Anyone actually excited about a Keir / Labour govt?

1000 replies

roarrfeckingroar · 04/01/2024 17:37

I'm typically a Tory voter (one nation Conservative, just right of centre, nothing radical) and gender critical, so I'm wary of a Labour government. I worry they'll leave the country worse than it is now.

However, I absolutely agree we need a change. Things can't get much worse, can they? Idiots like Boris and Truss have made a mockery of what I understand of the Conservatives - namely economic competence - and I can't vote for them this time. I don't know who I will vote for.

Listening to LBC this evening, I hear a Labour MP talk about how Starmer is offering an "exciting programme" of change and I just don't buy it. Maybe he will he better, maybe he won't, but my real question is is anyone genuinely excited about Labour, or just looking forward to the back of the Tories?

@AllTheScoresOnAllTheDoors I know how you feel- my father in law pissed me off over the NY with regards to the doctors strike saying well if they don't like the money, leave and go to the private sector- that's really going to help things!!

This was a guy who voted leave and these days says 'it was all crap (Brexit) but I didn't vote. He most certainly did as I remember discussing this the day after the referendum.

Oh gosh, yes this too. " all strikers should be sacked " apparently - this includes the train staff and doctors / nurses. And " unions are too powerful and need to be curbed". What, so you want to do away with our fundamental right to protest?! The very same unions that has saved his ass when pay cuts and redeployment were mooted? May as well do away with the lot of ' em and whilst you're at it, give us all a number and take away our right to be called by our name...

If Labour truly cared about the country & wanted to be in power, they could change their policies to support those rights, & be guaranteed a victory

I honestly don't think that Labour's stance on trans issues is what most voters will base their choice on. It is not an election deciding issue for most people.

It's not trans issues, it's women's rights that people care about. They always did care about those, they just didn't realise how much under threat those rights are. But they're learning, fast.

"It doesn't come up as an issue on the doorstep" politicians & activists say - except it does, all the time, if you listen to the people who actually raise it on the doorsteps & in communications with politicians.

Someone said once that the reason airlines keep meal trays spotless on their aircraft is not just for good hygiene: it's because passengers would see a coffee cup ring & think, 'If the airline can't be bothered to clean these trays, maybe they don't maintain their engines either'. Same thing here: if Labour are willing to trash women's rights against the wishes of the majority of the population, & to say things on the topic which produce a reaction of derisive laughter, people will wonder if they can be trusted with anything else.

No one asked you about the law @jgw1

You were asked about men and cervixes. And have refused to answer while obfuscating.

Here's PM Johnson refusing to say that only women have a cervix.

But my prize for Most bonkers answer ever given to the question "What is a woman?" goes to PM Sunak🏆 who said a woman is whatever Boris Johnson says.😆

Boris Johnson slammed over failure to tackle 'woke fundamentalism'

BORIS JOHNSON has been savaged on social media by social commentator Paul Embery for not standing up "woke fundamentalism" in an interview with GB News.

Well it seems as though people do think Labour are to be trusted.

Could you please point me to where Labour has set out what exactly it is doing to trash women's rights?

The HoLs is a very useful balance- they don’t need to acquiesce to whatever is being pushed in the media or keep any big corporations on side. Also see the amount of work that a lot of HoL members do for charities etc.

Removing the HoL would be detrimental to the UK.

Edit to add- and don’t forget the HoL has members from Labour, Lib Dem etc

Edited

100% this. We NEED the HoL to hold the Commons to account.

I'm pretty sure some who pop on here on political threads have some kind of Tufton st role and are advised that todays 'propaganda ' subject is xxxx (gender, immigration, tax) whatever!! Basically to keep planting stuff in the floating voters , because they have little they can campaign on in a positive way-

This is so wrong that I had to google Tufton St. So that's me out. Over on the feminist threads, however, we can generally spot the activists & other fakes.

Why, have you not been paying attention for the last few years?

I don't believe for one minute it will be any better but I certainly can't give my vote to the Tories (I have before) as we know for sure that they've let us down in the worst way possible. We at least have to give labour a chance to not fuck us over

And if they do fuck us over, have women under a urinary leash, fuck over womens sports, keep putting rspists in womens prisons etc?

What do we do then?
How the hell do we fix that?

DewHopper · 05/01/2024 15:11

jgw1 · 04/01/2024 20:33

But you still support Cleverleys party even though he thinks its funny to give drugs to his wife that are commonly used in date rape?

I can only assume that protection of women is not high on your agenda, which is understandable given how many other crisis the government have created.

Are you actually stating that Cleverly drugs his wife because it sounds like you are?

fuckssaaaaake · 05/01/2024 15:13

@Winnading oh I left my "how to fix a country book at home" so don't have an answer im afraid. But I take it you have an answer for how we fix the country leaving Tories in charge?

Zonder · 05/01/2024 15:14

EasternStandard · 05/01/2024 14:44

No it’s because posters are really good at refuting political claims with evidence on FWR and Starmer doesn’t fare well against that.

Possibly not as good as you think. I haven't been convinced. I really don't know how anyone who cares about women can vote Tory.

Zonder · 05/01/2024 15:16

DewHopper · 05/01/2024 15:11

It was Cleverley himself who said it. Only later did he claim it was a joke.

Mr Cleverly also laughed that the secret to a long marriage was ensuring your spouse was “someone who is always mildly sedated so she can never realise there are better men out there”.

Look, I know that Labour has struggled to properly articulate where it stands on trans issues, and Starmer has flailed about, probably trying not to offend anyone. That reflects the fact that there are some issues to iron out.

But I have seen nothing to say Labour is planning to "trash my rights". As you have left the thread I will wait to see what the manifesto says.

Labour haven't been in power the last few years. The party which has been in power, and has made life harder for women, is the Tory party, in case you missed it.

Zonder · 05/01/2024 15:14

No you are too Labour I’m sure

But I doubt your posts have convinced anyone Starmer is better for women’s sex based rights

I’ve seen a few pro Labour try but they usually don’t do very well, Labour is too deep in gender ideology

MyopicBunny · 05/01/2024 15:18

🤷‍♂️ scroll past rather than quote a post from ages ago

It seems you can’t help but do this even though you are busting to talk about another topic

Go on then I’m not stopping you knock yourself out.

I know my post is the most interesting but read others

It is not as if people don't care about women's rights but to keep banging on about biological sex doesn't add much to this particular discussion when you consider that Conservatives couldn't care less about anyone's rights. Least of all women.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/01/2024 15:18

EasternStandard · 05/01/2024 14:30

Odd you do this often speaking of invested. Try not to get so involved

If a poster moans about a topic coming up why quote

Yes they can try and I can say jog on or similar and not answer

Moaning about it isn’t my issue, maybe don’t bother posting this stuff as you’re imagining stuff for little reason

I am not imagining anything. A few weeks ago you accused me of being overinvested in your posts and some other such nonsense. I responded at the time much the way I responded to you here.

Then I did search your posts and found that you had certainly noticed me and would bring up posts I'd made on different threads in Mnet, so could see the projection going on.

Following our exchange I hoped the matter was settled and that was that. But I see that you are doing it to other posters as well. If you do not like the functions of the site perhaps you need to make adjustments to your notifications. Or maybe Mnet isn't the site for you. In the meantime I repeat that your accusations and scolding of posters for using the functions of the site, is not on. Play the ball, not the player.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 05/01/2024 15:19

Women have been impacted by Tory policy much more than any man.

@Winnading oh I left my "how to fix a country book at home" so don't have an answer im afraid. But I take it you have an answer for how we fix the country leaving Tories in charge?

All I'm interested in right now is how to keep womens rights. For the cunty type women, not the penisy type women.

We have made some progress with the Tories. Not nearly enough progress. And no I'm by no means happy with that.

But I look at labour getting in (pretty sure they will) and I want to state for the record, women's rights will be decimated by a man who cannot stand up to the TRAs in his party, cannot give a simple answer to a question 10 minutes ago we all knew the answer to, is a craven coward, and/or an idiot. Whatever, he is not fit to run a country.
I TOLD YOU ALL SO.

cannot remember how to do bigly letters.

You are putting too much in to this and it’s weird.

I’m fine with posting here, if you’re not then don’t

MyopicBunny · 05/01/2024 15:24

So is it only well-off women whose rights we are supposed to be concerned about? And not the single mothers who statistics show were the most badly affected by all these years of Tory austerity?

Is this a case of some animals being more equal than others?
