 15:31

There's a real pile on onto KS on the thread about his children. He said he has a son of 15 and a son of 13 when everywhere else says he has a daughter of 13. This is really nit picking. I'm always getting my kids names wrong!

Tufton Street must be really worried that the taps of their ponzi scheme are about to be turned off.

Notonthestairs · 08/01/2024 15:41

I think a quick glance at some recent threads gives an indication of how increasingly panicked Tory supporters are.

This absolutely they seem to be coming every few days.

That's awful. Kids should be left out of it. Whatever the party.

Can't go on these threads too much, my head will explode
