I was at school with Hannah Waddingham, and she was horrible. Absolute bully. In fairness, it was decades ago and she may have changed. I certainly hope so, for the sake of those around her.

Aw no i like her on tv

That's interesting @blahhblahhblahh as she says she was bullied terribly at school! I don't think I've met a single celeb, what am I doing wrong?!

Littlemisssunseeker · 05/01/2024 11:29

I have met Ricky Gervais! It was during The Office era and he was pretty much the same as he comes across on TV...

Moier · 05/01/2024 11:40

I was doing a promotion for Road Safety when l was 21 at the Great Yorkshire show and l modeled with David Prowse ( The Green Cross code man/ Darth Vader).. he lifted me up on one arm.. we were on the local news and in the local papers.. He then took me out to lunch.. was a lovely kind person.

I spent about 2 weeks with Alan Cumming as part of a charity/fundraising event he did (think, climbing Kilimanjaro sort of thing, where we had to live together for a period of time in quite stark conditions). I was young then and didn't really know who he was, so didn't go in expecting anything. But he is literally the loveliest most down to earth funniest person. Other than his larger than life personality, I would never have known he was a 'celebrity'. He shat in the same squat toilets as the rest of us, and slept in the same dodgy drafty freezing tents, and we went out for meals together and he ate the same questionable boringly repetitive group dinners as the rest of us on site. He was just generally so lovely.

Met someone whose child has contact with her through their work. Said she is a total diva and very difficult.

I sort of met Ricky Gervais...

He was the Ents managers at the Student Union in which I had a bar job.
Saturday nights, once we'd cleared up, all the staff would have a few beers, it'd get quite silly, there were some right characters there!

When his name began to be known, one of my friends that had worked there at the same time told me that Ricky used to be there most Saturday nights with us because of his job.
He just made no impression. Certainly if he'd been the way he is now, I would've noticed him - but he didn't stand out.
I have no recollection of him although my friend assures me he was there!

I served John Leslie a couple of pints once. He's actually a friend of a friend.
And a loud arrogant prick as you'd expect.

I never pay any attention to these but (if true) that is DISAPPOINTING with a capital D

I served Jim Kerr in a shop with his girlfriend , he was lovely and friendly.
Also Robbie Coltrane was friendly too.

KitchenSinkLlama · 05/01/2024 12:36

I recently met Clive Myrie. Just the loveliest man ever.

I could see that about her tbh

In various jobs I’ve done I’ve met a few famous people.

Germaine Greer, very entitled, loud and difficult. The late Arch Bishop Runcie, very nice, extremely humble. Prince Edward, Prince Philip genuinely interested in our exhibitions, well researched/prepared. Princess Margaret, looked like she wasn’t at all interested. I wanted this to be because she was sad but none of us warmed to her or felt that.

Alan Rickman as lovely as everyone said he was. Paul Rhys, very luvvies and yet the most generous and kind person. Diana Rigg, a much better feminist than Germaine Greer and both glam and intelligent.

Ruth Jones is a friend of a friend and she joined our virtual book group during lockdown. She was absolutely lovely, really down to earth.

I told her a scandalous story from my family history, she laughed a lot and I've wondered if I'll ever see it rewritten by her for tv!

God, I love Ruth Jones. Nessa is iconic and her books are great too. too much talent, that woman.

Now we can find out what secondary school you likely went to.

Bumped into Olivia Newton John shopping in London in the early 70s just as she was becoming famous in the UK (regularly Saturday night TV slots etc). She was absolutely lovely, so friendly and humble, and absolutely beautiful - she was happy to chat and joke. I've been a fan ever since!

JeezJerry · 05/01/2024 13:36

I've met a lot of Celebrities through Work, the story is too outing to share but Venus and Serena Williams were my most memorable Confused

wonderinglywondering · 05/01/2024 13:38

Served and chatted to Pete Doherty working in an East End pub in the early 2000's. He was very friendly, softly spoken and sweet, I was a huge Libertines fan so quite starstruck. He had a pint of Guinness and some port at about 11:30 in the morning and was with a very dodgy looking character!

Danced the night away with Julian Barratt from the Mighty Boosh - came across just like his character in the show, really funny and friendly.

Miquita Oliver was a rude snobby cow.

I love these threads to count how often Anthony Head comes up as the nicest man in Britain!

Anothernamechangeee · 05/01/2024 13:38

I’ve name changed for obvious reasons

My relation is good friends with some BBC type actors but biggest name is Andrew Garfield. Lovely guy. We had dinner with him and Emma Stone quite a few times when they were together. Both lovely and she is tiny in real life and very funny

hogmanayhoolie · 05/01/2024 13:44

@Reugny Why would we want to find that out?

doodlepants · 05/01/2024 13:49

I work in an industry where I've met quite a few and had to work with them. Paxman called me"deranged" after I showed him a picture of my chihuahua when we were talking about dogs 😅 Woody Harrellson was very moody and unhappy and surprisingly very short???? Internet says he's 5'10 but I was towering over him...

Malala was very timid but very respectful, I suppose to be expected. Tim Berners-Lee was just awesome.

The CNO of the Navy I expected to be scary but was absolutely delightful and very nervous.

Spent some time with Stephen Hawking and he was absolutely hilarious. That's probably the one that surprised me the most because he was such a admired academic i expected him to be boring. But then after I remembered he had done big bang theory, simpsons etc so kind of made sense that he knew how to have a laugh.

Hannah Fry was my favourite. I work in a male dominated industry and am used to getting ignored but one job I worked when she arrived she walked straight in and introduced herself to me first and it absolutely blew me away. I was so used to being ignored because I'm a woman!

I'm sure I could name many more but those are the ones that immediately come to me. I don't work that job any more sadly.

beguilingeyes · 05/01/2024 13:52

I've worked with Beverley Craven. 90s One Hit Wonder (Promise Me). She's a cow. Hard nosed and miserable. Bully.
