For everyone thinking I meant Maxine Peake (dinner ladies) no I mean Maxine Carr.
I name changed after this thread, but yes that's why I put infamous rather than celeb.
Yes she had a new name at that point, yes it's been changed since, she moved out of the area pretty quickly.
No it wasn't a social choice.

Name change fail! Will need to look into that again

No, you are actually having me on now. People are just rolling up like “hello Monaco”?

Sorry, it was referring to an episode of Mock The Week, where Gary Delaney mixed up Princess Michael of Kent and Princess Grace of Monaco and accidentally merged them into 'Princess Monaco of Kent'!

He was 'reminded' of it for many weeks afterwards by the others on the panel!

Gary Delaney - Princess Monaco of Kent

Gary Delaney makes a mistake on Mock The Week and got utterly rinsed for it.

I realised that you were referring to the actual criminal MC - it was just when PP responded to you by saying that she had worked hard to get where she was and was probably a really kind person irl that I thought she must have mixed up the names, as she later confirmed she had.

Lifeetc · 13/01/2024 15:42

@FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper tbh I missed the original confusion over Peake/Carr I then pm one person explaining.
Decided to do a name change, got a notice from this thread and ended up back on with that user name .

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 13/01/2024 18:14

Sorry I distracted the entire thread with my Peake/Carr confusion. I really did have Peake in my head the whole time (although I’m sure it took a bit of work to get where Carr was, just not the sort of work most of the population want to be done ever).
While we’re talking about confusion can we talk about the sadist who called their daughter Michael?

Serencwtch · 13/01/2024 18:27

I served Damon Hill in shop where I worked for years without realizing who he was. Nice bloke

Yes, I think that's a baked-in feature that you can't name-change within a single thread and so all your posts appear under whatever user name you started on the thread with.

I presume it's to avoid sock puppeting trollery.

Who? Which sadist?!

There's Michael Steele in the Bangles, but she changed her name herself (from Susan), for whatever reason.

I wonder if it's an alternative spelling of the Jewish girl's name "Michal". (Younger daughter of Saul; first wife of King David, who "bought" her with a sack of 200 Philistine foreskins*. Men knew how to impress a FIL in those days . . . )

*Twice as many as he was asked for - Not sure who counted them

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 13/01/2024 20:44

Princess Michael of Kent? Given her heritage and public position it’s not a misspelling of Michal/Mishal or even Michelle.

That's her Royal Title though

DillDanding · 13/01/2024 21:33

She’s known as Princess Michael as she’s not a princess in her own right, but through marriage. This is why Kate is not Princess Kate or Catherine. She could have been styled Princess William on her marriage, but was made a duchess instead.

The title Princess Diana was not correct, but the press called her that and it stuck.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 13/01/2024 21:41

Oh, I didn’t know! It’s just always confused me that we have a Princess Diana, a Queen Camilla, had a Queen Elizabeth, princesses Zara, Beatrice and Eugenie and suddenly one of the Princesses is called… Michael? I mean if out and proud, I support you but it’s just weirdly unexplained. And doesn’t fit in with the RF’a carefully crafted image.

Im going to confess to knowing him and his friend Neil Stuke and they are animals, not what you would think at all.....glad this is anonymous!

Do you mean animals in a good way?

Princess Michael of Kents first name is Marie Christine according Wikipedia. Anecdotally, she is supposedly the most dreadful snob, grander than the rest of the royal family put together

Im not sure how I found this thread but though I’d revive it!

Most famous person I’ve met was Princess Di at Thorpe Park. She was with William and Harry , and some security guards in plain clothes. I was in a queue with my family , and my mum spent quite a bit of time talking to her. She was very nice and seemed quite normal. Harry asked me a question , like have I been on this before or something like that.

Theres quite a lot of footage from that day, it’s the one when she goes down a water slide. Thats the queue we met her in. Would have been early 90s.

Mark Gatiss, after a play he was in and we sat in the pub chatting (invited by mutual friend). I was too starstruck to contribute much but I did pet his lovely Labrador. He was perfectly pleasant company, very sharp and witty, but tired after the performance. I rather got the impression he was turning up to be polite to (mutual friend) and probably just wanted to go home!
