In the late 80s, I was asked out for a drink by Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins whilst on a lunch break walking up Chancery Lane. He was very drunk 🥴. Declined obvs 😁
I've served tea and cake to Roger Daltry, again in the late 80s. Very up his own arse, horrible man!
Was in a club in the West End in the mid 80s, dancing away with Boy George in our little group. He wasn't with us mind, just decided to join us dancing.
I've met and chatted to The Pasadenas (remember them) in a club, mid to late 80s.
Jamie Carragher walked past me in St James' Park a few months ago. Didnt even say hello to me 🤣

Richard Branson is trending on Twitter now - being linked with Epstein.

Stripperyone · 08/01/2024 23:01

El Hadji Diouf in a strip club in the North West where I was working. He was a bit arrogant. I was wearing a boob tube style bra and a mini skirt and he yanked the tube down so it exposed my breast. Ashamedly, I didn't say anything, just smiled and pulled it back up.
Didn't spend a single penny either.

NeedWineNow · 08/01/2024 23:11

I stood on Phil Lynott's foot at an Ultravox concert without actually realising it, casually threw a 'sorry darlin' over my shoulder and this deep Irish voice said 'no worries '. My brother said 'you do know who you've just stepped on don't you' so I turned round and he was standing there, gorgeous smile and a real twinkle in his eyes. I just blushed 😁

All those Johnny Depp fans are deranged. Regardless of what you think of Amber Heard, a man who smashes up a kitchen cabinet during a sweary drunken rant, in front of his wife (classic intimidation tactic), is not someone any normal person would want to spend much time with.

I can't believe Paul bettany hasn't been cancelled, his texts were so disgusting. I had really liked him previously.

Umanresources · 09/01/2024 02:26

I was standing at a bus stop and saw two outriders on motorbikes come past me and then stop. They were followed by a large car which stopped right opposite me. Inside was Princess Anne. We locked eyes and I went, "ooh", and gave a slight wave. She smiled at me and waved back before being driven off. I saw on the news that she had been opening a factory in a nearby town. It was a long way to come for just that.

My point exactly

The worst I've ever met was John McCrirrick. I walked into a hotel reception and he was standing there with a famous jockey. He was shouting and screaming as there was no-one at the reception desk (it was a small hotel so obviously they'd just popped away for a moment).

He was screaming 'slave, slave, someone find me a slave' at the top of his voice. A vile man. He and the jockey then sat in the lounge being loud, obnoxious and sexist.

I had the (dis)pleasure of him lying on a sun bed next to me on holiday. If you think he looks bad clothed, just imagine how bad it could be in a pair of swim shorts! 🤮
It was when he was made redundant from his commentating job and the papers were full of stories about how devastated and upset he was at losing his job. I can tell you that the only upset seemed to be to his digestive system as he lay farting and snoring on that sun bed 🤢 Yes, I moved pdq! 😂

I presume that was a typo?!

Who was it that you're referring to - Branson?

Firefly2009 · 08/01/2024 01:38

That's interesting. Why would he throw someone over his shoulder?!

I know someone who used to work for him very closely. Apparently he is very nice and looks after his employees like they are family.

I did a Virgin fear of flying course, and a couple of the flight attendants running the course told me he’s a bad letch, and whenever they have to be around him, the females all hide.

I'm not surprised in the least.

Before this name had appeared in this particular context, I'd been wondering for some time when it would.

I met and chatted to Shane mc Gowan for ages. Honestly il never forget him. He was one of the kindest humans I’ve ever met. The other famous person I met was Paul hill. One of the Birmingham six. In law of president Kennedy. We had a lock in in dingle. Honest to god, absolute gentleman. Really enjoyed being in his company. One of the best nights craic ever. I have also met the ex president of Ireland Mary mc alese. She was a bit meeh.

Well Mary McAleese is an interesting woman. But she might not be the best at lowering pints after hours in a pub in Dingle ! 😂

luxuria84 · 09/01/2024 15:55

Used to do the pub quiz at our local in Shepherd's Bush back in the mud 90's with Louis Theroux.

He was sound and had a good general knowledge of!

luxuria84 · 09/01/2024 15:57

I also met Jack Duckworth from Corrie outside the Marquis of Granby on Charlotte Street many years ago.

The umbrella on our table collapsed on me whilst I was trying to erect it, which ye found hilarious!

SheerLucks · 09/01/2024 16:12

A couple of decades ago a hugely expensive apartment came up for sale in the square we lived in. I was intrigued and persuaded my mum to come for a viewing with me just so we could see what it was like.

The estate agent said the owner would be happy to show us round so we turned up and a very familiar looking, rather bohemian man answered the door.

I remember saying "Oh I think we have some of the same friends as I'm sure I know you" and then started spinning our yarn about why we were viewing the flat (which was gorgeous).

After about 20 minutes though I realised it was Tim Booth from the band James, and then had to spend a really embarrassing 30 or so more minutes pretending I didn't know who he was and that we actually wanted to buy his apartment!!

Tim Booth from the band James

SheerLucks · 09/01/2024 16:13

Oh and he was lovely - very gentle and softly spoken, just like I expected.

DillDanding · 09/01/2024 16:32

Whilst some people may have heard of James, I don’t suppose many would’ve heard of or recognised Tim Booth!

Nave · 09/01/2024 16:54

I meet Ricky Gervais often when I am walking my dog. He walks regularly on Hampstead Heath with his partner. He is always very friendly and nice to my dog!

FishIsForCatsNotDogs · 09/01/2024 16:57

Met him and his family at a BBQ about 5 years ago now. A very lovely unassuming man.

@FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper sorry, you've completely lost me! Diouf, the Leeds player. With his entourage, a load of other Leeds players. Didn't know who the hell they were to be fair as I've no interest in football but was introduced via other dancers who were all fawning over them as is to be expected.

Nave · 09/01/2024 17:43

Alan Davies lives near me so I see him around a lot. Miserable bugger!

GellerYeller · 09/01/2024 18:57

I would absolutely have heard of and recognised Tim Booth! Coincidentally he’s a big Leeds United fan too.

Has anyone met Joan Collins. I'm in awe of her drive at 90

I was an extra in an ad that she did (not the Cinzano ads, I'm afraid). I think it was for the Bristol and West Building Society aroundabout 1988. We were all there early, as you generally are when filming and then stood around for ages until she decided that she was ready.

She was wearing a black and white dress and unfortunately, Wardrobe had given me a not dissimilar dress - as you might imagine, I spent most of my day standing behind a door out of shot!
